Someone wrote: As a Japanese person, I’ve waited for AC to adapt a Japanese story, so I can play an epic story of a SAMURAI in Japan. Now in current year, we don’t get a samurai but a forced diversity character that’s not a samurai, OR Japanese. For context; the real historical Yasuke met Nobunaga for a year, then was sold back to the Jesuits and never obtained a rank as a samurai. We could've had Hanzo Hattori as protagonist, dammit Ubisoft. And I totally agree.

Toyotomi hideyoshi was as poor peasant and a servant for many years before he rose up. His work was involving to carry Nobunagas sandals and warm them up in the morning. Its documented that he one daymade a misstake and forgott to warm them up infront of a fire and insteed he stuck them close to the body with arms around to warm them up. Other of much higher rank wanted to cut of his head because he had made them dirty because he was a peasant. Nobunaga stoped it and liked the creativity. It took years for him to rise up as lowest class in japan and Nobunaga would make yasuke to a samurai after one year? Its ridicoulus. Even if Nobunaga took a liking to him he was still a lower class then the native lowest class. You dont become a samurai after 15 month of daily sword training. It would take years and not only traning. Toyotomi hideyoshi is well documented and he is a very important figure in Japan. I think he would been a great main charachter. A underdog farmer that become a Imperial Regent and Chancellor Of The Realm. He was also called the monkey by Nobunaga even after years and when he earned his respect. This would fit him in a assaisn creed game. Small and nimble. Dont need to be 100% accurate but atlest he has proof that he rose and become even more than a samurai. We could follow his younger years as a thief and where he was a servant to Nobunagas enemies and at that time he did not care to wich lord he served.
He's just mad about what the Japanese did to his ancestors.

I don't mind them stretching what ever logic to justify a Black Samurai we are talking about historically fiction here, But for Assassin's Creed a game about Assassins who kill targes out in the streets and then blend back into the crowd to hide. Having your protagonist be a the only black man in feudal Japan walking around in armor is just silly. This would have made for some awesome DLC. Besides Assassin's Creed you have the expectation to playing the local people with each new game. You want a Black Samurai make it it's own game with it's own world's logic and gameplay.

I’m an Asian and I’m not even anti-woke. I think, at its heart, wokeness is about being a more compassionate society, but of course, as humans, when we take ideologies to the extreme we tend to screw them up. That goes with any movement and any ideology. But this is insane. The west already doesn’t have a healthy relationship with Asian male protagonists, and the one time Ubisoft could give Asian males that representation, they take it away in the name of diversity (and let’s be real, we all know why they did this). Again, not paying respect to the history and culture of Japan. No wonder Japanese twitter went nuclear during the release, and I don’t blame them.

Wokeness is not about being more compassionate, its about destroying strong, established cultures, societies and nations that are capable of standing up against globalism and replacing them with something more malleable and controllable. There're rumors he's ghey.
Ign definitely hired a journalist who dont like gameing or even doesn't care about it.
The whole article is moot. We're talking about AC, not every other piece of media featuring samurai. There have been NO samurai in AC until this ONE game. Every AC game has a local as the protag. This one doesn't because DEI is ONLY implemented SPITEFULLY. It's always *at the expense* of another. Why not just make an AC game in Africa? Because that wouldn't be spiteful.
I am so disappointed that Ubisoft is using an actual person whom has passed away to tell a fictional story when they easily could've just do what they did for every other game and make a fictional character of the nation/region like they have done so many times. Nobody, not a single fan of the series, thought it was a tired trope. Yasuke could've still been in the game as a cameo or as a side/support character. Also. I am disappointed at this Asian American for lumping all Asians together as though they all share the same historical records and interests. Once they outed themselves as Korean they lost the argument. It's not a story about Asia. It's a story about Japan. Get over it. I am nothing more than an African American male who loves all of the differences and similarities of all cultures. Give Japan their respect. This feels like a slap in the face.

Japan sees him as nothing more than a slave of Nobunaga. I'll take the historical word of the Japanese regarding Japanese history than a bunch of French and/or French Canadians.

allowing wikipedia to be edited - unless its to change a conservative person's narrative when he has been libelled - is letting activists rewrite a source of history still used by a lot of people. its utterly nonsensical - INGSOC stuff! they must have a Winston Smith rewriting all the stories

The story begins with the dialogue being interrupted by the chirp of the smoke detector needing batteries
I predict this will be the least successful AssCreed game so far. Hopefully it will do Ubislop some financial damage, becuase they produce nothing good any more, and they believe gamers are plebs that shouldn't be allowed to own their games. IGN(orant) is trying to be the next Kotaku. Mercunte can probably get a job there when the Kotaku broom cupboard gets shut down.
A highly missplaced character for no other reason that they due to DEI and funding were forced to put a black man in the game to tick off boxes. Damn Blackrock and Vanguard for the likes of this BS.

More like forced to make the only known black guy from the period who stood out like sore thump into the protagonist of a stealth game...
This Yasuke have no achievements, No impact whatsoever to Japan history, No battle record even his story about being a Samurai/Squire is contested. The only interesting about him is his black skin color that is also the only reason Oda is interested on him. For a person who have nothing to show except his skin color i find it weird that ubisoft choose him as the so called legendary warrior
So much for “Stop Asian Hate” these people were spouting a couple years ago….

