Erin, you are such a good interviewer! Great questions! So interesting to hear the answers.
I found Jim several years back and loved the fact he didn’t use a lot of fertilizer, just leaves and wood chips which is how I’ve been gardening for over 25 years and that has improved our soil 10 fold. We’re in zone 5, Michigan and he has tons of great gardening advice even for us.
A very interesting video Erin and Jim, liked the point about movement. And so true that we can transcend our specific climate zones

An hour of gardening work is done, a tea break with Erin and Jim is a perfect respite before I head back outside!
Of all the brilliant and helpful takeaways from this video, for me, the one that resonated the most was the idea of incorporating movement in landscape design which led me to understand why I gravitate toward some gardens more than others. Thank you so much… really appreciate your knowledge and advice.
As a MasterGardener, (coastal NC..zone 8), I tell homeowners that lawn grass is the only plant that required 40 pruning per year.

hi Sara are you on youtube woukd love to subscribe
Erin, this was an amazingly interesting conversation . Thanks so much.
Curves!!!!That is what I have learned since watching these videos. It is easier to mow as well.
Well that was fun. One thing I will add more of after watching this..... Movement. Plants that sway in the breeze. I often wondered why I liked one section of my garden more than all the others is the movement. I need to focus on that in more areas. Movement makes the garden feel Alive. Thank you Erin. Thank you Jim.
Jim’s fantastic. Thanks for doing these videos together! I learn so much.
I am so happy to see two of my favorites gardeners in one video! Such a great conversation. Thank you both.
My sister lives in Wisconsin zone 5 and I live in Virginia zone 7b. She can't grow certain things like Crepe Myrtle like I can. I don't grow spruce trees like she does. But, we share a love for Hostas that we mail back and forth to each other. Thise are the plants I love best because they came from her
Two of my favorite people! So great to get the comparisons, I am in zone 8b and I have learned so much from both of you! Thank you both for sharing!
Erin again proving her value to the community with another great collab. Great questions/topics too. Thanks Erin and Jim!
I'm from Europe, I didn't know about Jim or his channel, tnx Erin for introducing one more great gardening channel to me, never too much of good gardening channel's 😊
She’s clearly a journalist 💁♀️ Great info, especially about applying broad principles across growing zones. And I love Jim’s takeaway…I wondered if he had any grasses. Anymore there are some beautiful ones out there that stay pretty tight and upright and some cute little guys too. I’ve been adding more myself and it does make a difference! Not just during the growing season but during winter as well.
I loved every second of this video! Thank you!
Love, love, love these two - so knowledgeable and interesting. My takeaway: movement in the garden is important and also... everything shouldn't be seen from the street - keep something a surprise. Love it. Oh, and the fact that it doesn't have to be over complicated.. Please get together again - next year?
I watch both of you and this was an excellent interview! So thankful for both of you! Love both of your gardens! Thanks for all the gardening wisdom!!
Great video! I love it when my favorite gardening KZreadrs do crossover videos. Jim is the man!
I love Jim he’s a credit to Garden Kingdom 💕
This was the best video - when two youtube garden channels can discuss their garden zones and associated plant options. The interview with Jim reminded me so much of Shelly Ryan and the Wisconsin Gardener - there is no better compliment than that, Erin.
Awesome seeing the two of you collaborating. You are both such amazing gardeners and are so inspirational.
Love to see my 2 Haden guru utubers together!!! I KNOW SPEAKING FROM PENSACOLA FL JIM IS SO LOVING YOUR COOL WEATHER ERIN!!! Thanks A BUNCH!! Judy
Two of my favorite gardeners! This was awesome!
Two of my favorite plant 🌱🌾🌻 people 💛🍀
You both are GREAT!! Erin, I found you through Jim!! You both are inspirational 💕🪴
I found Jim a year ago he's a wealth of knowledge. Great interview thanks for having him in your garden.
I love these two!! So glad they got together! Now we need to get Erin down here to visit Jim’s garden!!
Thanks Erin, loved your interview with Jim. I subscribe to you both.
Really enjoyed you showing off your garden on Jim’s channel. Having followed you for a while it was great to see how all the hard work, trials and tribulations have paid off. Your garden is magnificent Erin! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Great interview! Your questions about learning from other gardens and zones were great. While I love chat that gets into the (only!) proverbial weeds, mile-high stuff really gets me excited to jump into my own garden. Now off to find ways to incorporate more movement and rooms!
Two great gardeners in one shot!
Been watching you both for years...fun to see you together sharing your garden expertise!
I watch you both & love you both! Your channels changed my life. I’m now a smart, educated gardener. Thank you!
I’ve been following Jim since he moved to his current property. Great guest to have !
Very good questions Erin. It was lovely seeing you both in one space!
Two of my favorites together! 💜
Two of my favorites in one pkace! 😍
My 2 favorites in one place!
Great interview. Two of my favorite gardeners. Loved your points about similarities and differences between your two zones.
Two of my favorite KZread gardeners! So happy to see you all together! Fun conversation.
Great interview. Jim's comment about wanting plants to have a story really speaks to me. Thank you for this!
Oh wow what a great combination the two of you are so knowledgeable, I watch you both even though My zone is 6B, thank you for asking so many great questions.
Great conversation! Loved the visit and chats between you both. I always enjoy and learn so much!
And another fun video with two of my favorite gardeners. 🎉
Great video! Something I’d want from your garden, Erin, is those poppies! 💕
This was wonderful.
Enjoyed your conversation. I agree wholeheartedly with Jim that movement adds to any garden.
I love Jim's videos.
the wind in the background @4:42 had me cracking up lol.
Great video. Great advice. Thanks very much. 👍🌴🌻🌱
Two of my favorites. Love that you shared your time with us.
Just as excellent as I thought it would be... 👍
Excellent compare/ contrast of gardens!
So fun watching the two of you! Erin & Jim have wonderful gardens and knowledge. ❤
Great video with the two of you. BRAVO.
This makes me so happy! Two of my very favorites gardeners!!!
I love both of these videos-yours and Jim’s. I’m able to relate to you as gardeners because you are so down to earth and teach me so much. Keep these crossover garden visits coming!
This was really fun! I enjoy both your channels for the unique things you each bring to gardening, so it’s fun to see you compare notes with each other too. Thanks to you both!
How I love watching this Erin and Jim, am waiting for Laura and Aaron to be with Jim. I garden in Austria zone 7b

