During the war once you identify yourself as an Igbo before Benjamin Adekunle, black scorpion, you are a goner. That was the beginning of the forced self denials.

I didn't learn Ikwerre dialect, I started speaking it. I understood Ikwerre from the first day I heard the language. (Rumuodara to be precised, but I can speak more of Igwuruta now) I was also shocked the first day I heard someone say they are not Igbo. Ikwerre not being Igbo is the cheapest deceit ever.

Proudly Awgu man from Enugu state, Oyibo changed our name from OGU to Awgu, my town is where the white coal miners lived, it’s also where the Enugu NYSC orientation camp is located, we are known for dragging our words, our dialects sounds like French, Yoruba and okigwe sometimes. Example: standard igbo:kunie . English: stand, awgu: koite Standard Igbo: noro English: stay Awgu: loide Standard Igbo: ukwu English: leg Awgu: okpa Standard Igbo: ofe English: soup Awgu: ovee Standard Igbo: ihe nke a English: this thing Awgu: ivelele or ivenkele Standard Igbo: akpu English: pounded cassava Awgu: igbolo some call it utara And so on, but we have our new yam festival known as IKEJI Have the four market days( orie, afo, nkwo, eke) our major market is ORIE You see our dialects are different that doesn’t mean we are not Igbos or should I say I want to be identified as an awgu man or should I say I’m not igbo because My dialect is different? My local government has more than 15 different dialects that if you don’t take time as awgu man you may not understand anything they speak

The Bini,s where like the Romans in Europe, conquer both Eastern and Western Nigeria. If you ask the Yorubas, many will tell you they,re from Bini like the Oba of Lagos, the Oba of Egbaland or all Royal in Yorubaland who claims Oduduwa as the father of both the Binis and Yorubas Royal family.Agbor,Asaba and Onitsha has the Names of the traditional rulers like those in Bini. The obi of Agbor sees the Oba of Bini as his senior brother because they,re from the same Dynasty like myself. The Name EZE is a royal greetings in Bini, try to do a research from the palace, if you really want to know the truth or build a good relationship with other Ethnic groups, we are all related,

The kings of anioma pay homage to the Oba of Benin because Anioma was conquered by The Edo. Why else would an Igbo speaking people in the hinterland pay homage to Oba of Benin. Or the people of anioma are Igbo but there rulers were of Benin ancestry. Benin was only Edo,Delta, and Ondo. Some areas in Anambra are related with that of Delta Igbo

If the Ikwerre's want to be Bini's so be it. The Igbo nation is a 35-40m population, larger than most European nations, including African nations. Thay should be ok. For peace to reign, let each group be. These talks is annoying.

They are now cutting the edge of Igbo people before our liberation. Watch as soon as there was agreement between the Ambazonia and Biafra. These is an attempt to cut the Biafra into pieces. Let no one lose hope because 2025 will be a time for REFERENDUM, and the battle to have Benin as the agenda in 1963 has reawakening again. I have said it for a long time, and that time has come . After OPOBO, u pass tru Ogoni, Okrika or Kalabari b4 u get to Ikwerre or Etche territory/land wich is Igbo. Opobo language is IBANI. It's a dialect of IJAW. Ndoki spoken by som OPOBO ppl was only learnt by our forefathers 4 bizness transactions during d slave trade era. Names of individuals, towns in Opobo r ALL PURE IJAW. Titles, masquerades, marriage rites, womanhood ceremonies, monarchy, family unit/systems in OPOBO r pure IJAW. Y do u Igbos always want 2claim Opobo? D governor of Rivers State - SENIBO SIMINIALAYI FUBARA is an Opobo man. Maybe u shud tell us d Igbo meaning of his names. ALL his names r IJAW names. Same goes 4 every Opobo indegene. Nobody frm Opobo has an Igbo name or surname. We all bear IJAW names & surnames. So how is Opobo Igbo? Stay in ur lane. U can claim Ikwerre cos they r Igbo. Not Bonny or Opobo

I applaud Mr Amadi for giving a more plausible and rational origin of his people because I can't understand a man in Imo will answer "Amadi" while another will answer the same name in Rivers and have no Kinship among each other. Also I believe these communities including the Ikwerre's with their Traditional rulers need to understand that you are setting up the members of your communities to "Emotional damage" like how Mr Amadi was given a proper dress down by a Bini man. Most Binis are very hospitable and will let certain things slide but once it comes to your origins they will become suspicious of your intentions.

It's time for ikwerres to embrace their igbo heritage and stop this Benin lies , as an ikwerre man you're more likely to be helped and saved by an Igbo man if you find yourself in trouble in an unknown land because an average Igbo considers ikwerre his brother , but an average Benin man does not even know what is ikwerre and gives less fuck . How can you claim to be from a place but there's no connection in culture and language , BLOOD IS thicker than water , the war is over 50 years ago ikwerres should wake up and smell the coffee..Igbos have large numbers and international influence aswell .. if there's any tribe to standby ikwerre in times of trouble it's an Igbo not Benin .. ikwerre use your akonuche ..meka

The Ikwere issue is a very complex one, that is the reason why different Ikwere people respond to the issue differently. I am not an Ikwere man but I know about the history of the origin of Ikwere people. Though, history of people is better told or narrated by the people themselves. What I know about the history of Ikwere people is the reason why they have different tunes in their language. Tunes that differ from community to community. When I mean community to community, I'm talking about traditional community not political created communities. They are amalgamated people from different Igbo communities and I have the history of how the amalgamation took place at different times of the past.

