Personally I don't like how he's acting like absolutely NO blu ray or DVDs let you skip the ads/trailers,when for most of the DVDs and blu rays I've had,it either let's me skip the trailers, has no trailers at all,or has an option to let you go straight to the menu (IE Disney Fast Play and the early paramount dvds). Yeah sure some of them won't let you skip, but not ALL of them,I just wanted to point that out (also side note there are streaming services that play ads,and also ones that WON'T let you skip them,IE Hulu)

It is true that studios got lazy with Blu-ray. The menus are crappier, the disc art is often nonexistent and too many sleeve packaging with box sets. Compared to streaming though, physical media wins. I cancelled Netflix some time ago and won't be subscribing to any other streaming service. I want to be able to watch the content I want when I want without the need of the internet. The only thing needed is electricity.

I use streaming to watch movies for the first time, and IF I end up liking a movie, I always go look for a physical copy (Standard Blu-ray, Steelbook, or some collector's edition that's not out of print). Streaming is convinient in that way, but of course it's NOT a replacement for phsyical media.

A valid point he made is the lack of place memory on many Blu-ray disks. With DVD (most decent players) the player would remember where you left off watching last time - sometimes applying to several disks. With many Blu-ray the thing starts at the beginning (regardless of hardware) which is extra annoying if they have loads of trailers. I usually watch films in one sitting, so not a big issue there, but TV box sets usually do 4-6 episodes per disc. I recently watched GAME OF THRONES Blu-ray and had to resort to scribbling my progress on a post it note - welcome the the Blu-ray era!

Another reason Blu Ray is superior to streaming is because you’re getting uncompressed video. I noticed while watching Zootopia on Netflix a few years ago that the image is slightly compressed because it has to stream all this information via the internet. Meanwhile when I watch the film on Blu Ray the picture quality is very crisp. This is a big draw back to streaming that I really hate and is a big reason why I prefer physical media.

Well it might never be an issue also. BRDs still suck and I also wish HD-DVD had won, it would inevitably have dwindled in popularity as well because of streaming, but would still be a better product for the consumer and also for companies so they don't have to pay royalties to Sony.

I agree with what you're saying, but I'd like to argue in favor of DVDs and tell you the reason why I prefer them to Blu-rays. They're dirt cheap, for example, I just bought a lot of 200 DVDs for 50€, the majority of them special editions in pristine condition, they take less then 5gb per disc, so I can rip them all to my hard drive and watch the movie without even touching them with the advantage that I can skip all the bullshit without being force to see it once they're ripped, I can watch them on old hardware, like Windows 98 computers or old Xbox\PS2 with no problems, and they look gorgeous on my 32" CRT. And that's it! ;) But as I said before that's why I prefer them to Blu-rays, since I really don't care that much about the resolution, just a personal point of view, it depends on what you give priority to depending on the media format.

How does James not realize that people print fully custom-made artwork? Just take out the discs, grab a whole bunch of replacement Blu-Ray cases, find some covers online, and print them.
