How to Make a Stitching Pony
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is how I made a quick and easy stitching pony that can hold leather pieces while stitching or can act as a general purpose third hand to hold small projects so you can work on them with both your hands.

Several months ago I used your idea and made two stitching ponies from some leftover lumber. One of them had a fixed base and the other base swiveled. I used some light leather for the covering on the top of the clamp. I also used a bolt and put a spring between the uprights. For the tightening handle I used my hole saw and made a round handle about three inches in diameter. Both of the stitching ponies had some flaws in my craftsmanship, but they worked well. In fact they both worked so well that when I showed them to my brothers they wanted one. I gave them both away. I thought I wouldn't need one after all. Then I did a leather project and wished I had a stitching pony. I remembered your tutorial and how simple you made it look. I started on another stitching pony and while the glue dried I came and watched the video and found I had remembered most of what you had told me. Thank you for your ideas and help.
Love this video because it was simple to follow and all measurements were given we don’t always get this thank you 😊
Thanks for the video! Mine came out great. I measured the arms to the length of the floor to my knees so I can sit in a chair and have my feet on the boards to steady the whole thing. I also added some felt on the bottom so it didn't scratch up my floor.
I tried sewing leather project without a stitch pony but that didn't work out too well. Went looking to buy one but decided probably cost less to make one. I watched quite a few videos but they seemed to have too many pieces to cut. I came to your video and just what I was looking for an easy way to make one. I already have everything I need to make one except had no easy plans. Great video by the way. You've saved me money that I can use towards something I can build. Thank you very much.
Very nice explanation of how to build this simple stitching pony. Very useful for leather projects. Thank you.
You are kickass badass. Thanks for saving me a lot of money from buying these expensive product's. Thank you. Respect. B
Great, nice and simple. Just what I needed. Thanks
Hey pal, you made the most simplest pony stitching tool ever ! I saw many of projects on YT, but your is so easy to make that everyone also without skills... can surely do. If... just if... 😀 you agree, putting a spring with a couple of spacers, on to the bolt (inside the arms), will make easier the "jaws opening". Forgive my English please ☺
Very nicely done ! I’m 55 years old and about 12 years ago i suffered a Traumativ Brain Injury that caused some Paralysis in. My left hand and Arm prior to the injury i was a hands on guy with some of my Hobbies being Woodworking and Sewing ( mostly Marine Canvas and Vintage Automobile Interiors now in order to do most projects i use Clamps and jigs to help make up for the wounded hand and Arm AStitching Pony might just be in order for this guy ! I like your design and its Simplicity to build
Such a great, uncomplicated tutorial. I'm following for sure

Well done and easy to follow. (Yes, both the stitching pony and the video.) Thanks to you, I was able to procure a stitching pony for $10 instead of $80.
Hi there, just a quick note, I made this item today, I followed your presentation and instructions and everything went to plan, Looks and works well and like you I used old wood and other bits from the garage. Thanks again Sam
Very helpful thank you! I love your bloopers at the end LOL!!
NICE! Good to see a good build without the use of a small fortune of power tools. Resourceful indeed. If you got 'em , use them,,otherwise ,,use hand tools.. .
Great idea, Vinnie! Can't wait to see what you make!

I’m going to make a video on how to do this. I’ll give you credit for the design! Thanks for the idea!
Great Job! Very good instruction! I watch your video and made one for myself. Thank you!!!
Very nice like the way you explain this
Thanks for the vid. I've got this stitching pony and it works like a dream. I used a spring-loaded hinge (the type that closes doors automatically) to keep the pony closed before you tighten the nut. Thanks once again!!
Well done. Good, straightforward video.
Thank you. I do not the tools, but I will try it. Great Job!
So totally going to make that. Thanks for the video!

