That's one of the many issues and many problems when it comes to the music industry once you sign that contract,a large percentage of the song you made is theirs while controlling what they want you to make and this maybe off topic but I have this similar feeling when it comes to most movies and TV shows that do reboots, remakes with dull writing.

Corporate greed is natural part of capitalism, profits always needs to be higher than before, the exploitation in music is so sad and the only way artist can make music is start a smaller record labels backed by bigger record labels to exploit newer artist.

fun fact: Dislikes actually boost the algorithm due to more ''engagement''. If you really want to ''dislike'' a video you don't like or dislike, don't comment and close YT for a while after having watched the video or stopped watching the video.

And that's why it is ALWAYS important to read every single detail on your contract or take it to your lawyer if you're still unsure because you can't fight over anything once you touch that signature

there's this kpop group called LOONA and their members had a contract that any profit they would get, they had to pay even more back to the company, so whenever they would "earn" money, they would actually just go more in debt. this went on for years, and it is legal somehow so if you got paid like 1000 for your hard work, you would have to pay 1500 to the company, making your total -500, insane

Going back to the TikTok statement people will say that Steve Lacy’s bad habit song is fire. He preformed a concert on it and the crowd was so loud on the TikTok part. But when it actually gets to the lyrics it gets so quiet. People nowadays are just going around saying a song is fire because the have only heard 15 - 30 seconds of it when they haven’t even heard the full song yet.

Record labels aren't bad but some of the stuff they do is just shady like every industry. It's just about understanding how it works to get what you want as a consumer and someone who wants a career in it. At the end they are trying to make money and if you're in it, so should you. Just make sure you not gettin fucked over in the process like any other profession. So IF you sign just make sure you cool with whatever that paper say is going to happen lol

I mean there was an obvious trend of exploitation in music in the past but it really took off under Reagan and his successors throughneoliberal policies that stripped workplace protections for employees. This naturally helped out record labels and music companies resulting in the phenomenon of "slave deals" and other issues. Sound cloud has helped slightly with this but in order to grow major distributors are still needed and the new distributors such as Roc Nation still adhere to the neoliberal system of the old record labels. Simply put: Music like most jobs in this world sucks because of crappy politicians being bought out by the elites.
