Iman Shumpert - Lockdown

High-top fade, active hands, and engaged on the defensive end. These are the things that should come to mind when you think of Iman Shumpert. He’s proven himself to be a great asset, and Cleveland’s best perimeter defender.
In this video, you’ll see him swipe the ball away quicker than you’d expect. Shump himself has said that he thinks steals are an overrated statistic, because often times he corrals a loose ball without doing anything, and gets awarded with a steal. In light of that, I don’t know if many of these plays are listed as steals, but they certainly pass an eye test where he positively impacted the team’s defense. He’ll hound you, chase you, and harass you into making a mistake. Just pay attention to the way he keeps the opponents of balance. He’ll ruin their rhythm by bodying them, then contorting himself to avoid them. His style (on and off the court) is unique, and that made him one of the more interesting players to watch this past season.
Note: YES, I know he was a defensive force during his earlier years with the Knicks, but it was hard to get substantial clips from those days. Maybe if they surface, I can do one from then, but we'll all just have to live with this one for now.

Shumpert is an incredibly underrated defender. His hands are so quick. He reminds me of Gary Payton and Jordan with his ability to just strip the ball at will

He could be a force offensively but he acts scared... Shump is a really good player... I just wish he would come out of his shell

Iman's timing with blocks are impeccable. Most of them were of the back too so you have to time when he's goin up perfect without causing a foul. Great stuff
If Shump would work on his offense a little more. He could've easily been a all star

dude golden state is the best team that gets the least amount of calls, they don't complain like other teams do like cleveland and they only complain if the calls or bad, look closely at a foul on the other team sometimes the warriors players are fouled and no whistle, it's pathetic

Shumpert has heart, can't teach that. Surprised he was out of the league so early. He has not let up, movies, podcast. And he breaks down why he defended the way he did. If he wanted to be a defensive coach for guards he would be excellent.

Honestly he just sucks at shooting. He's pretty good at driving and finishing, but he has barely done that since he was traded to cleveland.

I couldn't believe it as he was telling how he prepares, but this is more than enough evidence! I didn't appreciate him enough when he was playing and winning the championship.

the thing with shumpert is he used to be way better and more consistent on defense but hasnt been that way since his rookie season in new york before the knee injuries and frankly before toking with JR Smith became a regular affair. he still can't shoot and he still struggles with his left hand. and his energy level is not consistent. some times his defense is all league, then the next night he's late with rotations , hes making incorrect reads, not communicating, going under when he should go over or going over when he should go under, gambling at the wrong times or trying to slap the ball away only to pick up a foul, etc. when donnie walsh drafted this guy it looked like a steal but 4 seasons later and he is still the same player. and thats not even mentioning his personality issues

I don't even see half that going on with him defensively, I rarely see him give up easy points. now his post defense on guards is suspect, he gambles too much there gets impatient lets guys get a great shot from it, he also does a bad job reading and reacting to screens, sometimes picking up unnecessary fouls out of frustration running through a screen, but other than that, his defense is easily All Defensive worthy. Really does well on switches, reading passing lanes, closing to shooters and contest. Only problem I have with Shumpert is everything offensively, he's way too inconsistent and hasn't found any sort of niche offensively, even his spot up game is suspect and wildly inconsistent. Simply put a one way player defensively who's super athletic but hasn't honed his craft on offense at all.

***** 2 blocks= 2 misses duh.. Curry had 26, lower than his playoff average with 4 points coming into overtime, that means 22 in regulation. Sounds like pretty good defense to me.
