Improving our Pastures. Raising the PH Levels

In this video, we are focusing on raising the PH levels in our pastures. After soil sample analysis, we realized that our PH levels were really low. (acidic.). So, we're applying 2 tons/acre of lime to raise the PH. It's an expensive investment that should pay a dividend over the next 6-18 months.

It's amazing what the soil is missing to get things moving again. Great Job there.

Yes it is. It’s weird that once you get the PH back to normal, it may be 10-15 years before having to do it again. This land has been over farmed/grazed for years. I’ve been part of the problem….. but not anymore.

Now you're talking, you will see a big difference over time. Most of the weeds will hopefully get choked out by quality grasses and hay. That pays for itself over and over if you keep the PH corrected. Every 2 years we dump up here if it needs it, and it usually does.

Managing/ caring for your land is a great investment in my opinion. I really need to spread manure in our pecan orchard to improve the soil quality but can't find the means to do it. Those manure spreaders aren't cheap.

No they are not. And good luck finding a used one that is worth anything. Merry Christmas!

An investment in infrastructure: is that another term for money going out? 😂The GPS sure makes it more efficient and saves waste and $$$ too but in the end, it should make a heck of an improvement. Take care Scott and hope you have a blessed rest of the weekend my friend.

Thanks Tony. After two years of drought, we are focusing on better grass/hay and fewer cattle. Yes, it appears to me that more goes out than comes in.