I agree. I am waiting for Jim to travel to Oregon and tour with Laura and Aaron at Garden Answer.
Wow, if this is a great Sunday morning treat. Two of my favourite people in the garden world that I follow on KZread. Loved hearing the interview and opinions on the different zones with plantings. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
My two favourite garden hosts. Fantastic.
What a treat to see Jim in your garden! You are both fantastic gardeners and this interview is wonderful! Love both your channels!
What a great interview! I've watched Jim for years and I love his garden and his travels. Great questions Erin!
Consorting with a companion in common! Lovely interview.
2 of my favorite gardeners! Erin, your yard is gorgeous!!!
Two of my favorite “garden gurus”❤️
I agree with earlier comments: you are a great interviewer with engaging questions, Erin. The visual representation of the design principle (use curves) in your garden was stunning. The beautiful curving lawn with perennial and bulb borders is absolutely gorgeous. I have lived in zone 7a, 9a and now 8b, and I have applied these ideas and principles in every garden. The hardest thing is when I can’t sustain plants that I fell in love with in zone 7 because of the heat index where I currently live! Love this channel and can’t wait to see you exceed 100k!
Erin your garden is absolutely gorgeous! Great interview. Love Jim and follow him as well.
Lovin this video, two great gardeners.
Great interview! 🙌🏻 I love his comment about how not everything should be visible from the street-I am trying to do that now. After thinking about garden walks I have been on, the most beautiful ones have unexpected areas. But, it is hard not to put your showiest plants front and center lol. ☺️
Great video & I really like these 2 gardeners. They are great teachers with wonderful gardens and are relatable. The work they show makes you believe it is achievable🌱👍
Great to see you both together! Such a pleasure!!
Good morning, Erin ☕️ What a perfect guest! Question 🙋🏼♀️ what is he going to take from your garden? 😂

