Ikea Linnmon Stress Test

Ойындар

I was upgrading the tabletop to my desk and decided it would make a good video to see exactly how strong a "cheap" Ikea tabletop really was. I was really impressed with this Linnmon table, it held up better than I thought it would despite the fact that it is basically made out of cardboard! I would still recommend this desktop if you are building your own desk!
My desk, as seen in this video, is made of Ikea "Alex" drawers" and a "linnmon" top. I upgraded to a "Karlby" counter top.

idk man, I regularly sit and stand on my desk when working or mounting something behind it, needless to say all my desks are steel frame and I'm only ever gonna get steel frame desks for any of my workspaces. They're cheap and often even free on the used marketplace over here anyway, so I see no reason not to. the 70s and 80s factories, offices and schools loved steel frame desks

This is the best test I have ever seen! I have one of these desks that is about to get replaced by some butcher block I found for a great price but it has definitely held up for me as well. I have the same type of setup 2 Alex file drawers with the Linnmon on top, it has held up my PC with 2 monitors (a 32 inch and a 27 inch) since I got it without the middle leg. Definitely would recommend this to someone that needed a cheap desk setup. It is much better than a folding table (I have seen so many PCs damaged because of folding tables).

Even without it, you'll be fine, as long as you don't do a "jump and smash". The leg is just to reduce sagging, to assure a more level surface. Obviously, it can hold the weight of a person, without any issue. Unless you use it as a work bench to rebuild an engine, it will handle anything you put on it, plus, it's safe to lean on.

I have Linnmon tables in my studio where I do my oil painting work. The melamine coat makes it easy to clean up and, even though the table tops are scuffed, stained and dinged, when I need to replace them it will be easy and cheap to do. The Alex cabinets work well for the sides and, on one, I have a filing cabinet supporting the middle of the table so it's extra strong. I had a Canon pro printer on one for years, it is a huge and heavy printer, but never had any issues with it.

I had a dual monitor arm on a linnmon desk. One day i heard some cracking. Looking at the mounting point for the monitor arm, and it was halfway inside the table.

06:40 the same pattern that use a basic door (only more compact), 4 sticks to form the frame and inside this type of honeycomb pattern, so it's a horizontal door.

Tell ya what, im actually applauding ikea for this one. If you were to use a similar board with 4 legs; thatll cost you about £20. £20 for a sturdy desk. Im genuinely surprised with this

@@kadenburton7450 “Most?” Definitely not true. I live in California and I’ve never been in a house with cardboard doors. Same for desks; the only time you’ll generally see fake-wood desks is at school, libraries, and in your buddy’s first apartment because he wanted cheap, light furniture to carry up to his room lol.

I’ve had this desk for over a year and never knew it was cardboard. I thought it was made out of complete wood, I wanted to buy another one and saw it in half to make a custom one. I’m glad I watched this before, I would’ve been shocked 😂

CRACK TRICKS hell yea. I have my tv of 43 inches on it, a stand with my laptop when I do homework, it also fits my ps4 and Xbox as well. This desk is amazing and it’s cheap as well. It be best if you put it on wood tho, it doesn’t do good on carpet. They have different size ones at ikea, if you got one near you, I’d pick it up. With the 4 legs it cost me around $35 I think, buy a drill from ikea tho. You’ll need one to build the table unless you got some jacked ass arms to build it with just a screw driver

u should be good, im trying to build the same thing with the 59" linnmon tabletop and 2 alex draws. you would have to exert a large amount of force in the center in order to break the table. i assume your monitor or monitors will be in the middle and they dont weigh that much.
