What an achievement from the boys, first the Euro Hockey Challenge win in Winter and now promotion back to the top division for the 4th season in 5. British Hockey hasn't been in such a good place internationally in decades. Absolutely wonderful to see.

David Neraas I know where UK U18 and U20 play. Plays in Division 2 Group A with Lithuania, Croatia, Spain, Romania, Serbia, the Netherlands, etc. Only I repeat once again, if you do not know that you can improve the game in the course of your career, if there is a good league. Let me bring you some players from the UK. Joshua Waller, 23 years old, and he played for Great Britain in the same Division 2 Group A, both under 18 and under 20 years old and moreover, he scored 9 points only once. Well, in the first season in the British Championship, he scored 9 points, then 8 points, then 7 points, and last season he scored 22 points, and this season he scored 29 points. That is, progress is visible. Joshua Tetlow - defender, also played until the age of 20 in Division 2 Group A, and then began to improve the level and now plays in the 2nd league of Finland and has 9 points there, and the efficiency factor is +11. Cade Neilson also played in Division 2 Group A Under 20s, scoring 6-8 points in the Under 20 tournament. And then he played at the World Cup in the elite and 5 points, now he scored 8 points here. In general, the player is not bad and this is clear to everyone. I gave examples of 2000-2004 of the birth of players who know how to play. These players show themselves in clubs, only in the UK there is not enough depth of the squad, and taking players who were born in the UK is a normal topic, they were born in this country and play in it, this is normal. And only 4 are naturalized. You understand the level of players grows when you play in a good league. Substitute conditionally, Jonathan Phillips, Matthew Myers, Mark Richardson, David Phillips. These players can be easily replaced. Only Matthew Myers has 27 points. Who to replace? Scott Conway - 90 points in the UK Championship, I think he is a top player and better than any of the above. David Clements -20 points, this is a good defender and can easily replace any old defender. Joseph Hazeldine - 12 points, also a good young defender, and he still needs to improve, but he can easily replace old defenders. Jordan Kelsall -11 points, also a good defender in general, and can also improve. And I'm talking about the attackers in general. Ross Venus, Lewis Hook, Ciaran Long. You see, the UK had a good national team, and it will remain without old players.

I think GB will struggle to stay up In the long run first reason they have too many import canadiens and very few British born players with British perlini , Halbert, Hammond, lake , mosey , O'Connor are all Canadiens GB are applying the same tactic for short term success as Italy and Khasakstan to some extent. The second reason is that GB has a old team with many veterans that are carrying the team yes they have Liam kirk , 24 and dowd but dowd is 30 so he is a veteran and ofcourse the assistant coach's son. But apart from them it's very thin. Third reason GB will struggle to stay in elite level in the long run is their junior national teams u18 and u20 are miles away from the elite level. Every year will be battle to avoid relegation for GB.

@@Simon-re4jg then why do the majority of the so called british players have canadien or american accents could it be that they got a british passport after they moved to play in the british league after 3 or 5 years thats usally the trick lesser nations use to get short term success because they are too lazy to develop players on their own or try to compensate for their lack of home grown talent. Sure you might get success in the short , but in the long term its gonna comeback to bite you and second its not only an age issue you will struggle your biggest major problem is that your junior british national teams the u18 and u20 are no where near the top division thats inevitably going to be future problem that will rear its ugly head sooner than later.

Here one person David Neraas wrote about the problems of Great Britain and in reality they exist and are approximately the same. There are only a few features. 1. Hammond, Jones and Halbert play in the UK, they were born in the UK but started their careers in North America. That is, it is not difficult to find such players. Conventionally, such a player is Garrett Wright, he plays for Usports in Canada, and was born in Belfast. Or Tristen Robins, he was born in London and plays in the AHL in North America. Harrison Blaisdell, this Sheffield-born player also plays in the NCAA in the USA. That is, in this way you can recruit players who were born in the UK and have British roots and flirt. That is, no one will use such things, but the UK can. 2. The UK has a good league EIHL, that is, there you can level up and become stronger, the British are getting stronger. Joseph Hazeldine, good defender, born in 2001. Nathan Ripley, good striker born in 2002. Archie Hazeldine, again a good defender born in 2004. Alex Graham, good striker born in 2003. That is, you can make a national team out of such players, one way or another you can. Jack Hopkins, also born in 2004, is again a good striker. Here the story about the lack of such players in the UK is in question, but if you take such players + those who were born in the UK, well, and a couple of naturalized ones, here you will have a national team of a level above conditionally Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Hungary, South Korea, Estonia, well etc. 3. The UK has players who play overseas and 1-2 of these for each age can easily be found. Well, in fact, the UK will always be near the elite, that's all.

