Glad to see Rika back and taking it slow. I wish she would just skip grand prix all together and focus on Jnats, 4CC, and Worlds. Also lmao to the judges who gave Ilia 86.58 PCS for that skating.

To be fair his skating and performance skills are lacking a bit. His programs are kinda painful to watch tbh but he's only 17 so I'm sure he's going to improve on that and his quads are obviously amazing

@@carlottaschmitz3441 I said this when Nathan was 17 years old. He was promising junior turned senior with quads but hey what it has turned out to be... As long as the judging system values quads more than anything (pcs is like a bonus for quads landed and programs looked clean), skaters won't have any incentive to learn skating skills and performance.

I hope ISU create separate competition (ice jumping or ice gymnastic) for the jumpers, keep the traditional "Figure" skating competition balancing between artistry and technical. Otherwise, we will see a lot champions win with soulless/empty /forgettable programs, or even with awful skating skills (with only robotic jumps).

@@huiyinglu4514 I kinda agree with this if ISU can't separate tech with pcs just create separate sport called ice jumping. Idk who would want to see it because I won't. Free program is 4 minutes and 7 jumping passes happened in like less than 10 seconds, so what I supposed to watch in the rest of 3 minutes and 50 seconds? Scratchy skating, arm flailing, stiff knees, and crossovers? I'm not saying jumping is easy, Ilia with his 4A and other quads is a rare talent. But skating is also not easy otherwise you'll have yuzuru hanyu type of skaters everywhere. The glide on ice, speed, ice coverage, knee bends, deep edges, clean turns, difficult transitions, choreography, plus performing and emoting with the music. Combined that with difficult tech, i.e. Quads with perfect landing, now that's what I called figure skating. Hoping for his team to step in and guide this talent, though I'm pessimistic.

So proud of everybody!!! Especially Ilia, even with a step out on the 4A he was chasing Shoma’s tail, only 0.38 points short. Shoma didn’t do to shabby either, this is probably one of his most skillful and refined programs yet. Can’t wait to see how this season moves forward!!!
I'm not into FS as I used to after Beijing, but it was so nice to see Rika again, her FP was really cute, I hope she can add more ultra C elements when she is ready.
The PCS for Ilia are a literal joke. Also, can someone please make an intervention so that they at least change his starting position for the FS? It’s embarrassing to watch!

Did anyone see Ilia's clean 7 quad freeskate in practice?!?

I didn't, I don't support too many quads for the sake of skaters health, I don't even like 4 quad programs, I prefer 2-3 quad max with some triples, high quality jumps with transitions, more artistic/signature moves, and better Choreo/Steps, I like to see real figure skating, not just unhealthy jumping that make you retire too early... it's unfortunate where this sport is heading, 7 quad is actually death of figure skating.
@huiyinglu4514

@@LuckyFanyu : When people talking about 7 quads in a program, do they just WOW about the number or real thinking about the health of athletes? I don't know how many athletes still want to be trained and participate in such crazy competition? I have same doubt for quintuple jumps. After I watched Nathan's 5/6 quads program, I forgot almost all of them. Quad jumps stays in your memory very short. 70% of people like to see artistry and prefer memorable programs. Too many quads make this sport almost the same as high jump, long jumps or gymnastic. Too many quads also kills the "uniqueness", the life, or the "creative part" of a Figure Skating program.

Skating is finally back, it's been a while since I posted anything here. This season where's basically going to have 2 leagues to focus on. The ISU and the Russian league. On the ISU side the skaters that I'm most focused on are Rika Kihira, hoping she can get back into form and land triple axels again so she can be a contender for Worlds. And the other is Isabeau Levito. People think I'm crazy but she's my early odds on favorite to win Worlds this year and end the drought for US ladies. On the Russian side, I think veterans like Shcherbakova and Trusova are on their way down while Valieva and Akatieva will probably be the two best. I can go into a lot more detail on this, but I'll save that for another day. There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss the Russian side.

I agree about Levito, it seems to me that she can become a very serious competitor I do not agree about Trusova. At Sochi, Chan was fed$ decided winner, and at PyeongChang, Chen was fed$ decided winner, but Yuzuru Hanyu was destined to win 2 (consecutive) OGM, so he won both Sochi and PyeongChang, without being fed$ favorite and against all odds. Now Ilia is fed$ new decided winner for next Olympics... and thanks to I$U vice president Lakernik for admitting what they did to push Yuzuru Hanyu to quit & retire. Shame on I$U, they never deserved him, they deserve all the empty seats they need to cover with black sheets, while Yuzuru Hanyu is doing (back to back) SOLD OUT SOLO ice shows. They can overscore their favs as much as they want and it doesn't matter, what matters is, they cannot hurt Yuzuru Hanyu anymore :)
