Ignored And Magnified: Unveiling The Unequal Impact Of Schizophrenia & Rooting Out Discrimination

Myths In Mental Health Stigma.
Myth 5 - A fact check on discrimination. In actuality, schizophrenia does not affect every population exactly equally. Every group on Earth displays SZ symptoms, but not all evenly.
Namely, there is a larger incidence of SZ in populations such as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color who experience discrimination and oppression. Early and ongoing trauma and abuse contribute to mental illness and symptoms.
It is time to protest police brutality, defund the police violence, and end systemic racism. As a white person, I do what is in my power to support those white people learning around me and uphold marginalized, oppressed voices of BIPOC.
BC Schizophrenia Society is running a campaign to raise awareness about myths and facts regarding schizophrenia.

I'm really liking your myth busting videos. The effects of poverty and severe discrimination based on socioeconomic status ties in with this, too. It takes down plenty of people of all ethnicities (like provincial social assistance recipients with disabilities) including white people and puts them at a much higher risk for mental and physical disabilities. Especially, if they have to endure it during the child and teenage stages. Thanks for these :)

You are very welcome. Yes, the problems can compound so much for some people. Everyone who "mainstream" or "prejudice" sees as "weak" is usually quite strong actually, if they aren't totally suffering and needing support from the community. We are suffering collectively in many communities! Do you have any idea of what some solutions might be? Just curious.

Shared on my Facebook - I don't know why I've never made that connection of early childhood trauma and mental illnesses outcomes with the higher instances of trauma and stress in communities. Thank you again for a poignant and powerful video ❤️
