When I purely by chanced first saw this - 3 years after its release - I simply couldn't understand WHY I hadn't heard of it before. Certainly one of the most under-appreciated films of all time.

This was a perfect movie. Great actors, gorgeous cinematography, catchy score, and a screenplay with absolutely no fat. The "Cause and Effect" were executed to perfection regarding Harry's choice of purchasing "dum-dums" (the bullets that make the head explode) with his principle of killing himself if he would ever accidentally kill a kid. Down to how pivotal even the innocuous-seeming scene of Ken having to break a note as he was unable to get rid of his coins. This movie will makes you laugh, cry, cringe, and think. In my opinion, this should be mandatory viewing to all up-and-coming filmmakers. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes are sublime in this film. A perfect movie.

Almost no one I've ever asked has seen this movie, but it's easily one of my all time favorites. Anytime my wife or I hear someone say "alcoves," we're like "You use zis verd? Alcoves?"

It’s funny I can’t remember the name of the movie but it took place in NYC 70’s & the apt. was so small the dad would tell the kid “go to your alcove” 😂

Besides "the alcoves" my favorite is "it's all windy stairs!" Comes up every time I see a spiral staircase.

In Bruges is a masterpiece. A perfect film, which for a first feature by Martin is astonishing. Ralph Fiennes deserved a supporting actor nod, as well as for cinematography and best picture. I highly recommend that you review Colin's work in the film Triage. He filmed this a couple years after In Bruges.

An absolutely superb film. I loved it to bits. One of my top 10.....

One of the few movies with an ending that genuinely terrified me - it really struck a chord. I was raised in a very religious environment and though I’ve done my best to get rid of the dogma and trauma, certain fears remain from childhood, and this one quietly touched that nerve to the point where I’ve never been able to rewatch it.

Such an entertaining black comedy movie, definitely one of Martin McDonagh's best! 💕

I remember seeing this for the first time, when myself and some friends snuck into random theatre. We didn’t know what was on, the movie was only about five minutes in when we went in and we were blown away by the quality of it! Seriously a brilliant movie, also I grew up in the same part of Dublin as Colin Farrell so I just enjoyed seeing a local starring in a movie!

I revisited this earlier this year and I loved it even more than I did when it came out. If you enjoyed the two leads together here, definitely check out the Banshees of Inisherin, as well.

Oh, I love this movie. I love the cast. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Plus, Martin McDonagh is responsible for my *current* favorite movie ever, The Banshees of Inesherin.

In my humble opinion No Country for Old Men, Collateral, In Bruges, There will be blood and Lord of the Rings are the best movies of the 2000s. In Bruges is the perfect mix of dark comedy, drama and a bit of action. Love it.

Man on Fire and The Dark Knight... can't miss them off!

There’s an interesting parallel (with the casual small talk between hitmen) with Pulp Fiction, but for my money - McDonagh’s script here is absolutely unbeaten.

I remembered the trailer but didn’t get to see it until years later. Absolutely love this film. So much I’ve gone to visit Bruges three times 😅

I’ve always loved Colin Farrell from his days on Ballykissangel. Love when he acts with his own accent. Saw this as soon as it came out. Hilarious parts 😂 best scenes with Gleason & Finnes. 😊

This has been one of my favorite movies ever since I saw it a couple years ago, in my opinion it's about as perfect as a film can be.

I've rewatched it this year after it was released in 4K. Absolute gold! Love that dark humor filled with excelent European actors.

Let's not forget Carter Burwell's score! My favorite modern composer!

I saw the trailer and thought it looked crap. It was actually my mother who wanted to go, I just went along. It’s firmly in my top 20 movies of all time. I think it’s utterly perfect

Loved the movie when it came out but I was a bit younger. Watched again 5 years ago and enjoyed it even more. Great movie. Needed better marketing as you said. It’s hard to put a label on a movie like this and those are often some of the best. Original and not a regurgitated sequel or series…

One of my favorite movies of all time

I remember in Ireland they even advertised it with a fast paced Guy Ritchie style trailer, it looked shite. I went to see it in the cinema because there was nothing else on. Was blown away. Top 20 of my all time favourites.

you know...I do love the JoBlo channel, but I hate the kind of hyperbole they often use, like "best film of the century" and such. But shockingly, here I agree. Way to go, Chris--this is a GREAT film

Can you do a video about Bunraku? Imo it's another unsung gem from over a decade ago and I hardly ever meet someone who knows of it or has seen it despite its star-studded cast and unique style.

This and Seven Psychopaths are absolutely amazing and Honestly All of Martin McDonagh's films.

The reason that so many people have never heard of this movie is that it was released in the local art theater, not picked up by the big cinema chains. You really have to keep your eyes open to keep on top of these movies. Unfortunately, it's going to get worse as more theaters close and people turn to streaming services to watch new release movies.

In Bruges is one of my favourite films, period. Inspired by Harold Pinter's "The Dumb Waiter, a great one act play.

Not once is Christmas said in the movie. It's not a Christmas movie . But it is a great movie.

Its a very good film, very funny. Ralph Fiennes is amazing. You should cover Miami Vice in one of these flashbacks. Its also a very underrated film.

Wasn't a big awards show watcher but caught the screenwriting Oscar nominations. I took a chance and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.

In Bruges was probably my favorite movie of 2008 and that's saying something. I might have to give the nod to Tropic Thunder, but they are so different. How about this: In Bruges was my favorite movie of 2008 but Tropic Thunder is more re-watchable.

I bought Banshees based solely on this film.

I bought this a few years ago for five dollars at a gas station. Easiest and best five dollars I have ever spent.

I know spoilers come with the territory, but did you REALLY need to use that final (literally) shot?

Interesting skipping over Fiennes in The English Patient, seeing as that helped propel his career in a massive way.

Despite the movie saying that Bruges was a shithole, this movie made me want to visit Bruges.

Fantastic movie, I tell everyone I can about it. The marketing killed it dead, it was sold as a Lock, Stock/Snatch kind of film, and it's nothing of the sort. It stands alone among crime dramas. And it's got my stunt double Brendan Gleeson in it too!

All the main actors were involved in Harry Potter movies at some point.

All I've seen is Seven Psychopaths and it taught ne to avoid that filmmaker in the future. What a douchey, masturbatory load of horsesh*t that movie was.

The best part was the end credits. No idea why this got so hyped.

He literally just made the case for why Diehard is in FACT not a Xmas movie. Thank you. It is not.

I could not watch that movie for more than a few minutes it was very very badly done and Colin Farrell cannot act his way out of a wet paper bag. I don't know how he even made it in the acting world
