Hi Eshi, My husband and I are doing the exact same thing. Moving back to San Diego & touring downtown apartments next week. We also have two cats and are concerned about a high rise balcony. Do you ever have your cats out on the balcony with you? Thanks

Good luck with the tours! Yes, we do take our cats out on the balcony, but only ever with a harness and leash on, and with us literally right next to them lol. Harnesses are great because they let you grab them if you need, but no cat harness is truly ever escape-proof, and I really fear if they try to jump on the railing. So I would be HYPER vigilant if you allow your cats on the balcony! I cannot stress that enough, and it's honestly much safer to not. But they do enjoy the air, so please just be careful! 💙

Just curious - could you remove that center vertical board, or do you think it's vital to the structure?

Great question! Originally, I was going to remove it, but sometimes Ikea furniture is not the most structurally sound so I left it, since my cats would be inside.

@@EshiJay Fair! I've been searching for a cabinet to house my microwave but it's so hard finding one that's deep enough. This one is, but that damn board is in the way 🥲

If your microwave supports the top (or you can put something on top of your microwave to support the top), might be fine! But definitely be careful

For the same price you could get a self-cleaning litter box and never smell cat litter again. Good job with this project though.
