about sanding those tops, I used to do that for many employers. In the end the best way is to batch them if possible but either way find a local woodshop with a wide belt sander thicknesser or even planer thicknesser and belt sander combo, a place near us had a machine capable of doing 130cm wide tops. Pass it through a few times, hand the boys two cases of beer and leave with pristine tabletops and new friends.
"I have no employees... I have kids tho" made my day. My younger daughter is itching to help me with work around our garden and she enjoys it.
My favourite video of yours yet brother. Love the blend of upcycle, renovate, woodwork, 3D print and laser. A genuine and honest account with relatable comedy intertwined. Ignore the festool haters, its cheaper "per use" over it's (and your) lifetime. Bravo

Hej! Loved your closing remarks on „get yourself something from ikea and…“ Long story short my flat came with a kitchen preinstalled (Germany, no kitchens normally, it’s a thing) Anyway the cabinets needed some tender love and care - so I replaced the counter tops and doors and drawers. nothing fancy. but lo and behold - my 1999 built kitchen now has a crisp new white look, new countertops and probably will serve me the next years. Thank you Mr. Swedish Maker for your inspiration and call for action 🇸🇪 🎉❤
1:40 it’s a pet peeve of mine whenever I shop at IKEA: why are so many tabletops NOT wood, when the feet are? Does it bring down the cost, or does it increase their margin? I really wonder what I’m paying for in that situation. Also, what made that table ugly is the white veneer. Nothing can redeem a white plasticky veneer. On the other hand it would have been attractive if it had been a natural wood pattern, even with the ovoid shape.

"Does it bring down the cost, or does it increase their margin?". Both. A full solid wood table top is expensive.
I'm looking forward to your video on patching the new table top because you drilled thru your work again. I'm sure you will have a well thought out detail for the patch
I loved your video! And all your explanations! Thanks! Very beginners friendly!❤❤
Great job the table looks amazing
Sir! You did judge your planer! No snacks and movie for the planer I noticed?! It has been in touch and that remains confidential. Great project, my heart was alongside you, you looked so beaten up!! Are you as tall as you appeared? Bit of a heavy chamfer ?? Loved the laser. Quality as normal Sir. Bob England
Love this project. Great to see the practical uses of 3d printing and laser cutting/etching. Because who actually makes money with those things. 😉 Great story telling and look forward to see all the projects you come up with in your new place. 👊🏻

thanks a lot mate! and no you cant really make money from those things 😂
Good one! VERY funny! I have to say, coming from U.S., living in Greece for three months a year, and both houses full of IKEA furnishing, Europeans don't..."do" comfortable chairs, bed mattresses, and...something else, I forget...Oh, yeah, refrigerators. But I have to give it to them for Festool and Bosch. Very refined...if unaffordable, but still... Keep up the funny work :)

How did the connection between the top and the rest work? The way you explained it, it would seem that the wood movement of the top could break it?
Ahahaha love the ending 😂. My wife is like that exactly!
Excellent video man! I felt your pain planing all that wood, I’ve done the same in my single car garage and swore never to do it again. Certainly wasn’t prepared for the amount of effort it required. Excellent results though ❤

Anything can turn into an argument with anyone's dear spouse. Agree. Then do what is needed. Keep the spouse, lose the furniture. (decades of experience)
I would have used the old top to put a new top on top. Glue it to the old top.
Nice final outcome.. But a genuine question, why the wood panel has to be that thick? Wouldn't a one inch thick panel be enough for the use case?
Hi there. Nice work. What’s the name of the wax that you use on;;;
Nice table. How much were all the tools?
Good for leg space. Not like "four normal table legs" good, but . . .
If you sold it to your wife, did you also have to share the profit with her? Or does she also take the money... :D

Very nice.
Great craftmanship. But wife's got skills too
the problem of sanding is that when you start as apprentice, you fill 90% of the time with sanding. first year i sanded hundreds of antique wooden shutters of an old monumental country manor. also shutters had those angled slates, thus i was only allowed to manual sand. the most mind numbing work i ever done for 7 moths straight. seems to me you indeed need to hire an apprentice lmao!
wow so nice

11:50 Ikea furnitures are already apart so...😉
That's a strangely successful failure. I have two points, however: a) why did you go into all this trouble and not use baltic birch plywood instead which would be thinner and thus more elegant and in line with the table's design? b) why not try to make a project out of this by copying it? I'm not sure whether there are any intellectual rights on the design as it looks quite old so that such rights may have expired - if such rights expire, that is - or if there still are such rights, maybe make something similar without the IKEA design features that make it an IKEA design?
In the end the wife always wins. So grab a beer and accept it. 🤣🍺

This kind of project works better with older IKEA pieces. The last two decennia the quality of IKEA products has deteriorated significantly. Material has become thinner, metal was replaced by plastic, wood by particle board, .. and so on. IKEA has become the Zarah of furniture. It is cheap, wears out quickly and then you replace it with something new and shiny again...... and again.... and again.
Blev ett riktigt snyggt bord så jag förstår att din fru ville behålla det haha 👍
Doesn't, not don't
You moved to a new location, I thought you'd have a better work environment, but that workshop doesn't seem to be much more comfortable. What's your plan about this? Will you make a bigger workshop? If yes, would you document that?
