He’s fighting using the adversary weapons to show off and prove that he’s an all rounder and that he can beat the other guys with their gameplans . You’re absolutely right. He fought a striker and KO’d him using striking, then he fought a grappler and submitted him and now he fought another great striker and beat him standing.

I think he was playing it safe. Whenever you go for a takedown there is a chance you fail and it can turn into a ground and pound opportunity for the other guy. There is also a small chance you recieve a full on punch on the face while dashing. He was just having too much success with his striking plan. He is a better striking than Emett as well, so he thought the smartest choice was to keep it going. It made sense, although there were some points of the fight in which the takedown would have been the optimal move imo (easier said than done though).

I really like this dude. I think he will be a champ one day. I wouldn’t be mad if he got a title shot right now, but i think he should probably have to go through max first before he gets a shot at volk (assuming max takes care of his business). Also, I think that if somehow volk loses to Yair he might have to wait. I think volk has definitely done enough to deserve a rematch if he somehow loses his belt

Dude there's a high risk Max beats Topuria and then we're back to Holloway vs Volk... AGAIN. Nobody wants to see a fourth Volk vs Holloway fight, that rivalry is done, its over, Adesanya vs Pereira was the exception, not the rule. Assuming Volk defeats Yair, give Topuria the title shot, but if Yair pulls off the upset were Volk gets an immediate rematch, have Topuria fight Allen.

Remember the time when Paddy was clowning on him and everyone was on Paddy's side? Just goes to show that hype only gets you so far if your skills don't match it at that time. Paddy still has alot of potential, he just needs to stop being so cocky about his skills cause we've seen he's very hittable and gets into dangerous situations often. Fix those holes and improve your skills rather than eating til your gut hangs. The hard work will always show, look at Khabib vs Conor, both very skilled but Khabib is always training and Conor often has his off days where he gets intoxicated, letting the money and fame get to his head. We've seen Paddy do the same, he's skilled offensively, but can get caught easily... put him against someone 1 punch KO power who can exploit that and it's over. Anyway, I hope Ilia doesn't let his success ruin him as well. I can tell he's hungry for the belt so I have high hopes for him, excellent boxer. Maybe his gas tank can be exploited by someone like Max cause we've seen him slow down later in the rounds, but maybe that was just him being patient 🤷‍♂ We'll see soon as he fights the top 5 or for the belt

There is a one clear attribute I have seen consistently with future champions in their fights leading up the championship: control of tempo. Volk, Izzy, Jones etc went the distance multiple times and never got in serious trouble and were able to dictate how they were going to win. They established that they were winning and if their opponent opened up and took risks they got the finish. Ilia has shown that and showed that again this past weekend. He won the fight from the first bell, was never in a risky spot, and STILL 50-42’d Emmett. I would say the Ilia is a lock for a championship except that the guy who’s at the top is probably going down as one of the pound for pound greatest ever. Either way, I can’t wait for that fight, which looks like it may be coming early 2024 🤞🏻

Ppl keep saying that topuria needs to fight max to get to the title, topuria 50-42 emmet, I’ve never seen emmet this f*cked up since kattar and that’s that topuria showed mercy, he could’ve gone for the kill but he spared emmet in the 5th round out of respect. He deserves a title shot. (Emmets rank 5) I think if u beat someone thats top 5 in a dominate fashion like that then u earn a title shot. Either way I don’t think we’ll see topuria vs holloway if Holloways booked with tkz.

I mean Emmett is a wrestler with an overhand who doesn't use his wrestling, he has gotten by with his power and toughness alone but as we have now seen multiple times anyone more well rounded mops him. Top should prove he can hang with the elite by fighting Max, if you can't beat Max you ain't beating Volk.

Im super hyped n im spanish but he didnt spare him. He was tired and he ate two punches at the end so his corner told him to relax. He needs to get an extra point for gastank and more boxing training if he wanna beat the likes of Max or Volka. I think right now Max would be too much of a challenge Max is in a Matrix himself + long reach. Herbert was a problem. Unless Ilia says wtf and goes to the ground.

What a wonderful interview! I don't agree with everything Ariel says but he is # 1 when it comes to interviewing the fighters. Ilia + Georgina seem like a well matched beautiful power couple. The comments people left after viewing the "short" of him + her walking the path, to the dressing room right after the fight, were very disrespectful. They talked about Georgina like she was trashy + with him just because of his popularity + wealth. I guess the comments were mostly from guys so that's to be expected. This interview with the couple, if watched by the guys who wrote those comments, they would have a totally different view of their relationship.

Im a fan of Ilia but he needs another win to earn a shot. He did buzz saw through Bryce then this one but it was #9 vs #5. Clearly needs another win and its frustrating the way the UFC match makers make frivolous decisions like O'Malley getting a shot. One more win then he's earned it! Very impressive tho

Honestly its not talked about enough how the situation at 145 with Volk and Max and 185 with Izzy and Rob is unprecedented in MMA history; this has never happened before. In prior years the former champ now #1 contender always got bumped off by a surging contender not long after losing to the champ twice, but Max and Rob keep winning and doing the champs dirty work while surging contenders keep failing to beat them. Max fought Volk three times, Rob will most likely get a trilogy fight with Izzy later this year. At this point any contender who gets into the top 5 on a win streak should get an automatic title shot instead of having to fight the former champ turned #1 contender gatekeeper, as all that does is clog the division and we're essentially forced to see Volk vs Max 4 or Rob vs Izzy 3.
