Ignition Switch Repair | Nissan Titan, Armada, Infiniti QX-56

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Having no crank, no start issue on your first generation Nissan Titan, Armada, or Infiniti QX56? Before replacing the starter or any relays, first check the ignition switch behind the key cylinder. Often, only a little cleaning is all it takes to resolve the problem.
If you do need to replace the ignition switch, this part should be a direct replacement for most first-gen models (AmazonConfirmedFit may say it's not compatible):
amzn.to/4bXXpjx (ad)
The only tools needed for repair instead of replacement are a Phillips and slotted screwdriver, a paper towel, a nylon brush or old toothbrush, some dielectric grease (amzn.to/4aSR5Zd (ad)), and electrical parts cleaner (amzn.to/3Uctvkp (ad)).

Great video! I highly recommend people do this fix before they replace the starter.

Thanks! Yes, this seems to be a fairly common issue that could easily be misdiagnosed as a starter or starter relay. Better to troubleshoot the easy access items first!

I took my ignition cylinder out for the same reason. My 2013 Titan SV would periodically NOT turn over ( Just one little click sound) but was starting to become almost a daily occurrence. When I removed my ignition cylinder, it was pretty messy with black corrosion so I cleaned it up with a wire brush the used the dielectric grease and reinstalled it. So fare so good for the last 4 days.

That's great! It's been over a month since I cleaned mine and it still cranks the first time every time. Before I found out there were issues in the ignition switch, I had been starting to look at replacing starter solenoids. Thankfully the issue was much simpler than that!

About to do mine on my 2010 QX56. It's just about left me stranded twice over the last weekend.

From what I can see, it is highly likely that it would be the same procedure as the video and same part as in the description. I can't say for sure without having that model, though. The problem is that Nissan doesn't sell the ignition switch separately, but instead bundled it with the steering lock assembly, so there's not an easy way to check compatibility. If you feel comfortable checking and cleaning it yourself, you should be able to get it cleaned up and working like new without replacing it. My Titan is a 2007 (I've had it since 2014) and just started having ignition switch issues a couple of months ago. Now that I cleaned the original switch, it hasn't had any issues since.

Unfortunately my 2008 QX56 has a different switch setup, designed for use with the wireless key fobs. Update - I was mistaken, it's the same switch module, just located way back from where I had expected, and hidden by a kludgy install of a third-party tracking module, since removed. With a modest amount of foul language I was able to replace it, and it does seem (so far) to have fixed the problem. Thanks!

Ok, good to know. That makes sense that it is definitely a different part for models with push-button ignition.

Does yours have the Rockford Fosgate audio system? I wonder if that has anything to do with the extra wires.

I can’t say for sure if the replacement switch will work on that particular model, since Nissan wants to sell the entire lock cylinder assembly instead of the switch by itself. But, it should be the same process as in the video to clean the old switch.

It should be the same switch for 2005 QX56. The reason it’s hard to verify fitment is that this particular switch is bundled with the entire Frame Assmebly Steering Lock part (D8701-7S000), and not sold separately on Nissan or Infiniti’s parts sites.

@@FixandMaintainthank you and mines is doing the same issue this morning it started fine drove to get food then come back shut off I restarted it 3 times over and. Over it was fine then 2 hours later I try to start it up it takes me 5 times then turns over I hope this part works other people keep telling me it’s the starter

It’s definitely a much easier and cheaper fix than replacing the starter! There are a couple of failure points in the starting system, one other being the starter relay in the panel under the hood. Hopefully yours will just be a dirty ignition switch as well, though.

Replaced the battery 2 times in the past 4 months?!? Sounds like you have a problem with an electrical drain that’s making the batteries fail prematurely. I was suggesting the battery first since it’s the easiest to diagnose. Cleaning both battery terminals would also be an easy thing to rule out. There’s a chance it could be the starter or starter relay, but I’ve heard the starter is quite difficult to replace on the Titan. Just trying to suggest the easiest route first.