Ubisoft made the mistake of not hiring Samuel L Jackson to play Yasuke. I'd buy that game!

Exactly. It's just about showing respect to the cultures and peoples that you are depicting. I also think that it's what people prefer aesthetically. When the setting is Feudal Japan I want to see clothing, architecture, people, etc that are specific to that setting. Same goes for medieval Europe, Ancient Egypt, the Aztec empire, or any other setting. I want to enjoy the things unique to those settings, I don't want to see a world that is more similar to modern New York city just so that they can fulfill their globalist overlords' diversity agenda.

Saw a thing on Twitter showing sweet baby inc listing themselves as former Ubisoft devs, makes perfect sense.
What's unfortunate is we've been waiting for this setting for years and they just had to wreck it. Every other entry has had the right representation for the era/setting, yet that doesn't seem to be good enough.

You forget the English man William Adam’s who became a Samurai - I have a suspicion they didn’t pick him for the main character in Japan because he was a white samurai

Anyone notice the guy looks more like a modern American than a African?
It’s not that he’s black, it’s that he’s NOT Japanese. Honestly games could completely get away from this issue but just putting in character creation.
Best thing people can do with this is a.) Don't buy anything from Ubisoft and b.) add Kotaku and IGN to your hosts file blocklist to avoid giving them any traffic.
If you didn’t want to have an Asian protagonist, then don’t set it in Japan in 1579. Ubisoft tells gamers that they have to get comfortable not owning their games. So let’s stop renting their games.
To be honest it's weird that they just dont use the man name in this game even. Yasuke is not a name as it's like title of a job. It's not even a nickname as it be same like a person who is dragging the golf bag around and gives the stick to the gold player. Even knights had people who carried their swords. It's like a personal slave. It's also kind of funny that people dont actually understand that this is mocking the black people by making the character like that without deep understanding what the word actually means
The only Samurai that can only be seen at night when he opens his eyes or shows his teeth.
I’m not surprised that a Korean is happy about the lack of Japanese representation in a game set in Japan considering the animosity that still exists between the two peoples due to the history they share
I miss the onimusha series. that was fun back in the day.
It is weirdly refreshing that they are playing culture vulture of Japanese culture and not European culture for once.

He was a sword bearer for Oda Nobunaga. Not a Samurai but definitely higher class than a peasant in those days because being allowed to bear a sword was a big deal and not for peasants.
Damn, IGN needs to #StopAsianHate
Weird how they were so offended by RE5 having a white man in Africa...yet this is A-OK
I’d be willing to bet that IGN had him write that deflection piece before their cover story in the new game came out.
Yasuke sounds like a Japanese name. If he existed at all, why don't we hear about the person's original mozambique name?
I agree with the Korean kid. There are other Asians in the world not just Japanese people on an island.
Anyone know if the bots have been deployed to youtube likes by Ubisoft for Shadows?
The game is set in JAPAN and these journalist are not grasping the idea that people think it's weird to play as a black man in Feudal Japan Assassin's Creed? Sounds like a great idea. Yasuke kills an enemy as the other enemies give chase to the only black man in feudal Japan. Yasuke blends into the crowd. Now the enemy cannot find the 6ft tall black man wearing samurai armor amongst the Japanese townsfolk.
You know, looking at that list of 10 games the writer of that article prattled off, part of me has to wonder how many of them actually made it Stateside and/or Out of Japan at all. I'd be surprised if it was more than half cause about half of those games I've never heard thing one of until now, and it's only Sekiro and Tsushima that I've heard of in recent memory. And recent memory being about 5 to 10 years.
IGN again, are they going the Kotaku route? what now they will blame their French subsidiary that is not connected to them in any way? it ain't gonna cut it this time!

I’ve bought every AC game so far and I’ve loved all of them in their own way. Samurai have and always will be my most favorite historical warriors but I absolutely will not be buying or playing this game. The Japanese MEN deserve to be represented in the assassins creed genre. I’m massively disappointed with Ubisoft.
IGN - Imagine Gulag Network
And limited number of black people doesn't speak for all black people.
I don't care about representation at all. I care about immersion. Knowing the main character was not a Samurai and in all likelihood never saw battle breaks it for me.
Somebody please bring back Techu Stealth Assasins with Rikkimaru and Ayame.
Yeah we had those other samurai games, but I wanted a Japanese assassins creed . That’s the point
I've uninstalled all my UBISOFT games, now I am waiting till they delete my account in a couple years from not playing anymore. I am sad to watch my money sink away into the nether, but, I'd rather watch it waste away instead of supporting them with a player statistic. First it was the subscription model, then the Star Wars debacle, now this, 3 strikes your out.
How many people do you kill in the average Assassin's Creed game? It must be in the thousands. So this will be a game of a violent black man killing thousands of Japanese people.
3:32 "Hold my beer, I'm gonna do some mental gymnastics" got me rolling on the floor 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And yet John Blackthorne was considered slightly racist then I read an article of its good that the white englishman is a bumbling goof in the show. The guy is literally based off of William Adams. Also "Like a Dragon" is a Yakuza game...a game about mobsters. Also the author is not Korean. The author is American.
