Igglybuff Only - Pokemon Crystal

Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, save states, or RNG manipulation
4. No evasion moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- *In gen1, evasion boosting is allowed if the Pokemon does it through means other than learning the move by level up or TM. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed. (This exception is to keep ranking consistent with my legacy videos.)
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons all my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- All in-battle glitches are allowed in generation 1
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1, banned in gen2, and allowed for bypassing terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
-- The ability Pickup can only be used if the starter has it

Personal thought, but it's possible rock types are able to hurt ghosts due to a lot of superstitions about them involve using salt to repel spirits. So, rocks can hurt ghosts due to the minerals

Rumors say the Igglybuff that defeated Red then went on to explore the Sinjoh Ruins and later the world, forming a guild of its own with a Chatot it met while chasing after apples and adventures.

Yes Jigglypuff is my favorite Pokemon since 1999 so I'm happy to see Igglybuff. Even if the line sucks sadly. At least we got Scream Tail which is cute and strong

I kept having a strange back of the mind thought that Igglybuff "should" have the elemental punches even though it definitely does not get them. Then I realized I was thinking of the picknicker gauntlet in Crystal Kaizo, at Lake of Rage, which includes a lv99 Iggly with all the punches plus Body Slam. So that explains it.

I actually appreciate the clarification on the Defense Curl+Roll Out combo, I always used to wonder if you needed to reuse Defense Curl after Roll Out ends to get the boost again, now I know better, thanks Scott. 👍

Wait, Wooper isn't a baby?! How? I mean... 1. smol (16 inches!) 2. cute (I mean, look at that face!!) 3. hatches from an egg ✅ 4. low base stat total comparable to other babies ☑5. evolves at least once ☑... what am I missing? Is it just because they aren't from Kanto?! That's discrimination, I need to see the PokeManager.

I always figured normal people don't believe in ghosts so they can't do anything against each other.

New to the channel, but this baby series has been my favorite. It’s really cool to have a unique smaller ranking system within your larger tier list. Keep up the great work!

Normal people can't do anything against ghosts is such an absolute savage comment.

My theory for why normal type energy doesn't affect ghosts is because it's the basic energy of all living things. It represents a Pokemon's vitality, and is intrinsically tied to the pokemon itself, a mortal being.

Besides what other people said, that salt was used to repel spirits, a lot of japanese spirits in myths were sealed in rocks, so that's that. In fact, a lot of spirits were sealed in a lot of physical things, like swords, buildings, caves, etc.

I think when developing gen 1 gamefreak were approaching pokemon much more like a traditional jrpg and that the normal type exists to represent melee attacks while the other types, regardless of which attacking stat they pull from, represent more magical or specialized skills. Like, normal type moves would be the equivalent of just clicking the basic attack button in a typical rpg, while the other types are the equivalent of choosing a skill or spell option. I think this speaks to why normal types specifically specifically can't hit ghosts, and also speaks to the singular special stat in gen 1, with magic being a stat that is similarly both offensive and defensive in some rpgs. I think that this also speaks to why so many pokemon, regardless of their type, were stuck with almost exclusively normal type moves in gen 1.

I always figured that rock and ground could hurt ghosts because they're like, natural earth inspired. Sort of like in some lore, ghosts can pass through human made structures, but not the ground or natural structures like mountains or caves. Normal attacks or fighting attacks don't harm them, but earthquakes or falling rocks can.
