It would be interesting to see what those trans and oil temps do when it gets hot outside!

@aerynlovell4754

@Kenneth O A supercharger is connected to the engine and therefore has ZERO LAG. You just said with a small turbo it has HARDLY ANY LAG. You seem to be confused because "hardly any" isn't the same as NO LAG. And if you work on your reading comprehension, you would know my biggest issue with turbos is the excessive amount of tubing (compared to a supercharger) and because it is connected to the exhaust the heat from the exhaust is transferred to the turbo then to the intake air. Any discussion about turbos vs. superchargers talks about parasitic loss from the supercharger vs. turbo lag and heat transfer from turbos.

Automotive Inquiry just put out a really good series comparing the Chevy 6.6 gasser with the Ford Godzilla, pulling about 15k. He showed on video the difference between using cruise control and not using it while going down hill. No surprise, cruise control maintained speed while not using cruise control allowed the trucks to speed up. The idea that people don't use cruise control while towing, comes from years gone by when cruise control systems were truly terrible. Nowadays things have changed, and if you want to properly test vehicles, you should test them for things they've been designed for.
Trans temps were concerning. Since traffic caused you to end the test early, suggest doing the test again - in August.

Ike Gauntlet isn't necessarily practical but actually even better, it's a torture test; trucks that do well on it inspire a lot of confidence for the rest of us that won't be pushing our trucks this hard. Otherwise, yes, TFL has a few other tests that are practical, like the mpg loops.
They should offer the 3.0 turbo diesel. It may not have as much power as the the new Ranger Raptor. But that TQ and the fuel economy would be a big plus. As of right now the 3.0 TD Silverado has the best hwy mileage out of all the full-size offerings. It will allow the Colorado to also claim best hwy mileage as well.

A mid size truck towing a nearly 7K lb box up that mountain is pretty impreasive. Period. It's never going to do it with as much ease as a larger truck. I think the transmission mapping could be much better in tow/haul mode but overall, that truck performed fairly well. I am excited to see the new Ranger and Tacoma in comparison although the Ranger doesnt have a "Trail boss" trim level. For 75% of the population that needs or wants a truck, the new mid sizers are more than adequate.

Great review. Really looking something like this and would possibly see a few mountain trips, but mostly flatter towing. I'd roll less weight though. Looking at the temps I'd say maybe put that external trans cooler. Will defiantly be watching for more updates.
That was a great test. I have this engine and 8 speed in my 2022 full size trail boss.

Worked for the dealerships as a tech for the past 22 years. Looking at that oil temp and trans temp that was displayed I wouldn’t count on the longevity of The trans. Data logging at that point in the temp graph it would suggest the trans was 260 and oil temp was excess of 260.
That thumbnail looks incredible! Prob the best on KZread in my opinion.
Mr Truck firing in all 8 cylinders today!! 😂😂. “Why’d you buy a urine coloured truck?” Hahaha!! This is about what I expected from the Colorado. Maybe we can see if a truck from the press fleet WITH cruise control could manage differently?? Be an interesting experiment. I’m sure the fuel economy will improve with the cruise control. Always does, but I suspect the grade braking would downshift one more time. The transmission temperatures, I wouldn’t care unless they go too high. Toyota runs em hot as well. Could be an efficiency factor now that they run synthetic oils in them exclusively. Things do change over time. I’m sure we will see the High Output version towing on a hot day to try to cover all the examples. There’s the Canyon as well which GM has chosen to aim at a different demographic than the Colorado. Smart idea to widen the demographics overall for the market. Nice review and I agree with the rating!! Hard to stay objective when it’s your own vehicle, but Andrey did very well indeed! I appreciate the Ike Gauntlet videos. As far as off-road trailering goes, I’d like to see an off-road test, pulling the Roamer1 (and next size down) on an uphill/downhill two track road and on a section of road that requires an articulating hitch. The goal of the test is to see performance of low end torque and 4wheel abilities under tow.
Objectively it was a 4/5 Star run, but I think it failed to pass the eye test. It realistically only deserved 3.5/5 stars. The transmission and gear hunting should have been bigger demerits. The new Ranger with the 2.7 and 10 speed will likely get 4.5/5 when it completes the same run.
Wonder if the engine braking is keyed to using cruise? My Cadillac XT5 engine brakes more aggressively if I set the cruise while running downhill.
Mr Truck mercilessly dogging Andre’s truck. 😮
I always wonder how long a smaller liter turbo gas engine will last if being used for towing. With all the new engines like that, in about 5 years we will have a good idea. I do like mid-sized trucks.
You should do the test in "Plus" configuration and then get the "HO" upgrade and run the test again and see if it's worth the $395
Great result. Really impressive for a mid-size. This is 1/2 ton truck performance from just a few years ago.

This truck has a 3/4 ton payload capacity so it should have at least 1/2 ton performance…
Andre, Still waiting for the Ike Gauntlet testing the new Superduty with the Powerstroke High-output.
I'm so glad you made this video because I want a Colorado but I've been looking at bigger trucks that I can't afford because I wasn't sure it could pull my camper. My rig is 4900 lbs dry and 6500 with the tanks full. It's only 23'. If you can pull that monstrosity in the video up and down the rocky mountains then a Colorado will serve me just fine in the middle of Virginia. Thanks!

Did you purchase the Colorado? How did it pull your trailer? I’m currently in the same position and would like to know how the Colorado performed. Thanks

Is there no option to use a manual mode? Could you not down shift it to hold it in a gear that will control the down hill?
Hats off for testing your own truck like that, I dont think i could load my brand new barely if at all broke in engine like that

Agree, but it is a business write off in his line of work.

@@larryj8924 Personal purchases are not write offs. Unless he has a channel or home business he is using this for that I don't know about. TFL did not buy it. Whether or not he gets paid $ from Roman behind the scenes for this content is also another discussion. As many have used their personal vehicles for filler content.

He will flip it in less than 3 years, so I whole heartedly hope he abuses the shit out of this thing between now and then. Give a true impression of how the GM can stand up to short term owners that work their vehicles hard. Still waiting for the payload tests that they never seem to do. (hauling gravel, bricks, lumber, etc.) Few press loaners at Davids Ranch got a work out. But that should be included in everything they test. IMO.
How long is that the 4 Turbo going to last? I have a chevrolet with a normally aspi
Was this a 2 or 4 wheel drive truck? Aren't the rear end gears normally lower in a 4 wheel drive? And also is the head in this truck aluminum? I always worry about them getting hot and cracking while towing.
would cruise control set at 50mph on the downhill cause th engine to downshift if in tow haul mode on?
Truck was level. 2.5 inch squat is good. Also the trans temp was fine. When trucks run too cool its worse than running where this truck ran. Another thing, adding a extra air to air cooler is good but running the cooler through the radiator is better for heat transfer. Liquid transfers heat better. I knoq your truck doesn't have cruise but if you test one with cruise I'd usd it on the downhill that way the truck will shift to maintain in tow/haul
I love the stance of your truck
Check the option list fro oil and transmission coolers.
Would like to see this same test in the summer. Something tells me it will overheat
Does Mr Truck recommend putting the aux trans cooler before the radiator or after? Seems like keeping the heat out of the radiator would be good. My F150 with 3.5 Ecoboost has a similar mpg rating, but a 36 gallon tank. Tank size is part of the reason I didn't buy a mid-size.

In front of the radiator
Did I miss it what is the tongue weight/hitch weight? I can’t find that number anywhere for some reason.
