IMPROVE BALANCE with this Simple Feldenkrais Exercise!

Coordination is not often considered as a component of balance. I believe this skill plays a big role in balance. Here's a simple Feldenkrais exercise to improve your balance.
What you need for this exercise: a chair and a blanket/beach towel
What you want to pay attention to during this exercise:
1) Breathing (should not be disrupted)
2) Unnecessary muscular tension (neck, shoulders, abs)
3) Even distribution of movement in your spine
Before you do this exercise, check your balance in standing in 3 different positions: 1) Regular stance with feet shoulder width apart; 2) Narrow base of support (feet together); 3) Tandem stance (one foot directly in front of the other foot)
After you finish this exercise, check your balance in those 3 positions again and notice any improvements.

This is an awesome underrated practice. I’m constantly seeking out balance improvement methods and have never seen this one before. This practice has helped me with tandem stand more than anything I’ve encountered yet. A most noticeable improvement in the after practice test.

Awesome to hear that! Thanks for sharing your experience here. Balance is often seen as the ability to hold our body still, but, the truth is that balance is a dynamic activity. Even standing "still" in one place involves constant movement. Movements are so small that we dont perceive them as moving. So, practicing to improve your coordination is a key to improving your balance as you will be able to adjust your bodies well to keep you balanced. Many exercises I have on my KZread channel focus on this concept, so please try other exercises as well if you havent already. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Better Balance with Taro Iwamoto I’ve been trying to figure out what my balance is so poor. I thought that I needed to strengthen my muscles to get improvement. Often times in balance videos they just tell you to try try try to hold the positions and with daily practice you’ll get better and be able to do them longer. Your video is was a lightbulb moment for me. I’ll get to the rest of your videos eventually. I know that everything feldenchrist leads to improved coordination to some degree.

I had the same expeience with tandem stance. I thought the issue was feet and ankles, but no! Its much higher up. This was an immediately noticeable difference!

Moving with joint through joint in order to have poise and fluidity through our movements. Do you have any resources to help me learn?I have noticed elderly people have a swaying stager in the walk Will this help and I there anything else that can help. Can you explain why & how this works?

one sitbone lowers towards the chair while the other one moves up away from the chair (pelvis is tilting sideway), and allowing the spine to counter-balance.

@@TaroIwamoto I realize that but I guess I couldn't see your hip dropping down. I will try this one. I tried the sciatica moves but it started acting up when sitting after I did them. Do you have any other moves\exercises? I literally can not stand for one full minute before it acts up and it is driving me crazy
