In Cylinder Pressure Transducer Testing- Mercedes Misfire Diag

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I show how using pressure transducer testing helped in accurately identifying the root cause of this 2013 Mercedes GL450 misfire, and the different techniques that can be used and how to use them on the scope.

It’s amazing what one can learn from viewing different approaches to a problem, trust me I’ll will be watching more of your work. The time you took not just to explain to yourself but allowed us viewers to see some of the best analyses that I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you for sharing this awesome diagnosis

I truly appreciate that; this one is one of my proudest put together analysis on incylinder. It was a turning point diag for me because to finally after so many days and hours of sitting in front of a computer trying to make sense of all the captures and to finally see what was happening was truly eye opening for me and I felt I learned the hardest way possible but fed me so much great information to tackle any other crazy incylinder capture to diagnose. When people ask questions about incylinder testing, this one always comes up in my head that I wish more people could see. But maybe slowly it will reach the right minds and help others out there curious on this testing. I am glad to hear you found it and actually got something good out of it. Thank you for watching and share with like-minded individuals.

Hi, I’m no expert here, so correct me if I’m wrong. But when you have a misfire, doesn’t matter if it’s lack of spark, fuel or compression, you will always get an anomaly (engine running) in the exhaust pattern. If you look at around 11:45 in the video, you see two downward spikes in between firing lines. It depends on which sensor you are using, some spike up on a misfire and some spike down. Also they seem to be “timed” to the missing cylinders. Thanks for the video. I found the math channel very interesting, I’ll look further into that.

You mentioned a time when the intake valve was opening within the intake stroke region. Remember that valve overlap typically happens in this order, the intake valve starts to open before 360* and the exhaust valve closes after 360*, one purpose of valve overlap is to create suction from the escaping exhaust from the early opening intake, this is called scavenge and it starts the air to swirl within the cylinder to assist with air fuel mixture. Your tool creates a waveform signature, other tools create their own distinct signature, some are better than others at showing valve overlap problems. When the intake valve opens on the end of the exhaust stroke and based on poor timing, some tools will show this excessive pressure going back into the intake manifold if the intake valve is advanced or other problems creating the valve to open early. Some signatures are so clean and nice that you can even see a simple valve adjustment issue of only thousandths of an inch adjustment. Yes I am aware of different manufacturers having different cam lobe profiles and different overlap degrees but mostly the intake valve is already opening prior to 360*, thank you very much for indepth video analysis like this one, cheers.

Thanks for the detailed input, and small tip just off of captures I have seen.... a lot of euro's with their phasing and variable lift (valvetronic, etc..) they open the intake valve way late after the 360, I've gotten used to now of not going by the "old" rules of thumbs because of seeing so many "unconventional" timing at different ranges but it's because they can control the valves so finite that I just take each engine as it's own breathing strategy specs

Great explanation, Them intake waveforms definitely get crazy when there's a valve leak then even worse the more cylinders are involved. Have you tried the piston overlay program?

one more Q. i am using piezoelectric crystal plate pressure sensor, during intake / exhaust you will see peak and valley. does that peak means vaccum and valley means pressure both for intake and exhaust

Hi, I subscribed your channel.. Appreciate iif you can answer my questions. 1. I know how to do the compression test using pico, 2. know how to do cylinder inpressure test 2. know how to use pressure pulse test, intake and exhaust .. Question 1. I dont know whenn to use for what for below scenarios. 1. Mis fire cylinder. yes i can use PICO compression test and with synch on, i can find out which cylinder is misfringg.. if i can findout which cylinder is misfiring, what value it will add to do cylinder presssure test ?? please advise. 2.leaky head gastket: I beleve we can find out leaky head gasket using pressure pulse tester. apart from that, what value it add for finding misfire cylinder ??.. 3. stuck intake / exhaust valves. i can use pressure pulse tester to check this .. do you agree, if so what is the use of in pressure cylinder tester and when would i use it... i dont see a reason when this in pressure cylinder tester will come to save me.??
