    For me, earbuds are all about use case. I prefer IEMs, but if I’m in my office and need to hear if someone knocks on my door, then earbuds. I have the Alpha 3 and like them, but only for office use.

    I'm an earbud/flathead person. I fell in love with them at first because of the wide soundstage and price to performance ratio. Now I still love them because of their timbre and the ease of doing DIY earbuds. Theres significant bass roll off but I just put a low shelf for that The lack of tips going inside my ears is also a bonus because in-ears sometimes cause me irritations. I have the Samson SR850 but I find the vocals too far and wide, I know I can use crossfeed but still headphones are not pocketable.

    Loads of different shells when it comes to buds plus different foams etc..kinda like IEM’s...nozzle size and length, shell size/shape and of course tips with their material, shape and bore options, you just need to figure out what works for you 👍

    Paired with the CS43131 DAC which is built into my phone, I stream via Qobuz and they actually have a decent low end. Whilst not IEMs or over ears, they actually sound fine even when on the tube or train. Highly recommended but will vary depending on DAC pairing - with an AKM 4377 DAC they have less bass and they sound less impressive with ESS Sabre budget DACs

    Earbuds should be coupled with adjustable over the ear hook like in ATH-EC700 or ATH-EM7, then it holds the buds steadily. The best headphone sound I have ever heard was from earbuds. The good examples will have big airy 3d soundstage, thick full musical sound without loosing any transparency or speed. Earbuds are like having full size open headphone sound for the most part without having the higher air pressure exerted to your ears by big diaphragm. With foams you can make it sound bassier too. Earbuds are kind of best of both worlds when done properly.

    What are the best models you've heard?

  • @jag0937eb

    @jag0937eb

    6 ай бұрын

    @@nonenothing4412 Sennheiser MX985, Yuin PK1, PK2, PK3 (for the price), moded Sennheiser mx760 (stock is dry and lacklustre if unamped), Sony MDR-E888, moded old Aiwa model from late 90ies (forgot the model no), had a tube on back of the driver, which when tinkered with to change the opening hole size affected the bass to good extent, few older Sony models from late 90ies (don't recall model numbers, MDR-E something with 16mm diaphragms). Never had the pleasure to hear Blox TM7 or any of their models though. Mind you all of these were clothed with more than stock foams, some with inserts of damping in between foam pads and driver faceplate, EQed and driven from more capable desktop amps etc. Stock earbuds are kind of half baked, pretty much any of them I save seen. One needs to pad it and possibly dampen to increase bass, sometimes spread the soundstage and for better fit as well. EQ and higher power amps are basically a must to get the proper sound out of earbuds. These are older earphones, reportedly new makers and models are better now.

    I use earbuds when I'm at work because I need to be able to hear everything that's going on, being a supervisor has it's plusses and minuses. Those are words. Whenever I'm alone or really trying to focus on something, I slap the IEM's in my ears or whatever headphones I have in my backpack that day. 6 months late but hey, I'm going to catch up. 🤪

    I was never able to make earbuds staying in my ears until recently I purchase a pair with mmcx connector, and I tried to use them with cables with ear hooks, it works very well and sounds amazing. BTW it's just a very affordable pair (LUN SHENG YE01).

    it's a good Earbud but the Ry4s plus are better and cheaper overall. The bass of the Ry4s plus reaches over ear headphones bass level.

    Earbuds are great when you're riding your bicycle around... It allows you to hear your music, while also being aware of your surroundings/noises - as in traffic that might be coming up behind you... It's also a good habit to cruise on roads that usually have little to no traffic... just saying.

    I prefer earbuds mostly because when I did use in-ears almost religiously, I got repeating ear infections, and on few of the visits to the doctor I even got (semi) lectured about how bad in-ears are for the ear itself etc and that headphones would probably be a better idea. Well, I do have some Bluetooth headphones, they are extremely comfortable and fold nicely enough that they fit in few of my pockets quite nicely, but I didn't pick them for their sound quality. Lately I have tried to get comfortable with earbuds again since all in-ears and earbuds have the obvious benefit of being even smaller than headphones, but the market for earbuds is pretty poor. When I originally switched from earbuds (Nokia days) to in-ears, I felt like a trailblazer since in-ears sounded so much better but were less than the quarter of the market. Now you can barely find any earbuds. I went with TRN EMX mostly because they have the detachable wires, and I'm actually quite fond of them already. They have surprisingly good treble without any EQ, but the low end is quite light obviously (not a bass head or anything, so I can overlook that). I noticed I can also use my older earbuds' detachable rubber covers on the EMX too, even if they don't quite "lock in place", and the rubber covers change the sound characteristics to be a bit more bass heavy at the cost of making the sound more constricted and not as clear (the covers aren't just rings around the rims of the bud, but they actually are shaped to funnel the sound in a way and weren't designed to be used with buds that have a completely open and round head for the sound). Completely fine if I'm outside the home doing stuff and not trying to get the best critical listening experience. Also more pleasant to wash the rubbers off ear sweat than the standard foam covers that came with the buds. Although I have lately also tried to start using some in-ears again, in strict moderation ofcourse. I got the Tin T2s but I surprisingly find them very sharp and treble heavy (and I very much like treble), not very easy on the ears, although they do provide super clean and accurate sound.
