Thanks to seeing this thumb trick as a small child (~6 yrs old) I tried to cut my thumb off with scissors in the classroom at school. They were kids safety scissors, so no real damage nothing more than what you would get from a few paper cuts. This little episode freaked out the teacher prompting her to ban me from using sharp implements for a while until she realised I was only trying to do the trick and not into self harm.

Here's a short cut how to do it. step 1: Get a knife. step 2: Swing the knife by force pointing at your thumb.
