In conversation with Jeremy Corbyn | documented by Ken Loach

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Ken Loach is one of the greatest directors of our time. I was thrilled that he asked to follow our campaign for two days this summer.
He documented people sharing their personal stories and discussing their reasons for supporting our agenda. These stories show why Labour must transform and rebuild Britain so that no one and no community is left behind.

One day power will mean humanity and morals, rather than status and money. When Jeremy becomes PM thanks to people wanting more humanity in the country they live in 365 days a year, then we will understand the important of kindness and being truly happy, and self-expression/art, and how it brings abundance in all things, including money and status for everyone. I'll be honest, as an English person, I get on with a lot more Europeans than English people because generally I find English people more selfish (self-preserving), and when I meet Europeans most often they seem to bring a lot of heart with them culturally speaking, as in they are generally more human, open-hearted, and kind. I approach English people with caution generally, but when someone IS kind-hearted, I just 'know it', but there are lots of people I regard with caution and that's just my own issues I guess! I'm sure only a minority if any at all of the followers of Jeremy are selfish or self-preserving, they are more likely to be 'passionate', and you can see how that is aggressively spun as something negative? The Tories are the self-preserving party, they are in power because this type of thinking believed in that. I just hope the growth of the awareness of being loving and caring, and wanting to live in a country of community and socialism, can outweigh this mentality of self-preservation.Observe social media, across countries - Britain has a culture of trolls, and many other countries do not. It's a cultural thing which allows and creates this behaviour of disrespect. These people are often out of love for their fellow Britain's. How can Job Centre advisors have a target for sanctioning people? What sort of government or society thinks about people in that way, or works with this logic? It should not exist. Nothing in government should be to do with 'constant' targets. Another example is the Police, they have targets for crime detection. This means if they detect less crimes which may be because things are improving, they are out of a job! Do they really have no passion for what they do that you have to give them targets? Or is this just to cover those who don't, with an 'absolute constant' no matter how you get it and whether you employed the wrong people? And I also believe the Social Services work in this way too, do you think they have a target for number of children taken off families? I bet you they do. How destructive is this logic? Do you ever find when you speak to Civil Servants, if they were a company you would be giving them a really poor customer satisfaction score? All this, needs to change. I rarely get the attitude, I love helping people, how can I help, let me go the-extra-mile to help you when it comes to a phone service. But we all remember the good people who in their job are good no matter what. Have you noticed that or do I just have bad coincidences? The Government is not a Company that you look up to as an authority, and accept your powerlessness to change anything they don't want to change. The Government is a Governing Force which makes lives better for everyone, and listens to them. It's should be the good parent, not the bad controlling parent, or the superior authoritarian.

Beautifully said, thank you. It unnerves me deeply to see what kind of a country this has become. If we can't turn it around soon then I fear that we'll be lost for a very long time. The scapegoating of the weak and the poor to protect the interests of the tiny elite always produces an unhealthy society. Neoliberalism has to go.

Maybe they should make it illegal for MPs and newspapers to knowingly lie. The extent of lying for and on purpose in the UK, is nothing compared to America, which makes a business out of it. Look at Hillary Clinton. If she was the average person she would have faced criminal charges by now, but because of her 'status' which is usually held up with 'lies', she gets away with whatever she wants and she knows it. She knowingly lies when being challenged. The problem with this though, is that it turns people into pathological liars, as in, they make a routine of unknowingly lying, and because they have so much authentic belief in what they are saying, people go with it, because it appears authentic. Take Theresa May and David Cameron for example. Cameron was a master of knowingly lying. I don't know if you have observed but May almost speaks identically to him, as if when she gets home she watches his most successful lying or diverting. 'Say it like you believe it, and people will believe you' I think their speech coach tells them. I would class diversion also as a form of lying, because you are not telling the truth. You should tell the truth because in that position you are 'absolutely accountable'. Whenever Jeremy's turn comes up for questions at PMQ all you hear is the Tory backbench jeering. How absolutely vile is that? And there are people at home who probably laugh with them. It's vile and we must stamp it out. What I observed in PMQ when Jeremy had a little more power against this, was when he 'unmasked the evil' and pointed out these attitudes and how PMQ is like a theatre, when really PMQ is for the people. I do miss the stern teacher who points out the bad pupils, maybe he should say their name. 'Mockers' hide among groups and don't like their name to be revealed directly. With the direct naming of the individuals being recorded on KZread, they would soon quieten down. That's psychology for you. :-)

Perhaps I'm remembering wrongly, but I'm sure the Labour Party and the Tories used to properly monitor media coverage, and it seems strange that this is not happening now. All we get is the Tory press claiming the 'BBC is left-wing' just so the BBC can say 'if both sides are complaining we must be doing our job well'...But I'm with you; when you understand the methods used, the political coverage in this country is nothing short of Tory propaganda.

