Paul Keating is 100% right on this issue. AUKUS is a terrible idea; we just become a vassal of the USA. The USA as a global force is dying, and Australia should not let its self be dragged down with it.

@X Crockery The way you cling to the belief that China intends to attack one of its most important trading partners for no reason, resulting in no actual gains but huge losses for all parties involved demonstrates an absolute lack of understanding about Chinese history and philosophy. The fundamental flaw behind the thinking of all China hawks is the same: they unconsciously superimpose Western imperialist history onto modern-day China. This basic misunderstanding is a result of fear and paranoia, as well as an arrogant and stubborn refusal to actually engage with our Chinese neighbours in good faith. Rather than acknowledge China's incredible progress, the hawks immediately think in terms of conquest and war. They betray their own desire to subjugate others, especially those of non-Anglo ethnicity. Basic psychology of projection.

Paul Keating is turning out to be the only sane person in Australian political circle. Every politician wants Australia to be US' 51st state. Australia is not really an independent country at the moment. The US is sinking, their banks are all collapsing. Australia's biggest economic partner is China. The reason why Australia is unaffected by 2008 recession and not experiencing what Europe and UK are experiencing right now, is because the money are flowing from China, Indonesia and India. Yet the Australian politicians can't see this; they rather partner with the UK in whose economy is worse than Russia. And US which had reached the debt ceilings. Unbelievable.