Ikwere language is close to ohaji language of IMO state. An Igbo dialect. I as Igbo understand anything an Ikwere man speaks. Once you pay attention. It’s foolish to bear same name, burial , marriage, market etc culture are all Igbo. His story is very true. My Mom is from Etche in Rivers State. The civil war created the entire problem. The Nigerian soldiers sold the division and fear of survival took over. So the Biafran soldiers then treated the Ikwere and most part of rivers as saboteurs.

These people should stop disturbing themselves. Let's leave ikwere alone. It's betrayal of Biafran war. And oil money. Also in 1979 their man Mr ELEMCHI AMADI in the federal house of representative moved a motion that ikwere people are not Igbos .that Nigerian constitution should recognise them as independent ethnic group in Nigeria. It was supported by northern members. So it came to be. So to hell with them. There are not the only Igbo s in rivers state.

You will be shocked what they will say. Many Ikwerre eders are in Ohaneze NDIGBO. One of them was one time Ohaneze NDIGBO president. They are disgruntled because of what happened during the civil war. We only have settle the issues between ourselves. As for Nnamdi Azikiwe, he mentioned the names of his ancestors in his "odyssey article" and their names were all IGBO names but not benin names, all the way through till Eze Chime, their patriarch.

Look at Warri, its origins are benin they dont even speak the language. Language was not important to the benin kingdom. other tribe were allowed to flourish within the empire. People say maybe bein should've just forced their language on everyone. THe ikwerre situation can be explained by the igbo domination of the eastern region created by the british. ev en onitsha was given to the igbos by the oba of benin go and verify.

If you meet hardcore believers in the Benin theory, undertake to take some on a journey to 2 or 3 Igbo states, take them to different villages in the same state and let him hear different Igbo tribes speak in their tongues. This will make them understand that food alone can be pronounced in multiple ways. E.g Wuri, Nri, Nli, Nnyi Ndi, unyi eri, etc. Most of them always claim that the central Igbo sounds different from their dialect and for that, the they are not Igbo. They should understand that we are singularly a tribe and collectively Ndigbo. Those people don't travel, and they really don't know much

I will not sit here to deny that Biafrans could have committed some things too bcos it was a war situation. The truth is somewhere in between. My mum marrying my Dad was tug of war. The father of the girl knew my Dad as a young man who will take care of his child and handed over my mum. He loved my Dad bcos he could vouch for his character.

Mr. Amadi, be careful not to use the contemporary to interpret the ancient history. The lbo are about twenty some dialects. A civilization of the 9th century as supported by antiquities. people migrate to centers of civilization on account war, discontent, disputes, search for green pasture etc the lgbos may not be exceptions. They settle with host communities, assimilate the culture, musicology, personal names , language ,and cosmology, and diety. Name the ecosystem a mixture of the first languge and the second language, speak the host language according to the syllables, synthax ,semantics of their original language to form a dialect of the assimilated language .Nigerians for example speak a dialect of English bear their names. Italians speak a dialect of English according to sylables, synthax, semantics of of Italian language, bear same names. Listen to Italian English and tell the difference. Listen to Ekwerre lgbo and Onisha, Nsuka, Owerre Igbo . Read the history of Aboh kingdom from Benin, the connection of that kingdom to far away Mbaise. You may see the picture of what happened in the past relative to Ekwere. There are lgala tribe's of lgbo, and Nembe, look at their names The town name Emuoha of Ekwerre has Edoid name to it. There are about 400 tribe's in Nigeria, assimilated into one anther culture and stereo type. Ammadi's land lord may have spoken out of ignorance, DNA ,and antiquities may not support the claim.

If Emuoha sounds Edoic, it is actually pure Igbo. 'Enuoha'. To the best of my knowledge Bini's have denied any connections with Ikwerre people except perhaps in trade across that big empire. I am Igbo and actually very irritated these days by my people's concern about Ikwerre people's origin. We know where they migrated from in Igboland. However, If Ikwerre's want to be Bini's, I see nothing wrong with that. The Igbo nation is already too large. We are larger than most African nations (in population) even most European nations. A 35-40m Igbo nation shouldn't be bothered about anyone who doesn't want to be part of it. Let each group move into where they're comfortable. I respect the man above who's spewing his own truth. But it changes nothing really.

apologies for barging in again to once again spoil your skewed half truth deceits. Firstly the word igbo is only a reference about 200yrears old even the earlier eboh which derived from the Abohs an ukwuani group who have told anyone who cares to listen that they are not an 'igbo' group is only about 400 years old. It means references like ikwerre , Aniocha, Aboh, Agbor , Onitsha etc referencing relative groups or then tribes are far more older references. Then to help you again appreciate on your skewed account of history, the three de facto realms between the 11th and 13th centuries in these parts were the Yarbar, the Benin and the Biafran realms. The Benin realm in addition being the de facto power block. The Yarbar now know as the Yoruba had subgroups as the Oyo, the egbas, ijebus and of course eko. There was a recent debate as to who actually established eko but thats for another day. Further more towns like onitsha were established by the Benin kingdom. Onitsha being derived from 'ono chie' meaning an occupied space occupied by the then Benin Oba via one of his princes. Yes the Benin realm and the de facto power block of those days as different from the Benin of today stretched as far as Onitsha and exerted influences within the Yarbar group. Question one how then does the most recent reference 'igbo' of any of the relative groups become what is chosen as one a super group and two a super name or reference for all the relative groups. Question two if names like ikwerre , Aniocha, Ukwuani , Agbor, Aboh etc have stuck with people for far more centuries if not millenias how do you imply rather callously and egoistically that they should bear 'igbo' as their appropriate name. Question three if you are looking for a super name for all the groups while not choose from one of the more earlier and ancient references like Aboh, Aniocha, ikwerre etc?
