She's moving as softly and economical as a cat. Pure pleasure to watch.

every coach out there telling me to fully extend my arm at front before follow through and then the number 1 in the world actually showing perfect compact and fast motion with "broken shape arm /elbow " ... powerful enough

Isn't that a feature of male Eastern forehands? Players like Federer seem to fully extend their arm.

@@ProPlayerTrainingZoneWhat I mean is perhaps it is not biomechanically favourable for women players. Like compact backswings or the Eastern grip.

I am a tennis coach in the US, and I can say that bent arm is more stable because it involves the majority of the body, hip etc., with the arm. Any balls needing spin are more stable with bent arm. Extending the arm is normally with attacking balls so the hit is flat. Swiatek has a good stroke; prob semi-western grip would work just as well, and she could adjust the racquet face on the fall in the back rather than relying on western to close the face for her. The benefit with semi western is when you flatten balls.
Thanks for the great analysis of 1ga's fantastic forehand.

2650 rpm top spin measured in WTA Finals match against Jabeur. When the ball hits the ground, it simply ”escapes” with that rotation speed. Nadal creates average 3000 rpm.

It was in wind and very humid conditions which slower the spin. Already a year ago her spin was measured many times and it was absolutely comparable with Nadal's. Insane, incredible and unreacheable by other women in WTA as well as men

@@elwiraludwikowska9576 I just didn’t want to say here that usually her topspin average is 3000 rpm. Some “hater” would right away say that’s not true, it was 2650 rpm against Jabeur…….in US Open they constantly measured the hit speeds. Janik Sinner was able to hit forehand 4 mph faster than Iga, on the backhand only Thiem was able to hit the similar speed. Iga’s average was higher than top 20 on the men’s side. So then we always speak about „hard hitters” Sabalenka, Garo etc. but the truth is that maybe they hit hard flat, but never with such top spin. Iga in fact is the true hard hitter.

and the same thing they said about Iga
Kryptonite to the WTA default topspin FH. No one has the low short slice to the side T to exploit the Western weakness : the necessity to get below the ball to rip it; the inability to change grip to hit approach shots; inability to approach effectively. Having to ladle up dozens and dozens of these would be brutal.

Iga’s game is truely efficient. N.1 WTA for a reason. But, good forehand technic?? I think, we just see the numbers sometimes, and say automatically oh, yes, perfect technic👏👏. Over all, Iga wins because she has an explosiv footwork, not because of her forehand technic.

She has been good with it so far, but it does seem to risk wrist or elbow injury. She does do the little jump, but does not sidestep too much and she keeps her shoulders square. Interesting stuff, thanks.

The risk of injury is lower in the western grip because it hits the ball with the back of the hand, and not like in a classic shot when the impact causes a strong vibration of the entire arm and elbow at the same time. Western grip is like brushing the ball rather than pushing it.

She plays to her forehand. She’s one of the few on tour who do. I think most of the players depend on the backhand for consistency & to attack serves on the return. So most players in rally patterns tend to attack forehand which plays into Iga’s hands. She’s fun to watch

Is nothing new for tennis players, everyone is build different. In this sport is easy to get injured and not simple to recover. You can analyze/compare more players and is hard to say - this is the best … ? Is just sport and Iga still have something to improve…
