How fast can I beat Pokémon Crystal with Primeape only? - Pokémon Crystal Solo Challenge

Channel Membership: / @squidgy
Twitch: / trainersquidgy
Twitter: / trainersquidgy
Overlays made with @kangaskdan 's help! Thanks Dan!
Challenge Results: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Universal Pokémon Randomizer Changed Evos: pokehacks.dabomstew.com/rando...
Chat/Comment Guidelines:
1: Respect each other, do not intentionally cause arguments and diffuse the situation immediately.
2: Please no backseat gaming. If I need help, I will ask the chat for help. A lot of the fun for myself and the viewers is coming up with the strategies on my own and solving problems in my own unique way.
3: Listen to the streamer. If I say stop, I mean stop, and move the discussion on.
4: Please don't reference other creators' in-jokes and running gags on my stream. Just as much as I wouldn't like another creator using my lore, I would find it disrespectful to use other creators' lore.
5: Moderators' and streamer's decisions are final.
The Rules:
1: The timer starts when walking away from Professor Elm after receiving the starter Pokémon.
2: Only the Challenge Pokémon may participate in battle.
3: No items in battle, except Balls from the bag.
4: No evasion-increasing TMs, and no Rest and Sleep Talk TMs until every other option has been exhausted.
5: No intentional uses of glitches or exploits, except the Teleport glitch after the SS Aqua.
6: No Rare Candies until facing Red. Rare Candies will be used in a 3-3-4 pattern.
7: Timer may be paused for breaks in recording, but no inputs may be made when the timer is paused.
8: Save states are permitted in the overworld, but no save states may be used mid-battle.
9: If the challenge Pokémon faints, the previous save state must be reloaded and progress regained.

He's back! SUCH a nice surprise to see a new video. We all missed you dearly. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss - I really hope you're doing what you need to take care of yourself. Obviously everyone handles grief and loss differently, but I've certainly been in a similar spot. I lost one of my best friends during the height of the Pandemic (I found out while I was playing Pokemon Go, actually). Playing any kind of video game was so hard for a while, because as you said, when you're deep in a session, your mind wanders quite a bit. Something that helped my healing process was adjusting the way I thought about my relationship with my friend. Though he was gone, it didn't mean that our relationship was too - it just lives on through memories, reminiscing with mutual friends, and celebrating his life every year. Every loss is different and everyone works through loss differently, but I hope you know that you're not alone!

I'm glad you've been doing well, bud! The best way to work through grief is to talk about it, and if I've helped just one person feel like they're not alone in struggling, then I can hold my head up high.

I feel your pain. I've got very few of my "elder" family members left. I haven't lost anyone recently but I've been to more funerals than i can remember. Both of my parents, all of my grandparents, and the vast majority of my aunts and uncles (and I'm only 36). Not counting the friends that have gone, for one reason or another. So, I don't know you but I understand the pain and heartache you're going through. You're not alone. I'm glad you took the time you needed to process things and I hope you're in a better place now. Even though i know it'll never be the same now that they're gone. Much love and support from the U.S.

I'm sorry for your loss, friend. Your empathy in asking us how we are is very telling of who you are as a person and it's a good thing! I think we should have a separate NFE list, and just make a video of notable comparisons once they're both done!

Welcome back! I'm glad you took the time for yourself to understand your grief, it's different for everyone but never easy. Primeape is one of my favourite fighting types! I had Pokemon Blue growing up so I never got to use it in the Kanto story until I got Leaf Green. You had me at the edge of my seat beating Nidoking's time, what a close one!

Glad to see your content again, I missed evenings with your content. I hope you're doing better now, I know how it feels to get drag down by the emotions of losing someone. All the strength in the life. To quote Dr. Hiriluk from ONE PIECE here: “When do you think people die? When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom!? No! It’s when… they are forgotten.” As long as you always carry them in your heart, they will always be with you.