They wount because their national team is aging and their junior national teams are nowhere near elite level. the fact you are stating here is why i dont respect nations like GB , italy and to some extent Kasakhstan because they are too lazy to develop talent by them selfes just give canadiens or Americans a british or italian passport after a few years so we can compete seriously the iihf needs to put a stop to this bullshit. Thats why i respect who by far where the best team in the tournament this year and because sure Poland have a canadian born goalie , but in difference he has lived in Poland for many years before he got a polish passport and he is only 1 player the rest of the rooster is polish born. Respect to Poland no respect to GB and Italy. who are too Lazy to develop home grown talent. There is major difference between having half your team or the majority of the team made up of canadians or americans with british or italian passports and having 1 single player like Poland. Teams like Poland , Japan , Slovenia , and France and many more will always have an edge maybe not in the short perspective , but in the long term perspecitve because these teams have home grown talent no imports.

Had he got smashed into boards 1meter or less away from to board i would agree with a boarding call, but not when GB player had an hour to prepare for the impact.

David Neraas I agree about naturalization and this is not the coolest thing and conditionally Kazakhstan, Italy, Georgia, China, etc. they overdo it. Only in the case of the UK everything is different. Jones, Halbert and O'Connor, Hammond were born in the UK. Brett Perlini started his career in the UK. Whistle's father played in the UK. In fact, only 4 are naturalized. Ruopp, Curran, Lake and Mosey. Just again, Evan Mosey has been playing since the 2014-2015 season in the UK Championship. Ben Lake he has been playing since the 2017-2018 season in the UK Championship. Sam Ruopp and Johnny Curran they play in the UK Championship recently, but I think they will play there and play mostly. That is, they will also want to connect life with British hockey. Perhaps many have British roots. That is, the UK does not use stupid naturalization. Let's take a look at the contribution of the players on points in the UK team. Liam Kirk, born in the UK, a British hockey alumnus, scored 10 points in the tournament. Cade Neilson, born in the USA, is the father of an assistant head coach in the Great Britain national team, a British hockey alumnus and scored 8 points in the tournament. Mike Hammond, born in the UK, has been playing in the UK Championship since the 2016-2017 season. Scored 5 points in the tournament. Robert Dowd, was born in the UK, a student of British hockey. Scored 5 points in the tournament. Ben Bowns, born in the UK, is an alumnus of British hockey. The best goalkeeper of the tournament. That is, as we see the naturalization of players, this is somewhere the strengthening of the national team, and not a strategy, unlike Italy, Georgia, China, Kazakhstan, etc. Great Britain does naturalization pointwise, as South Korea did for example. They took 7 hockey players conditionally and that's it, now their naturalized goalkeeper remains. The UK doesn't do it to get 16 Canadians and play like they did in the 1994 World Cup. I repeat once again, the UK has its students and I listed them, there are young players and believe me they will adequately replace. I can list again and those who are already showing themselves born in 2000-2004. Nathan Ripley, Joseph Hazeldine, Archie Hazeldine, Alex Graham, Jack Hopkins. There are other Britons who did not make the national team. Scott Conway, Ross Venus, Lewis Hook, Ciaran Long, David Clements, Craig Peacock, Samuel Duggan, Luke Ferrara, Jordan Kelsall. Liam Steele, Mack Stewart, Mason Alderson, Logan Neilson. That is, the UK has a choice of hockey players and this is a fact.

I see your not even aknowleging the fact that the British junior national teams are no where near elite level u18s and u20s i have never seen u16 GB team play. Your dreaming if you think that the young players you mentioned will just naturally adjust to senior level hockey and replace the retirement home that is the current GB team the current GB team has many players over 30 and quite a few that are close to 40 those players can not be replaced without an impact when the junior national teams are nowhere near elite level.

1 the so called talented British young players you listed are in fact not young anymore many of them are close to 30 as far as im concerned when your close to 30 you are not a talent anymore . 2 some of the players you listed are under 20 meaning they play at a level wich is nowhere near elite in the world championships. 3 if British elite domestic league is so good then why arent Finns and swedes and Swiss and German players etc rushing to eat to play there .?? i will tell you why because the only players nationality the elite British league attracts are Canadians and Americans who are nowhere near good enough to play at international level in Canada or the US.

  • @GBPhilip

@@davidneraas750 None of the current players played top level junior international hockey. The year of Bowns was the best we achieved the following year in the equivalent of the second tier we got stuffed. The common factor between the U20s playing at their highest level and the senior team doing well is Pete Russell.
