I just have one question, is there any way to reverse the install offline mods feature? I am thinking about times when I'd like to temporarily disable them (I am casting a game for example) or I am also thinking about possible incompatibilities when a patch comes out.

Good question! Steam is amazing because you can right click AoE2 DE>Properties> verify game integrity files. Give it 2 mins to restore your game state without any offline mode 👍 Thank you for the heads up though! I will put a warning in the next version to let people know about this.

Hi I installed it and followed the steps. But now I’m unable to play ranked games. It says the data file of the other person is different from what I have. How do I fix this?

At the offline mod installation you must have installed a data mod. a simple fix is to go to your steam library and right click AoE2 DE > properties > Local Files > verify the integrity of files. Sorry I didn't explain this in the video but next time avoid installing Data mods which are under category "Data" e.g. prnt.sc/11rdedu

Install .NET Framework 4.5 or higher. If still not working I highly recommend you to upgrade to Windows 10. Which is a lot faster and has the highest compatibility with AOE2 DE than its antecedents.

Is this safe to download? My Windows smartscreen keeps blocking this.

Yes 100% safe! You can always upload the exe file to www.virustotal.com/gui/ to see for yourself. Windows smart blocks any open source software that has no signature so just ignore the warning.

Thanks for reporting! Don't do the menu fix. Now go to your steam and verify files integrity then try again with the tool without enabling Menu tweak.

Hi, what if mods need to be upgraded? Also, how much does loading mods offline affects things? And if I combine everything in one mod, will that be helpful?

Excellent question! Mods affect the loading time of the game if many of them as directories are present in the mods directory. At startup AOE2 DE will start reading them all folder by folder and file by file and catching them in the memory or temp folder. (People with HDD drive the loading time of the game will take really long if many mods are installed. On SSD it will only take longer to start the game if you have like hundreds of mod files) Now is combining them in one online folder is helpful? It is helpful if you combine a lot of mods however they will all still be read and saved in the memory and temp folder. So basically more resources usage. The best way is to install them offline so the game will not have to process anything at the startup. If mods need to be upgraded which is the case with only UI or data mods then you can install it back then install it offline then remove the online folder. (DO NOT INSTALL DATA MODS! You will get an error when you play multiplayer and if that happens you'll have to go to your steam library right click aoe2 de > properties > Local files> verify integrity of files. This solution is great whenever something goes wrong with the game display or bugs) I hope I explained this well.

@@GregSteinAoE2 so I think I got you wrong. Do you put mods in mods/local instead of mods/subscribed, or you just change local game file? Now I think you are doing the latter. I personally has around 50 mods, around 30 for UIs. I’m thinking about combining them into one since there are a lots of overlapping. I think it would be nice if you can develop such a tool, because changing game file for me is sort of dangerous. Also, forgive my not reading everything. Do you have a manager for all logs and recs? I’m pretty sure they make the game start slower as well once you got some GBs of those things.

@@semi59o I do not put anything in mods/local because the game loads those too the same way it does with subscribed folder. the tool replaces the original files to avoid unnecessary loading as explained before and save memory resources. And Excelent idea! I will add a combine button in the mods manager just for you ❤️ And brother there is zero danger replacing smx, json and other static files. even if something goes wrong like what's the worst case scenario? installing a data mod which can be reverted by verifying the integrity of game files. Either way in next version I will implement a function to backup game files affected by offline mods in a highly compressed archive before proceeding with any procedure. About logs I did an analysis to what AoE2DE.exe does, it certainly does not read logs at startup but only writes new ones based on current date. However you touched a solid point! The logs should be cycled to save space. Actually it would be great if we could stop the game from writing logs at the first place as well as those annoying animated sparkles in the intro it would amazing.

@@GregSteinAoE2 Thx! It really answers my doubts! And I would keep an eye on the updates! For the changing local file one, I understand that nothing’s gonna be “wrong”. But DE being DE, there’s always a risk doing these things (maybe I’m not too familiar with verifying game file things). As for the log thing, I had some experience with it. My game start reduced by about 30 seconds once I moved logs and game recordings to a different folder. Maybe you can do a recording manger thing, so that records are backed up else where compressed. The manager can also have functions like downloading recs online and put it in the correct location, as well as helping decide which game version the rec is.

If you're referring to MS store they do not allow you to edit, rename game files so it's recommended to get steam version. You could attempt to take ownership of game files from ms store but then you'll break it.

Yes you can. Just install .NET 4.6.1 and the app should work. Also in the latest version you can specify your game install path manually in case it's not detected. It's been a long time since I updated the app so i highly recommend not to turn on "Disable Menu Effects" as that will block the ingame menu (if you did it by mistake it's fine just verify the game files integrity)

@@brandonayala125 That's why! install .net framework 4.6.1 then try again. But you are the owner of your laptop you should know that aoe2 de performs better in windows 10; you will get even more fps with the tool than win8 or 7. I recommend you to upgrade to windows 10. The latest version (github.com/gregstein/SenseiDE/releases/tag/2.3) should work with Microsoft Store. But you must take ownership of MS Store apps directory because by default windows blocks us from editing apps we download from ms store. So google how to take ownership of ms store app directory; one thing you should know though is that changing the write permissions of any app may break MS store altogether unless there is a way on the internet that shows how to recover ms store permissions.
