In this video I am building and demonstrating an extra tool which you can use along with your existing stitching pony to help with hand stitching large or awkward items. I think this works well so feel free to give it a go if you think it will help you!

Hi everyone, here's a new video showing how to make an additional tool which you can use with your stitching pony to help when stitching awkward items. There will be another video coming at the weekend too, Ian.

Good to see you back Ian. I hope you are feeling better. Great vid as usual. :)
Brilliant! Sometimes the simple solutions are the best and you have proven it. I think what I admire most about you is your attention to details. Your insistence on having flush edges for example. In the scheme of things it makes no difference but in regards to the pride you have in your craftsmanship it’s everything. Someone buying something from you can be ABSOLUTELY certain that it was made with the very highest level of craftsmanship and expertise. Huge fan of yours.
I don't do leather work, probably never will get the chance, and yet for some reason I really enjoy watching all of your videos. Thanks!
Really pleased you are back, found one of your videos by accident ,now have a workshop and spend hours trying to make your items . Looking forward to your next tutorial. All the best Doug
EXACTLY what I needed to see! I'm about to attempt restoring what was my dad's "made-by-him" briefcase of some 50+/- years old. Most of the machine double stitching has dry-rotted, and I've JJ #2 needles and .8mm thread on order (I already have Tandy diamond chisels and leather dye). You "beat me to the punch" on coming up with a solution for steadying the briefcase while stitching. Thanks!
This is brilliant and solves one of my biggest gripes while stitching larger pieces in a nice simple fashion. Thanks for sharing!
great to see you back ian. hope your health is good.
Great idea, Ian! This is cheap and easy enough to make several different lengths so you can grab the right one depending on your project of the moment. Fantastic!!!
Great to see up and about and sounding healthy. Speaking for my self and I'm sure many around the world who are shall we say students even at 74 I've learned a lot between you Lee and Nigel it's been time will spent . Take care keep positive attitude as always
This is a great idea. I need to put this idea to work in my shop. Thanks for sharing!
Great idea Ian! Glad that you're back. Take care.
Brilliant 'home brew' solution Ian! Good to see you back brother. Cheers - Darrell🇨🇦
Thanks, Ian for the idea and how to make pony extention! I do some woodworking, so it was easy to make and I have the vertical pony already.
Thank you for sharing this idea. Helps a lot!
A neat proof of concept, which could also lead to modifications (as you suggested in a lower third comment), which could add more stability to your "extend-a-jaw". I have missed your teaching videos and by definition you. I wish you good health and a welcome back.
Thanks for another great video, Ian.
Brilliant. Definitely gonna build one as I struggled with the same problems. Lol, just noticed the Nuka Cola girl on the wall, awesome. Thanks for the share.
Welcome back my friend. Great video.
Great video glad to see you back
Great to see you back Ian! My new career was inspired by you. Best regards Mic - Brechfa Knives
Thank you! I am going to make one.
Clever. Necessity is the mother of all invention. I want to make a clamp that is mostly away from the edge of the bench. Only the contact points are close. A reverse scissors kind of deal. The mechanism for closing the clamp is a foot away from the work. Still working on it.
Excellent work Ian. Great instructional tutorials. I make whips and other plated items because I hate sewing also but I might have to get around it and try forming and stitching. BTW Great family name.
Certainly useful, thanks!
Muito bom, obrigado por compartilhar seus conhecimentos.
Thank you for sharing!
Awesome idea!!
thanks for showing will see if i can make one of them
Awesome idea!! I always struggled with the little 3 inch jaws of the stitching pony. This is the way they should make them from the factory. I mean who really only stiches something 3 inches wide. No one. Thanks for your video's , good to see you back.

just depends what you're making, they work fine as they are for lots of things but they don't suit every scenario which this aims to help with
Good Idea. Thanks Ian. I usually don't use my stitching pony.
Very clever thanks
I really like the idea. What about adding strong magnets along the arms that will hold the piece in place? That way, the clamps aren't in the way. Also, could extend the piece that sticks in the pony down and use some screws or bolts to help prevent whole thing from tipping over. Think I'm going to try that.
thumbs up! like the nuka cola poster too
Awsome video
Thought about just turning the bag around and stitch in reverse direction?
Ian, I appreciate your videos so much! I hope you're well and your health is good!I'm waiting for you to make a tutorial on a more advanced men's wallet and will buy that from your store.

Hi Monica, that will be coming up in the next few weeks
Hi Ian, I'm very new to leather working. Your pony is only 3 or so inches wide, would a 6 inch wide pony be too much? I notice a lot of folks using spring clamps as opposed to a bolt and wingnut option, can you give me your thoughts? I think the extension that you made makes perfect sense. So, thank um you for making these videos I really do get a lot out of them..
So simple, yet useful! Thanks for the idea. Do I see Nuka cola in the background ;-)?
What glue did you use to adhere the leather to the wood?
Hi Ian thanks for the idea, just a thought what if you cut out a grove in the wood to recess the hinge in it then I think the wood pieces would sit flush with one and another.

well you want a gap in there as that's where the leather goes, so it helps them to clamp along the length of the item
Hey Ian, great video! What kind of glue did you use to attach the leather to the wood?

just normal contact adhesive
Ian - could you please turn on the captioning for this? Even the auto-captioning is a huge help. Thanks.
👍from Russia.
Maybe you should patent the idea and produce it commercially
:-)
