No response from that guy after that. As Yanis has said other times, Greece and other European countries where corruption and tax evasion exists, are just small fry, petty bourgeois tax dodgers, whilst rich industrial countries with their hugely profitable companies and banks are industrial-scale corruption and tax evasion and in the bigger picture, much more harmful. Sounds fine until he brings in renewables. Its fine for running lightbulbs but not heavy industry, without fossil fuels production of steel is not possible. Unless you bring in nuclear power Aust will be sliding into a backwater. Where its heading now, nuclear power is a not even on the horizon as it takes years to build plants. Relying on service industries renewables not the way to go for Aust when it has abundance of coal, and gas off the WA coast. Why is Russia’s response not justified when they had long declared their red line and the U.S. had financed the overthrow of a democratically elected Ukrainian government committed to NATO neutrality? The U.S. then began arming the newly installed Ukrainian government and even built military bases.

Great to see this message from Yanis has reached our shores, i think what Yanis spoke of today takes extremely great strength, courage and faith, in HUMANITY. Unfortunately our politicians here in australia lack all these qualities and that is why we never hear these ideas from our local representatives. A leader is someone who brings ideas to solve our problems, a agent is someone who brings no ideas, only a directives. I really liked his solutions to solving for hegemony of the large tech companies and their tax avoidance. We do need a digital bill of rights and a way to facilitate monetary transactions without a bank.

Very good talk by Yanis Varoufakis BUT how many of those Aussie journalists are objective and clear minded in putting Australia's interests 1st? Dont be surprised if many of them are on the direct or indirect payroll of the CIA or NED.

That's why you called them nut jobs because that's the information you're presented with. The establishment hate these people with a passion including this man. This man is also muzzled because doesn't say things he should. Why do they hate these people? Because they are not toeing the global establishment line and are going against their globalist agendas, some of the people I mentioned even look after their people. Scott is the very worst of the establishment and you can't see the difference. Educate yourself.

Have always respected and enjoyed Yanis' speeches for their intelligent and intellectual contents. Alas, for all his wisdom and political experiences though, his knowledge of China has proven to be somewhat deficient. As a Chinese born in Hong Kong who have spent fifteen years living in the Western world and currently residing in Hong Kong, I can honestly say that while China still has a lot of room to improve on both the social and political front, it is nothing like what Yanis (or his friends) has described it to be. I would suggest that Yanis (this applies to all foreigners too) spend more time visiting China and seeing China for himself instead of relying on third party recounts which could be distorted/subjective despite the best of intentions.

I have been following Mr Varoufakis since my attention was draw to Europe and Greece in 2010-11...At that time I too was curious to see if the political decision makers and business leaders would pay attention to what he & others were warning us all about (the fallout from a massive global financial crisis)...Sadly and the only ppl who paid attention & acted were the women & men in charge of the CCP...Amongst EUs so-called elites he was described in awful terms...

Same here. I remember the photo of him being isolated by the rest of the economic ministers of the Eurozone at one of those first crucial Troika meetings negotiating for Greece's urgent bailouts. He was starkly iconoclastic. Absolute stuff of legend.

Never expected to see this man at this forum. Hopefully he can connect with some Australians that aren't aware of alternative economic policy and conditions to those our neo-liberal overlords are desperately forcing upon us. Does Australia necessarily need to be a US vassal state? Do we need to build their subs for them that they can take once they're built. After we pay for them? Why is Blackrock buying our established residential property? Why are our roads, civil infrastructure and hospitals crap and underfunded?

He is an economist first and foremost, and his foray into politics was a brief one due to the crisis Greece was experiencing at the time. After that you could say that he has been a political activist in addition to being an academic.

At the moment Australia has a colonial administration not a government representation of its people. We need a change of the system, before any positive outcome can be achieved.

Thank you! I believe citizens in all nations want the same thing, peace, safety, food and civility. Yet the world is plunged into war, division, economic crisis by corrupt elites and behemothic cooperations out of self interest. Unfortunately I don't think Australia as an isolated nation can make it on her own. It would be better to broker up with like minded nations to stand a chance against such hegemonic forces..
