Interesting about drones as slaves. Also, up until very recently I thought the Stormtroopers were robots. I only began to feel sorry for them for being killed by the rebels when the brother played a role as a stormtrooper and I realized they were actual people. I still have some unpacking to do but that demonstrated from me how powerful narrative is. I read the narrative a certain way and that changes my understanding profoundly.

I had the honor of serving as the Herstorian for The Black Women’s Association for Black Unity (BWABU) of Rutgers University when we along with the 100 Black Men of RU and The Paul Robeson Cultural Center invited Mr. Gerima and Ms. Oyafunmike Ogunlano (Shola/Mona) to screen Sankofa for the whole New Brunswick community at Rutgers Student Center. It was a packed house including the children who were our mentees. That was in ‘94 or ‘95. Mr. Gerima had to physically carry the film copy he had and we had to rent a projector to play it. WOW! Times have truly changed. I am so grateful for Mr. Gerima’s work. I am prayerful that we may be able to set up a Zoom q&a with the Scholars of Sankofa Freedom Academy this school year.

I Remember thinking 30 years ago that Haile Gerima with his cogent insights must have been from the Carib or that conscious belt in the South American continent..Taught me a lesson about my own limited awareness of the diaspora. I always appreciated that he put Min. Akbar in the film to cement another unique connection to Black Americans.....

“The power of whiteness is in its invisibility” That also goes for immigration. While we argue about Hispanic/Latino immigration vs Black (and Asian) immigration very few are focused on white immigrants. I keep pointing out my shock at encountering high number of Russian immigrants in my area. White immigrants (including and especially UNDOCUMENTED) get to live low key undisturbed lives in America.

Hotep Dr. Karen and Dr. Carr. I just watched Sankofa, by the incredible Haile Gerima, and it was an excellent reminder, in part, of where I am in overstanding myself. I’m an average black man, meaning, I am an Afrikan warrior (take that with an Afrikan ear on our frequency 1 and not a Eurasian/colonized ear). Ever sense I can remember, I have had a quiet rage sitting right next to my Pineal gland that never lets me forget the atrocities that my incredible ancestors endured to even make my birth possible, let alone become reality. That quiet rage sits there dormant but available to tap into when the time comes. It lets me know that I am sane because it exists in me. I believe that all Afrikans in our diaspora have it and some of us don’t even realize it. It’s not the remanence of PTSS (Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome) it’s more of an internal process of Afrikan reciprocity. It lets us know that Afrikan reciprocity is coming, and that nothing can stop it. I may not see the fruition of said reciprocity in my lifetime, but I know that it is inevitable. It is what it is. Thank you for yet another brilliant podcast and I take comfort in knowing that there will be more to come. Ase’
