    The blocks you saw bouncing in the show were technological channel caps, also known as Assembly 11 blocks, and they only weigh approximately 50kg each, depending on type of channel underneath. The show got that part wrong, claiming they weigh >200kg, that's incorrect and a very persistent myth that originated from a book. Neither the fuel rods nor the control rods were jumping, they were all hidden in pipes several meters below the blocks that you saw in the show. Pressure was escaping from the valves at the top of technological channels, lifting up the caps above. Still a tremendous amount of steam.

    To cause Chernobyl: The Sequel you will need to put the reactor at half power for a long time then put the controls on auto pilot which will stall a xenon poisoned reactor made from being at half power for too long. You then restart the xenon poisoned reactor and remove most if not all of the control rods. The last thing you do is... You guessed it AZ-5

    I know how to run a reactor. You dont do anything and let the ones who do do their work. But there is usually a big red scram button that makes scary alarms go away if you somehow are the only one around (god how?) unless if its a rmbk 1000.. really all reactors are unique and has their own parameters, but really it all comes down to putting down or pulling up the correct amount of control rods, if you insert all reaction stops, if you pull out all.. never do that for any longer time. Typically around 40% of them are down.

    No more graphite-tipped control rods that caused the power surge which destroyed the Chernobyl reactor after the SCRAM was initiated.

  • @3DRiley_

    @3DRiley_

    4 жыл бұрын

    They are still graphite tipped as it it is necessary for the fuel enrichment (before accident 2% 235U or according to some sources even natural Uranium at 0.7% 235U, now 2.4% 235U) and design of the core. Without the graphite, the assembly can't reach criticality at such enrichment because the moderation from the water is too low. Instead they changed it so that at full withdrawal of tipped control rods, there is no pocket of water (which has a way lower moderating ratio MR of 71 compared to the MR of carbon at 192) at the bottom, meaning that when a fully withdrawn rod is inserted, it won't add positive reactivity in the lower parts of the reactor due to an increase in MR when water is replaced by graphite.

    The music is annoying and the amount of cuts is seizure-inducing. What's the point? You're not conveying emergency or suspense with this. Looks like you have good source material, but everything is just mish-mash editing.