Great job man, thank you very much, keep the stuff comming!! :D
Making one for a family member, this helped a lot thanks.
Thanks. This will be a project I’ll do myself soon. You had me worried, until you put the screws in.
This is a well-made video !! Thank You. Easy to follow. Great directions. Keep Up The Great Job That You Are Doing. Looking Forward To More Of Your Videos.
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing
Great video! Thank you. Do you have a video of your leather project? Thanks. God Bless
Nice job. I just made a similar one in my shop. I'm curious, what 3D CAD program do you use for your 3D printing projects?
Than you very much! I made two of these but got the hinges too big so the screws would’ve went thru my board, so I put it together anyways and was gonna run get the right hinge but it actually worked fine without one. So I left em off! Lots lighter that way too
Excellent job!
Man, I need a 3D printer. That knob is amazing.

Depending on where you live, your local DIY store may have a 1/4" threaded knob that works just as well.
Nicely done.
Good job man!
Thanks for the tutorial... Very helpful...
Awesome Video, thanks!
Omg thankyou. I am into it tomorrow.
Thanks, I'll use that project soon!
Buenísimo saludos desde Barcelona Catalonia
That pine was perfect for the project, not cheap or crap at all, except for your actual cost. I see that the premade ponies for sale online are all made with deeper jaws. What would you stitch in one which needed the extra space below the jaws?
I'M TOTALLY MAKING ONE OF THESE.
Thanks 🙏 i subed!!!! Good job man
Cool !! Awesomeee 👍👍🙏❤️😎🎉. I will try to make it 🙏 Thanks for sharing 🙏🙏🙏😀
Very useful and well explained. Thank you for showing it. You have just saved me £65.00!!

Nice job man
Thank you for a tutorial with (mostly) apartment-friendly tools! I am, alas, going to have to sand mine entirely by hand because long orbital sander sessions bug my neighbors, but otherwise this should be a quick and useful make. :D
Nice work on reclaimed wood.
Thank you for a great entertaining, interesting and informative video Be safe Sam
Can u browse your arrows pls which u have used to cut the flywood pls
awesome , thanks. i was gonna order one.
Thanks for this. I Will be making it.
wow thats fantastic
nice job!
Just lovely
I love this Thank you
thanks very helpful.
Where did you get your mitre saw setup?
A good fit. I like. Only the clamping bolt should be replaced with an eccentric clamp (from the seat of the bicycle) - this will be much more convenient :) Mark Fisher, Ukraine.
Nice and simple.
Awesome 100% !!!
Gracias por compartir desde cali colombia
I gotta go shopping in dumpsters in your neighborhood! Who the heck throws out perfectly good and clean wood!!?
Serious question. What are some good dumpsters to find scrap wood?
great tutorial thanks👍🤝I’ll do such a thing for myself too
Love it
Why are the tops of the arms cut at 45 degree angles? I see the same thing in other videos and no one ever explains why
Thank you brother... Thanx
thanks briliant!
You made that look very simple and it looks quite functional. Where did you find that dumpster anyway? Thank you

Chicago has some good dumpsters.
Cool, thanks
How do you like it now it feels like it's too high for you on that table?
What is the saw he is using?
Have not figured out "sit on the base". Please demonstrate.
What kind of saw is this?
Lmfao the outro was perfect 😂
Thanks! You just saved me between £30 - £60.
Thanks so simple
What dumpsters are you finding walnut!? I want to go by there! Nice job.

Hmm. Nothing in a dumpster is worth going to Chitcago! Fortunately, I currently have access to scraps of walnut, cherry, cedar, and other random woods. Though, for what the walnut was used for, here, any wood would suffice. I've got tons of random wood in my garage; plus, I think I already have the hardware... I think that I'll build one, when I get home.
Really simple design. I need to make a stitching pony also. I have had an entire side of leather just sitting here, waiting on a project.

I do for sure. Oh, and if you're looking for a good price on some leather, check out maverickleather.com. They run specials on instagram and you can get some great deals. That's where I bought mine and I got over 22 sq ft of leather for under $80. They were great to deal with.

Chicago. You can find some good stuff in big city dumpsters if you keep your eyes open and get a little lucky.
Tipp: add a spring inbeween.
Where’d you get that hacksaw guide? What’s it called?
