    Great interview. As someone who's also seen all the JCB material/interviews online, I appreciate that Wei did his HW - that contributed new insights from JCB as opposed to just mostly a rehash.

    JCB is a true legend in his horological accomplishments. What he may not realize, is when he speaks, he is a horological poet. I love listening to him, and the passion with which he discusses all things horology.

    Very good video, yes they put all the complications into one watch but is the most expensive watch in 1980. Now it would be even more impressive is if a watch with all those complications would be a low price. That's why each complication is separated by models.

    Not just an Industry Titan but a Titan of the salesmans trade. I know I’ve been more successful in my own sales by using his simple rules of passion and marketing. Such a great guy. And I believe him not being motivated by money. I saw a Swiss show following him from when he was with Hublot, he drove a horrible Chrysler minivan. Not a Bentley, not a Mercedes, not even an Audi. A horrible Chrysler minivan. The man is the real deal.

    IMO..this guy had a negative impact on Zenith. At least Dufour and Nataf did not try to place zenith below hublot. Zenith has so much more history and prestige than hublot. I am VERY happy with what he did to Blancpain...just not happy with what he did with Zenith.

    I think he means the positioning of Zenith in the "watch hierarchy" generally... Though JCB did revive it, the level it ended up at seems like it underachieved a bit ... That said, I'm actually glad because it means Zenith is more accessible and representative of incredible value now 😄

  • @Rimrock300

    @Rimrock300

    Zenith was in a slow 'death spiral', lack of innovation, lack of a clearly defined 'slogan' / direction, sales halting. Now they can't meet the demand, and they have a clear slogan, 'future of tradition!' In business it is not a negative thing with growing sales numbers, actually getting the head above water. You can choose to see this as negative if you like, it's a free world. Zenith has more history and prestige, they are a old traditional brand vs the 'funky' newcomer Hublot. Biver Place Hublot above Zenith when it comes specifically to pricepoint, but thats little to do with history/prestige , got to do with materials used and so on and so on, the brands also operates in 2 different categories. Rolls Royce is probably the most prestige car out there with the long history of the brand, but a Formula 1 car is more expencive to build and purchase, out of technical reasons, while not bringing Rolls Royce 'down' in in prestige..It will still be more prestige to come to the Country Club in Rolls than a Formula 1 car I bet:)

  • @kingflum

    @kingflum

    5 жыл бұрын

    Rimrock300 agree. I suppose I should clarify I meant "watch price hierarchy". I personally still prefer Zenith and that's because of the heritage... And hence I said I'm glad, as it seems better value as it stands 😄
