In From Africa - Cracking HBS & Stanford GSB

Nathan is a senior strategy associate for Cellulant, a PayPal-like digital payments platform for businesses across Africa. He has also done stints as an auditor for Deloitte and as an analyst for the foremost investment bank in Nigeria. Now he wants an MBA to shift into strategy consulting with one of the big three global firms.
He has the stats to pass every admissions test, a 3.98 GPA from the University of Lagos in chemistry and a 337 GRE score. Nathan also has been in McKinsey & Co.’s management accelerator program and co-founded a furniture startup. He’s aiming for Harvard Business School, Duke, Stanford, UVA Darden, Columbia Business School, and Yale School of Management.
What are his odds of admission? Pretty good, based on an assessment by HBSGuru.com Founder Sandy Kreisberg. In this episode of Friday’s With Sandy, he also provides some valuable advice to swing the odds in Nathan’s favor. Read more: poetsandquants.com/2023/07/01...

He definitely has a chance of getting into Stanford GSB and HBS. This guy is a brainiac for sure. Super powerful stats plus great job experience. If he wants to do consulting then schools like Fuqua, Ross, Tuck, Yale, should allow him to do that plus they will a 100% throw money at him. Take the money, that’s what I always say. I think he should add Ross to his list. I think he might like it there. I also think he should really think about living in SF vs living in NYC. I think NYC better. If I were him this would be my list: HBS, Kellogg, Columbia, Yale, Fuqua, Ross, Darden.

HBSGURU here: in the US and some other EU countries being an auditor is not considered a "competitive" job right out of college, most top-10 B schools (USNEWS) prefer IB or consulting (esp. at Mck, Bain, BCG) as a gateway job to either 2nd job in PE or admissions to B school. This may be different for applicants from less represented countries, esp. applicants fr. Africa and maye S. America. Not sure about Japan/China, anyone?
