Improvised DOG Harness

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to tie a Spanish bowline knot into an improvised dog harness. You could tie this with a separate leash, but here is the single rope version. You can find red paramax at my shop, AwesomeForSale.com.

Outstanding! If you rig it like you first did, you would have a corrective training harness for a pulling dog that would work in a very similar fashion to a Sporn harness.

Looks like a great consideration of dog's anatomy unlike many existing products! The only thing I don't like using a regular rope is how rope is pretty thin and might dig into the skin. Perhaps there's some flatter and wider rope that has soft edges and can still be tied in this fashion?

you could use twice the amount and simply double it over.

Well done. You have a good obedient dog. I like the Spanish bowline. If you make the loops long enough to get together at the top, then you could tie it off right there.

Outstanding! I already have a harness I've bought several years ago but, I'll be so proud to walk my doggy with one I made ( and that is secure), that I'll try to do it myself this week. Thank You so much FCA! Greetings from France ^_^🐕‍🦺

If you leave the leads separate can you use them for directional controls if riding a skateboard powered by the dog?

Do you have a way you would tie a harness for carrying a dog? Like if they get hurt out hiking and you need to carry them out. I’m thinking carrying them on the back like a back pack.

There's a very nice commerical product called a HelpEmUp harness that is excellent for mobility challenged dogs and helping them get around. The key features are where the pressure is put (on the bony ribcage and pelvis, not squishy stomach or leg creases) and that the dog can toilet with it on. The commercial version is excellent but sometimes your dog might unexpectedly need assistance, and I wonder if you could figure out how to tie one (maybe it would have to be two pieces, like the HelpEmUp) so people could use it if they can't get a real one ? ❤️

THANK YOU FCA for all your amazing knot tying videos. I have learned so much from this channel! If you have an opportunity, would you be able to give me some advice on creating a paracord slingshot pouch? It would be more of a short flat braid, like an extremely short bracelet, with two neat little eyes for tying the latex bands. Maybe with coreless paracord and ironed to make it quite flat... I can't quite figure out how to make a perfectly symmetrical one though...any advice appreciated!!!

It'd be good to get the harness part complete, then make a quick release or two, one to attach at the back, and one for a "leash" to attach. That way you could let him off the leash to run. Would it be ok to leave the harness part on full-time?

Full time? Like 24/7 having a harness on the dog? I don’t think it would cause any serious problems for a full grown dog but it would for sure be uncomfortable for them to have to rest on a rope and large knot on there chest. I’d definitely take it off my dog when not needed myself and recommend that. This would be a last case scenario a proper padded nylon harness should be what you use for your doggo if they were running and got caught up are snagged this rope would be a lot harsher on the dog than a proper padded harness.

Could this be adapted for a bird? Many bird “harnesses” have a poop diaper and are heavy. Birds, particularly smaller ones, don’t like the additional weight, even if they aren’t flighted. My cockatiels hated their “Flight Suits”

  • @hdsheena

Ok so now that I've tried this.. could you add a second knot somehow between the dogs front legs, so the pressure is off the armpits a bit more? Especially if the dog is a lot shorter than the point of holding the leash..

I was actually trying to figure that out, but it makes the harness much more complicated. I would probably use a second section of rope to “whip” the two loops together.
