Illustrating my inner struggle with watercolor animation - A Short Film -

Фильм және анимация

"When you shut others out, you trap yourself in"
The film's actual title is "Out of My Mind", a graduation film I made for my master's degree at RMIT. It's just another angsty student film about dealing with anxiety and those kinda stuffs. I just made it all watercolor-y and prettier.
Made with TVPaint, Photoshop and After Effects.
Music by Gemma Notarpietro-Clarke.
Audio by Tyson Lindley.
With additional help by Joel Williams.

    Came from DeviantArt. This is absolutely brilliant in showing the pressures of the outside world, depression, and anxiety! I really like how the optimistic guy reached out at the end and chased the negativity away; it's a good message for offering a hand to someone struggling. I've seen some of your short animation clips on DA (and your drawings, of course), but I didn't know you did short films like this. I hope you do well on getting your degree! Subbed and sharing!

    Hey, this is really beautiful. And relatable. It doesn't hit you over the head with 'ooo it's so hard to have anxiety, we're so sensitive.' There's real power in its simplicity, real honesty. The music and sound-design are next-level as well. Really excited to share this with people!

    Thank you! I'm not sure if I have actual anxiety either, that's why I titled it "inner struggle" because then more people would be able to relate, regardless of it being a mental illness or not.

    Hi William, It's been days since i saw something this creative and unique,I'm totally craving this beautiful piece of art.....It's so perfect it's real art....and i know it certainly have flaws from your perspective but to be honest whatever you have put into this video ,be it style or story or even it's small things all just makes it unique....I'm totally blown away by your way of telling your story ....Everything in this animation is amazing,each scene feels so believable. ...and to be honest i think you have done what most of the animators are not able to do...and that is to make animation believable. ...i can only imagine how much of hard work and dedication you have put in your work here.. ..It's just brilliant,You're brilliant William ...It's been so many days since the last time i saw something this unique,your work and thinking stands out among all the others out there cause you understand Animation is not a genre,You totally understand that Animation is Limitless and your work proves that it has no limit....i pray whatever it is that you want to achieve or whatever you want to create as an artist,may you achieve it....you are my inspiration ,and i wanna create something like this when i grow up, you are amazing and your work is the one of the best thing i have seen in years😊love you and your work william

    Hi, I'm not sure if you still check comments from old videos but would you consider water colouring animating a lot harder than clean cut / coloured animations harder? Also did you learn to water colour animate yourself or did you learn it from somewhere? I don't see many water colouring animations so hard to find tutorials. Thanks, your animation is amazing!

  • @RadenWA

    @RadenWA

    Жыл бұрын

    Heya, the thing with this watercolor look is that you’ll need to brush in the colors every frame while with clean cut lines most software allows you to auto fill in with some sort of paint bucket tool and it usually synergize well with tweening. But as you can see I brush the color very roughly and even play around with it as part of the animation and it makes it feel less strict.
