IN THE EVENT OF MOON DISASTER | Backup Speech in Case Apollo 11 Failed
This was a speech prepared by author William Safire for president Nixon to give to the public in the event that the two men from the Apollo 11 mission were unable to launch from the lunar surface and left stranded on the moon.
Safire added:
"But if they couldn't [launch], and there was a good risk that they couldn't, then they would have to be abandoned on the moon, left to die there"
"Mission Control would then have to - to use their euphemism - 'close down communication,' and the men would have to either starve to death or commit suicide. And so we prepared for that with a speech that I wrote, and the President was ready to give that."

broooo saaammmmeee like literally the same i saw a comment mentioning a heartaches burning memory video then saw this clicked it and here we are
i think the scariest part of this is that, if this was to be what happened, this speech would've been given to the nation while the two were still very much alive on the moon.
This could have been so morbid if you think about it.

I wonder how the Soviets would have reacted if this ended up being what happened. From my understanding they were sympathetic about John F. Kennedy's assassination (at least to better convince America that they didn't orchestrate it). Would they have been as sympathetic, or would they have used it for propaganda purposes?