I loved that question too. I think Jim's answer about movement was spot on. His garden isn't formal but it always seems a bit stiff. I didn't know it was so new. I'm Zone 10a and have learned so much watching your Channel even though we live in completely different climates.
so wonderful to see you guys in a video together! I follow you both. :) And I'm in Nova Scotia, so you can imagine the garden differences lol We're behind everyone.
Two of my favorites in one video! Such common sense advice. Really enjoyed watching!
Thank you for introducing us to Jim. I think when I saw what zone he lived in (I;m zone 5b) I thought not to watch, but as he said we can have a lot in common. I could definitely relate to two things he said...I love it when a plant has a story, whether given to you, or picked up at a garden tour. Also if you meet someone who gardens, your are instantly friends! Will definitely subscribe to his channel! Loved the poppy background in the video :)
Great video packed with so much information. Thank you Erin and Jim!
I'm so happy you guys did a video together, I follow both of you. I'm in zone 5 close around your area ❤️
So much fun! I could listen to you forever! The two of you, Yulia/Y Garden, Alexandra/The Middle-Sized Garden, Jason/Fraser Valley Rose Farm and The Horti-Culturalists are some of my favorite Garden channels here on YT. You're all so inspiring and the amount of knowledge you share are amazing! 💚 But seing some of you together makes me a bit childishly delighted to be honest ☺️🤩😅 Obviously there's so many more (Claus Dalby, Bunny Guinness, Garden Ninja, Linda Vater......) I'm still missing out of sooo many. So thanks to the both of you! 🌱
Great video! I have been following both channels for similar length of time. I have learned a lot! Both of you have beautiful landscapes, just in different ways.
I am glad I stumbled on your channel. I'm from NE Illinois less than 5 miles from Great America and Zone 5B is kind of hard for a novice gardener like me due to shortened season, extreme temps and mostly lack of knowledge/experience. I'm also very impatient so I feel that at least somebody from my neck of the woods is able to do it and be succesful gardening. Thank you.
LOVED this video!! Thank you!!
Great interview! Love seeing Jim being the on the other side of it. And a great observation about movement. I need to do more of it myself. I have some gaura and love seeing the bees bounce in them every morning.
I came across both you and Jim at about the same time. I'm on the WI/IL border, so I wasn't sure that Jim's channel would help me out, but it absolutely does! There is so much information he shares that applies no matter what zone you are gardening in.
Hey Erin! New subscriber here, I’m from Jim’s channel. I’m a new gardener and live in New Orleans, zone 9A. I’m so happy to be here! Sounds like you have a lot of knowledge and I look forward to picking up a few tips from you🌼🌸🌻
I love the “lawn with a purpose” comment!!! Unfortunately for many that answer is an HOA. WHY do they maintain that we have to have this??? These organizations need to rethink these requirements.

The more I garden the more glad I am that we avoided buying property that had an HOA.
Hi Erin - love your channel and have been learning from you for over a year since I found you. Delighted to see you talking to the excellent Jim Puttnam! Totally agree with what you said about people in different zones learning from each other. For example, I garden in zone 9 USDA, but actually I'm in Ireland so our climate is not typical zone 9. We have a much less hot climate. Temperate oceanic better describes our weather. Regardless of climactic difference, I have learned so much from your excellent channel and also from Jim's. There are many overlaps between us all and perhaps we can all teach each other about what might be possible in our zones. I find your explanations of things so very helpful as a relative novice myself. Please keep making your excellent and super enjoyable videos! Very best wishes from East Ireland 🌸
At about 5 minutes in, I glanced away momentarily and suddenly caught a flash of a large dark "bird" flapping his wings behind you. Talk about movement in the garden!
You have a nice touch with all your guests. In some respects, transcends the subject of gardening.
Would love a full garden tour soon!! 😁
Oh yes, been following Jim since he moved to his house & was just beginning to work on his landscape.
I use to watch Jim, I don't know why hes not on my subscriptions anymore.😭
Take late spring frosts into account when you decide what plants to include in your garden. If you get many late spring frosts, buy plants hardy to one zone colder than your own. Get at least some plants that bloom on new wood. Old wood tends to die back.
Saw you on Jim Putnam channel and inspired. Peace!
Great interview/ chat Erin! Yes I also watch Mr. Jim's channel as his conditions are similar to my Texas 8A area down to the clay soil.
Love watching both of you! Thank you
great video! so fun! nice to see him here!
Instant friends! YES JIM 💚💚💚 lol
