Illustrator Reacts to Good and Bad Manga Art

Most of the artists I've been getting recommended lately have been Manga artists. So in this episode of Illustrator reacts, I'm going to react to the art of Yoshihiro Togashi, Masashi Tanaka, ONE (creator of the original One Punch Man webcomic), I guess a bit of Yusuke Murata, but I covered him more in depth in a previous episode, Q Hayashida and Katsuhiro Otomo.
In this episode some f the work we look at is from Akira, Dorohedoro, One Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter and the Gon manga.
Also as mentioned in previous episodes, this series is originally inspired by Corridor Crew's VFX Artists React to Great and Bad CGI series:

Assistants are usually only brought in later into the existence of a manga when the mangaka is slowing down either due to health issues(which most of them face) or creative struggles. Still, the assistants are trained by the mangaka themselves to match their style as perfectly as possible. Miura has trained two assistans only in the last 3 years or so for Berserk because otherwise he was never going to finish it. The man has been drawing Berserk for 29 years and he still said it took him a lot of time to train his assistants to draw as close to him as possible(and they only work on backgrounds, by the way).

This is great! I can't believe I'm just finding your channel now! I would love to see you delve into the art of Eichirou Oda, the Mangaka of One Piece. A lot of people I've talked to have told me that they can't get into One Piece because of Oda's cartoonish anatomy etc, but he creates such beautiful composition. His art has real movement and feel, and even his background characters have well thought out and interesting (if not a little weird and silly) designs! I mean, he puts SO much thought into his character designs. Like in one of the very first arcs, our villain can often be seen pushing up his glasses awkwardly with the palm of his hand by his wrists, but it isn't until we see his gloves that have claws on each finger that we realize that he pushes up his glasses like that with them on so he doesn't accidentally shank his face! It's really worth looking at

Would you consider an episode centered around page/panel composition or reading flow (don't know the technical term). A lot of art that you've covered (although not in this episode) is cover art and I personally find the actual comic/manga pages so fascinating because they have to connect to one another. The reason I bring this up here is because there are many mangaka who are exceptional at that even though their art may not be exceptional (for example Akira Toriyama or Eiichoro Oda). Especially Oda is one of my favourite artists because of that and the amazing amount of creativity in terms of design.

May I suggest a rehash of Toriyama's work for pre dragonball? So during his time working on Dr.Slump and not for his interior work but his chapter cover pages, especially his earlier period of it. He's know in the community to be a kitbasher for model kits and always loves drawing vehicles and mechs, so I'd be lovely for you to cover how amazing he is at deforming cars and other vehicles to fit his cartoony manga style during his run on Dr.Slump. Also Mori Kaoru, the artist behind the manga series "Bride's Tale" might be one of the most researched on the attire of the central asian steppe region. The levels of detail and the render she illustrates is mind blowning due to each individual wears clothing with vastly different stitch work. Trying grasp how she gauges these details in her pages is a sight to behold.

@Jutsu Weaver yeah if I remember correctly I believe he rushed the ending just so he can get the series finished? I think he went through a lot of rough spots during the series

@Jutsu Weaver yeah that's fair enough, a part of me would be very interested to see what kind of stuff kaneki's daughter would get up to and what she's capable of

@Jutsu Weaver :re dropped the ball in the later half of the story, he wanted to end it all and the art looked very simplistic as opposed to the earlier chapters.

You really should include ONE again in a future episode. Take a good look at his progress with the art of Mob Psycho 100, and how well he composes his panels.

Two mangaka that have amazed me with their progress over the years are Hirohiko Araki (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) as well as Tite Kubo (Bleach). It's been really interesting to hear your thoughts on them! Also, another incredible artist worth checking out is so-bin (Overlord)

I'd love if you looked at Kohei Horikoshi's artwork, I personally really enjoy it and btw he's the artist of My Hero Academia :) Btw the things I particularly enjoy are: The facial expressions make the characters feel very animated, fights are done amazing in the manga and anime too, the impact feels real, the poses are dynamic and he conveys speed incredibly in my opinion.
