IMCO 6700 and Zippo Fluid Retention

A couple of weeks ago I made a video on the IMCO 6700. I had a viewer that was interested to see how well it retained lighter fluid. I decided to check it against my edc zippo as well.

I have both, I use them as lighters not for tricks. There’s no comparison specially when camping, hands down the Imco , easier to change the flint, holds fluid longer, adjustable flame and I can take it apart as a candle to light the stove or lantern.

If you're into fuel lighters, you should check out the clipper petrol lighter. I carried Zippos for a while then switched to the clipper petrol lighter and I was converted. its fuel retention was excellent as well.

The Clipper petrol lighter seems to be out of stock everywhere I've looked.

I love my zippo !! 32years of outdoor living , Up Rainier, Mt. Adams, Kayaked Yukon ,. Using a one inch Ranger Strap seals fluid and rolls down easy to use .

I have a 6700, and the one warning would be that it goes through flints more rapidly than my Zippo. It frequently throws sparks like an undersized ferro rod.

It would be good to see a video on how to tighten the hinge on a zippo, using the plier method, and seeing how much better it holds fluid. Me, personally, have done it to every one I use, as soon as I purchase it. Gets the fit of the lid nice, and tight. 👍

I bought a stainless zippo and the dam hinges have broken off. I only got a couple of years usage out of it. I love the feel of the zippo but it would not last me the night of smoking before it ran out of fuel and I had to always make sure I had a backup Bic. Fuel evaporation also pissed me off with the zippo, 48 hours of not being used and fluid had evaporated. I read other ppl say a week, I must have got a shit zippo even though is had the american pat stamp. I have just found IMCO lighters from research and excited to get my mine. I have ordered a 6600 and a 6700 so can't wait to see if they can handle my smoking regime.

The only issue I have with the IMCO is they get hot and you can easily burn youself. The fuel tank holds plenty of fuel and you can easily go all night with heavy smoking and not run out of fuel. Excellent flint sparking so 99% of the time the lighter will light first go. Evaportation is very slow when not used.

Weighing them before and after would give us a better idea about how much fuel exactly they lose over unit time

It also makes a difference where and how you carry them I find if my zippo is in my pants pocket and I'm doing something my strenuous on a hot day that the fluid will evaporate faster than say if keep it somewhere cooler say in a front brest pocket on a cool day or anywhere cooler for that matter they also make little gaskets that go on the bottom of zippo/ Zorro lighters that help tremendously.

    - what type of magic spell do you use to keep fluid in your zippo that long.? Bought 2 brand new brass zippos for me, and her, and they dry up, just setting, no use, or opened in a week. I've used zippo official fluid, other brands, and it will dry up. I lost a Zippo many years ago that would hold fluid for a good while. But these new brass zippos are pure junk.

With modern zippo's you have to repack the cotton in wick. they come from the factory with the wick all bunched up at the top of the insert which is awful for fuel retention. I've repacked my brass vintage style one and it lasts 2-3 weeks, and thats with me smoking a pack of cigarettes every 3 days so i use them a lot. So far my IMCO is lasting much longer than that. If you want a guide on how to repack them, look up zippo fanatic 77's video on it

A play lighter like a Zippo vs. a real lighter like an IMCO is just no comparison. The IMCO will last far longer. If you want to do tricks, get a Zippo. If you want a lighter, get an IMCO.