I'm on my way there, so thank you very much for your words, even though they were looking for support it goes both ways and I can't thank you enough for them. I always get a little scared when speaking english, but it's worth it. Grief is necessary, also painful, I'm glad you decided to understand it rather then ignore it. When I lost someone very important to me I didn't really understand grief, and to learn about it was rather intense. What I mean to say is to mourn someone's death is to understand yourself and what you feel so you can heal, maybe never fully, but to look at a scar and remember how that person impacted your life Now, on a less serious note, I would like a different podium for the not fully evolved mons, since they are kind of destined to be super low Glad to have you back

Grief is such a quirky thing in our lives. I have deep sympathy for what you have been going through. It is in those quiet moments when the ongoings of life no longer distract us and the pain can crash right back over us. I do hope that in time those moments will become more sweet than bitter, where the memories that arise keep your loved ones present in your thoughts, and remind you they are still a part of us, always.

I lost my aunt a few days before Christmas. She had a bleeding stroke. One day she was fine, she was buying clothes for her grand baby and was so excited for them, the next day she was on life support. I got the phone call when I was at work that my mom and sister were going to pick me up to say goodbye to her. We got there at the hospital a little after six and it was a little after eight when she took her last breath. It took me a good solid month to process her death, since she lived right next door to me, and I felt (and still do feel) some guilt in not spending enough time with her. But if I look at it as a teaching lesson, to spend more time with people, then it doesn’t hurt as bad. There’s still some songs I can’t listen to, I look down her driveway every day going to and from work to see if her truck is in the driveway, I catch myself wondering what she’s been up to. So you’re definitely not alone in processing grief, and everyone has their own different way to heal. Take as much time as you need, we’ll be here when you’re ready.

Its great to see you again Squidgy. In regards to different leaderboards, I think it would be neat to have a Little Cup group (first stage pokemon) and possibly an Egg Moves leaderboard, to see how different pokemon perform when they are given a better start. Then you would have the Master Leaderboard with all pokemon (minus Egg moves).

  • @Squidgy

What you've described is exactly how the leaderboard program functions at the moment - we've got the giant leaderboard (which isn't shown on videos, but is sometimes shown off on stream), and then we have different smaller categories for all of the different run types! It shouldn't be too hard to add a Little Cup category to split the first stages off!

Hey man, good to see you back. Sorry about your losses. I lost my father in December, had my first child (son) born in January and my mother passed away 2 days later. I had the same issue with free time and my thoughts, I hated having days off because I couldn't shut my mind off about everything that happened so quickly. I know it's hard but it does get easier, although it's always going to hurt. Try to remember the happy memories with them and remember that they wouldn't want to see you depressed and hurting. Stay strong 🙂

I couldn't comprehend losing both parents within the space of a few weeks, and having so much joy in the middle of both horrific events. I hope you and your family are doing as best you can in the circumstances.

Squidgy, I've come straight to comment at your 23 minute request because I really feel for you. Foremost, I'm so sorry for your losses. Any loss at any time can be devastating, but to lose three people in such a short space of time must be traumatic. You've done so well to acknowledge and talk about processing your grief - just think about the message that sends your beloved followers and HM friends. You always use your channel to promote messages of kindness and compassion, which is why I always come back. I've never held back in telling you that watching your runs brings light to my days and honestly, I've been struggling with my mental health since last year. Today was particularly hard and painful but there you were, whether by coincidence or fate. I really hope you have the support and embrace of loved ones to continue to see you through dark times - you give so much and deserve the same in return. Look after yourself mate.

Primeape only!? Good luck! (I'll watch this later for sure 😎🤙) I'm running as Schoolboy Nate in Silver (Exeggutor and Ledian only) and I'm brick walled at Karen. This is hell lol

I think that having individual leaderboards for full evolved, babies, middle stages and backports is best, but maybe updating a master leaderboard every couple months will all of them could be interesting just to see if there's any major upsets there.
