CAT 2023: Exam Pattern
The CAT 2023 exam pattern will follow the structure of CAT 2022 with a reduced number of questions.
* The CAT is an online, computer-based exam and the medium of instruction is English.
* The paper is divided into 3 sections and each section has a sectional time limit.
* Every correct answer will be awarded 3 marks while a wrong answer will lead to the deduction of 1 mark. Thus, the marking scheme is +3/-1.
* The TITA (type in the answer) questions do not have a negative marking and follow a marking scheme of +3/0 marks.
CAT Exam 2023: Syllabus
The IIMs do not release an official CAT syllabus making it tricky to study and prepare accordingly. The basic outline of the syllabus includes the Maths and English syllabus from school, which does not narrow down the problem any further. However, based on past papers, candidates can identify the most frequently covered topics for each section.
* The VARC section focuses on grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehensions through various types of questions including odd sentence out, parajumbles and para summaries to name a few.
* The DILR section included sets of questions based on graphs, charts, seating arrangements, etc. Reasoning and logic are the basic foundation of this section, making it the most undefined of the three sections.
* The QA section is the mathematical section. Candidates must prepare from the class 10 maths syllabus for this section. Special emphasis should be given to arithmetic and algebra.
CAT Exam 2023: How to Register
The registration process for CAT exam 2023 begins soon after the CAT 2023 notification is released. Thus, after the CAT notification was released on 31 July 2023, registrations began on 3rd August 2023. To register candidates must have a valid email id and phone number.
Here are the steps to successfully register for CAT 2023.
Step 1: Open the official CAT website and select the New User to register. Fill in the details required and submit to verify the account.
Step 2: An OTP will be sent to the official mail and mobile no. Enter the OTP and very your account.
Step 3: On the official mail the candidate will then receive the user ID and password to log into their account.
Step 4: Once logged in, the candidate can fill out all the details including personal details, academic details and work experience.
Step 5: The documents will be uploaded during the registration process including a photograph, signature and reserved category proof.
Step 6: The candidate must also select their preferred programmes and their university of choice.
Step 7: In the application, the student will also be required to select 6 test centres according to their preference.
Step 8: After reviewing the application, the applicant must pay the application fee online.
Step 9: Once the fee is paid, the candidate will receive a confirmation of their registration via mail.
CAT Exam 2023: Documents for Registration
Candidates should have all their documents scanned and ready for upload during registration according to the guidelines. Some of the documents required for the application process are:
* Scanned photograph
* Scanned signature of the candidate
* Reservation certification (if applicable)
* PwD certificate (if applicable)
CAT Exam 2023: Centres
During the registration process, the candidate will be required to choose six test centres in their order of preference. There are over 150 test cities based on the CAT 2023 notification. The aim of the conducting body is to allot the candidates atleast one of the preferred locations if possible. The candidates will find their exam centre on the admit card.
