I'm glad Omega is giving George Daniels his much deserved credit, but also hats off to Omega for putting this design into mass production. I love my Speedmaster Racing with the MC caliber 9900. It's never slowed down or sped up or stopped in the 6 months that I've owned it. I work around large magnetic fields also. This thing is a beast of a watch.

It was the golden age of mechanical engineering. As a mechanical engineer, I am astonish by an all this ingeniousity of the past. Nowadays the mechanical design as simpler and we use a lot of electronic to replace and remove a lot of mechanical complexity. His book George Daniels Watchmaking is a real horlogical bible. Not really interesting by the big advertissement, but the model are cool.

Fantastic video, and succint explanation of the Omega/Daniels industrial development of the revolution Co-Axial escapement. Love the iconic work of Dr George Daniels, and I have adored Omega for most of my life, especially through the lens of NASA/Space and 007! In late 2017 I purchased my very first Omega, the Constellation Globemaster Co-Axial Master Chronometer in blue dial and stainless steel case with matching bracelet, and a year after was gifted the official blue leather strap; the watch on leather strap is my most worn timepiece and favourite watch! It will remain a part of my personal collection for the rest of my life 😊

The Seamaster in that movie had a quartz movement too, like your 2264.50.00. Mine has the Co-Axial escapement and is reference number 212.30.41.20.01.003.

The Rolex Milgaus, which is touted as the brand choice for engineering, where resistance to magnetic fields can be most impactful, is rated to 1,000 gaus resistance. With Omega’s silicone hairspring technology almost all of their watches are rated at 15,000 gaus resistance.

Too little, too late. The new 9SA5 caliber is great, but it's still not as accurate (+5 / -3, vs Omega's 0 / +5), not as magnetic resistant (60 Gauss vs Omega's 15000) and not as affordable (GS starting around 10k vs Omega around 5k). Moreover, Omega's current gen Master Chronometers (i.e. 8900) are in production for 6 years already, so you can expect another evolution far sooner than GS, further extending their lead. Big love for both brands though!

@@jeffjenco8009 Your comparison makes sense if you compare the Spring Drive to a traditional mechanical, but the discussion here was about 2 traditional mechanical movements from 2 competing brands. As an owner of both Omega and GS, I have a soft spot for both, but you can't deny the facts, that Omega's 8* and 9* series movements outperform the GS' in many respects. What is so special about the new 9SA5? Antimagnetic? Yes, but barely. Co Axial escapement? Ok cool, but Omega is at it for 12 years already and have gone through several iterations. Full balance bridge, free sprung balance? Rolex and Omega are doing this for over a decade or two. Accuracy? Barely better than COSC. Oh it's well finished and has 36k BPH? Not enough to justify the price if you ask me and definitely not enough to stand up to Rolex or Omega.
