There won’t be. When these tough guys get into prison they suddenly need to be segregated from the general prison population. Without a badge to hide behind, without body armor, without a sidearm, without a radio to call some buddies in blue for backup, they can’t make it with the other criminals.

I think that if a body cam is turned off for more than 60 seconds a alert should be sent to the police station with the location and a call to that officer explaining WHY the camera is off. If the call is not answered or returned within 3 minutes the officer should remain at that location until back up arrives to explain what's going on unless he/she can prove a life threatening situation

A deputy in my county did almost the same thing and got 6 months in county jail, the same place he worked out of and where all his buddies worked. He got special treatment, outside food, etc. He can no longer be a cop but he never really got punished either.

I’m a former cop wife. My former husband hunted me. He knew I was a DV violence victim. He presented himself as a safe space. Once we got married he assaulted me and my daughters often. I also learned he also SA’d his daughter from a previous marriage and he’s rumored to have harmed other girls in his family. I moved across country from him and divorced him and he’s still able to use the law to abuse me. He’s trying to take my kids from me even now and it’s been almost ten years later. There’s typically no justice and no safe space for women and children from these particular kinds of demons. I’ve tried to get help and even now the courts do not care! That badge seems to make most of them impenetrable!

As a Domestic Violence Advocate for many many years, I worked with many survivors of LE abusers including prison guards, deputy sheriffs, and probation officers. The pull of the badge is strong with those who want power and control. One survivor I worked with WAS a police officer married to another police officer and she was very afraid of her spouse.