Compare and contrast this film with the two 'hatchet job' documentaries put out recently by Channel 4 Dispatches and BBC Panorama - no clever editing, no suggestive music, no 'analysis' from 'impartial experts' who are anything but. Just real people relaying their personal struggles to a politician who reflects their hopes and aspirations. The beauty of Loach's style is that he does so much but doing so little. This honest, unvarnished portrayal of people's day-to-day struggles is immeasurably more powerful than anything the hundreds of thousands of pounds poured into the Smith campaign's PR fund could ever hope to produce. Well done, Ken.

I agree but the only problem with the internet is that a hell of a lot of older voters get their info from the TV still. Once the baby boomers have gone and the current generation have grown broadcast TV is dead, thank god. I think that what we are seeing here now is all part of that transition. Its a slow inevitable change and the establishment is fighting it tooth and nail at the moment, but they are losing IMO. They will keep fighting to control the internet.

All fair points, totally agree with you. I just hope that the current state of affairs will open the eyes of the next generation. As it is is all good that the current voters can elect for a change in the establishment. But it is the next generation that can make the bigger change and impact. Well that's me hoping for a brighter future for all.

Plenty of typical comments below saying that 'socialism doesn't work' with not a thought given to the social systems employed by neoliberal societies to ensure the wealthy get even wealthier and the poorer pay for everything through the nose. The bail out of the 2008 crash is a fine example, worked perfectly well for the beneficiaries but not so much for the sods who had to cough up a few grand each. The war machines belonging to the G8 doing the bidding of corporations is another perfect example of socialism that works, albeit a sick, twisted perversion of it where the masses pay for the service but gain nothing from it. Socialism in the hands of the 1% doesn't work, which is why we need to wrest it back from them

Every single societal problem is indeed rooted within the monetary construct. We are the ones who created it, we are the ones who put value onto it but yet we can not change it, or at least that is what we are told. I know it's small steps at a time but surely we could discuss the real negative impact the monetary construct has upon our society and what we could realistically do to change this. Nothing will really change all the while we put so much value into the monetary construct and whilst that construct is so weighted in the favour of so few.

Who wants him pal? His lame response to his loyal supporter Ken Loach's expulsion. Ken, who directed this very video, just because Corbyn wants the whip off Starmer back.

@@FRAZZLAAR96 l get no pleasure criticising Jeremy Corbyn. I agreed with his manifesto and disagree with the sabotage of his own party against him and the media, etc. But he's not been vocal enough on Ken Loach's explosion. Ken promoted Scotland with four films, all shown at Cannes and three winning prizes. We all know the support Ken gave Jeremy. I'm disappointed it's not being reciprocated. I'm just glad we've the SNP and ALBA alternatives. Like Ken, I'm no longer with Labour. It's not Labour anymore with Starmer and his Centralist scheming. It's Tory party 2.

Great guy can win the GE if he changes his stance on unilateral disarmament perhaps he can be cnd but the party position is multi lateral disarmament. He can appoint a defence secretary where the plp decide who to be in charge of the codes. Important as Labour members and the country are not in favour of CND. Learn the lesson of the 80's CND cannot win.

+Brain Doner People seem confused by this comment, and along the way attribute to me a discussion of "the workers" or "poor people". Not sure where you get that impression, but the phrase I used was "normal men". Maybe its just not possible for you to believe I intended to use that phrase? Care to explain? Again, you accuse my comment of being "ridiculous", but the people being interviewed are the Politically correct victim classes (women, disabled, muslims, refugees, poor....). Sorry to point it out.

Unfortunately in May of 2020 reality arrives and he has to try and appeal to the mainstream and he hasn't got a hope. Even his own MPs can't stand him. Also he is to old. Do you remember the electoral spanking the Libdems received in 2015, that's nothing compared with thrashing that Labour is in line for.
