Ahh , great place Erics, Remember seeing Joy Division on a Thursday night with about 20 people there.Superb gig. Still got my Erics membership card to this day

Spent many a happy hour, in one of Rogers ventures, the Magic Village, Cronford Court Manchester.

Privileged to have seen some great bands there, The Ruts, Killing Joke, Gen X, Crass, The Damned, Slaughter and the Dogs............the list goes on. Used to go even if the bands weren't that big or that well known. So pleased that i've still got pictures of the Erics march as well. As for trouble, anyone remember the matinees when the older lads would send over the younger ones to say, "eh lad give us your badges," if you said no then they'd come over and try to give you a slap or wait for you outside....that went on a lot.

Wow! I could get some stories from you Paul no doubt. I'm writing a novel about a kid growing up in Manchester in the 70's. Currently he's 14 and on a train with friends to Liverpool to go to Joy Division matinee at Eric's! Here: www.joydiv.org/c041178.htm

Fucking ace. In 76/77 I worked over the road at Antwackys (later Lpool school of Art,Wit and Pun), so I remember Roger from when Erics was being converted from The Revolution (which is what it became after The (new) Cavern. Remembner those hideous reliefs on the wall of the Beatles ? I used to go down to the lunchtime sessions and became an Erics regular over the next 3/4 years. Remember most (!) of the gigs mentioned and of course it getting busted. Brilliant days. Roll yer keks up those bogs.

i went a few times in the late 70s x ray spex ,the lurkers elvis costello etc ,the heat was terrific ,must of had 15 pints the beer,it was either watered down or it was through sweating but id come out at 2am soaking wet and stone cold sober ,brilliant eric,s was

great memories....best of times .

Remember the food bar and the durruti column poster behind the bar...

I think there have been many different versions of this place, at various places, at various times. Maybe they all derive from a kind of Jungian archetype that manifests in the material realm, in slightly different, yet related forms. I'm thinking of Eric's in Liverpool, CBGB in New York, and the version local to me, "the Legendary" TJ's in Newport, Gwent. The spacetime co-ordinates may vary, but certain features seem consistent: a creative hub of DIY talent, a "scene" sub-culture ... and toilets like a swamp.

Is the guy with the beard at around 14.30 Larry. If so I once chinned him in Probe.
