This was awesome and really helpful! Thanks for sharing. I have a question regarding programs that offer both advanced and categorical programs. Should I apply to both positions to increase my chances of matching? Thanks for the video.

I applied to both, yes, and I do think it greatly increases your chances of matching. Categorical is kind of seen as the preferred program because you will stay at one place for all 4 years guaranteed. But in reality, both will get you to the same end point. There are some programs that will offer both types of positions - I applied to both. In this instance it doesn’t “look bad” because it shows you really want to be at a program regardless of if they rank you for a categorical or advanced spot. If you’re also an IMG, I think it’s super important to maximize your chances of matching and apply to both. 🙂
