It's amazing , the instruments on it look like they could have come out of an aircraft from the 70s... even the 109s looked modern

The Messerschmitt Me 262 Hg Iii definitely had a 1970's look. But existed only on paper, as many other designs. The exception of the fanciful ideas is the one most here know of, Horten Ho-229 which did a few testflights.

From memory - this was a 57mm cannon - it was so heavy that they had to install a counterweight in the ass end of the plane to compensate for how out of balance it make the aircraft.

Nope, it was a 50mm cannon. The MK 214 / MK 214A based on the PaK 38. But yes, it was fucking heavy.

@@13deadghosts You are correct. This variant was known as the Pulkzerstorer. A Mauser Mk-214 50mm cannon. The thought was to be able to destroy Allied bombers from a long range while staying at a safe distance from the tail gunners .50 Cal that was decimating German fighters.

Also they had to reconfigure the front landing gear.

One hell of an upgrade. Only seems effective at close range though.

I'd like to use the B25 in the pacific theatre to do ground strafing missions, particularly the version with the quad mount bofors in the front and the 8 other .50 cals

You can only get better with practice..Right?? We all sucked at one point....I still do!! : )

Maybe instead of building big expensive tanks like the Tiger, they should have made more of these jets with extra large cannons

The only plane to actually use the 5cm Mauser gun in combat was a variant of the Me 410. A desperate attempt to give the fighter a way to knock out bombers from beyond the gun range of said bombers.

That's a 37mm, right? Like lobbing a grapefruit at them. Bullet drop. Unlimited rounds of ammo?

Is that a realistic sound for the cannon firing?

@@hammerofdavey Only issue is that if you could just slap a big gun on a plane then I guess the B-25G would qualify? What about the P-39 and P-63? I look at durability before calling something a tank with wings personally. So the P-47, IL-2, and A-10.

Why dont they shoot back? Attacking from the rear with relatively low airspeed you'd get chewed up, I think.

I watched your mod tutorial and then I installed the "project 85" mod and when I'm trying to launch the game it crashes at 70 percent. I saw the troubleshooter page that explains why it crashes and how to fix it but it says that you have to "backup" the ini files but how do I do that?

you need a mods folder, Like Mod Activator on freemodding pick what version are have, 4.12. 413, patrulla-azul.com/FreeIL2modding/forum/viewforum.php?f=17 just drop in your game then message me when you have done this

Why doesn't anyone attempt the high side approach deflection shooting taught to USN/USMC pilots before and during WWII? Big target profile, very difficult pursuit curve for gunners on the target aircraft and the ability to use speed generated in the approach dive to zoom climb up for another attack run from the opposite side?

this guy makes a very bad deflection shooting he aims too far in front of the planes + the planes are not that fast the B17 were quite slow: 462 km/h = 287 mph
