    @Secret Squirrel personally, if I'm flying into IFR, I wouldn't trust trying to go from base to final wearing a blindfold without nothing more than a VOR. But then again, I'm addicted to living. Let's say you have nothing but an altimeter, and an attitude. Your attitude will change very quickly if your depending on just an altimeter and a compass to find an airport without being able to see the ground. That's when it's a good time to squawk!

    @@captclyde7233 i did not claim something about me being an airline pilot. also i do not know about FAA regulations but just search some approach videos and you will see that it is not rare for planes to land after TDZ. TDZ is just for situational awareness. If runway is long enough some airlines have different landing roll limitations.

  • @captclyde7233

    @captclyde7233

    @@aviator1111I can only speak confidently in regards to airlines, being one for 10 years. All require landing in the touchdown zone, first 3000 or 1/3. All our landing performance data that makes every landing legal is based on that, if you float beyond it, mandatory go around. As for GA, it is at best, sloppy. You are assuming your brakes are going to work perfectly, there's no contaminates, no traffic behind you, and you are adding risk, reducing safety, all to save 2 mins of taxi time by holding it off a few thousand feet. Would never, ever fly at any airline. Airlines have a division called FOQA that will analyze all data from the FDR black box and it tells on the pilots if they land beyond the TDZ. then you get a call and have to fill out paperwork to protect yourself and your license.

    The craziest landing I ever had was in Terace BC on Boxing Day. In a blizzard 🌨️. The pilot turned the lights on and all I could see was white. We hit the runway so hard and bounced up. Going Way too fast. So he pinned the throttle to try and take off again. We barely cleared the trees at the end of the runway. Second time around. There was so much snow, we couldn’t taxi to the building. So everyone had to get out and walk in a foot of snow. I do not recommend.

    Not to detract from Evan's skillz, but aren't pretty much all normal landings silky smooth with a trailing link gear? If he was flying a 402 I'd be more impressed. Either way great video and way to slay low mins!
