Thanks for the reminder. I’m 41 and have wasted many years feeling like a failure over bad decisions. I pray young women know and appreciate their worth and keep reminded of whose they are and know bad decisions may happen but they will never define them.

this was the video I needed today! yesterday I was feeling like a disappointment because of how challenging the job market is right now...and I just graduated from college. I have a job, but I only work about 16 hours a month due to the pandemic.

I also have the experience of making choices that ARE congruent with my Catholic faith, that some of my Catholic relatives disapprove of. It’s hard when those you want to please, and those who should really be in your corner, disapprove of your choices 😔

Disappointment as part of your identity....I’ve related to that ideal for years. Like anyone, I’ve made bad choices, but I think one of the most disappointing things I ever did was to pursue a career instead of settling for a mediocre relationship. To me it’s the best decision I ever made, going back to school and chasing a dream I’d kept to myself for many years, but I can’t help feeling that certain members of my family and original community are disappointed because I haven’t found someone and started a family of my own. I’m from a very small town originally, and if you aren’t with someone by your early to mid twenties then people consider you an anomaly. I’m happy with my decisions, because I think they’ve opened a lot of doors for me, but I wish I could be free of the weight of disappointing loved ones who expected my life to take a very different trajectory. I don’t know if this is what you were really talking about, Emily, but I enjoyed your video. A lot of what you’ve had to say lately is really encouraging to me, even though I don’t consider myself a person of the faith these days. Also, baby Jedediah’s face at the end melted my heart. You have a beautiful family. 💙

A funny thing....I took a class for mediators on "dealing with difficult people". The very first thing the instructor said was that it's not difficult people...it's difficult BEHAVIORS. And those difficult behaviors in a mediation could have a variety of underlying sources and causes about which we know nothing. So same idea. I have to hand it to my parents. Sure, there were times that they said they were disappointed in me. But they never said, and I never felt as a result of anything they said, that I was a disappointment to them.

So glad this was on your heart, I’m sure many will need to hear this. It’s so hard when you feel like a disappointment to yourself and it’s too easy to fall into the trap of thinking it’s all you’ll ever be. I needed to hear this! ❤️ Praise God for His mercies and grace!

Thanks for the encouraging video, Emily! I'm going through a really confusing season of life and I'm struggling to make decisions because I don't trust myself to choose the right thing, I don't want to disappoint my future self. I'm also going through a tough season of doubting my faith, please keep me in prayer.

Dear Lois, one day at a time. Take it one day, one decision at a time. I don't know if you practice any faith, but the prayer "Jesus, I trust in you" has helped me a lot during confusing seasons of life

I needed to hear this today. I have sometimes asked my mom if she feels disappointed in me for having a learning disability and not being able to find a job where people give me a chance to learn and have enough hours. My mom does tell me she is thankful that I'm not a drug addict and not a party animal, so I guess I haven't been a complete disappointment to her.

Thank you so much Emily! Your videos have really been helping me recently.

I needed this video too, thank you Emily! I also find that we can get disappointed by things that happen in life, or by things that we do. Remember that the Lord is always with us and will always love us no matter what choices we make and no matter what happens to us in life.

This is what I needed today. Recently, I've been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and the symptoms make it difficult to study. I'm also looking for a job and I haven't been able to find anything yet. But this Lent I'm trying to have more confidence and patience in the Lord, hoping that he is always by my side. Also, I recommend everybody to do the Consecration to Saint Joseph, especially because this year has been entrusted to him. Thanks again, Emily. Greetings from Argentina!

I needed it! I have been struggling so much with despair even to the point of suicidal thoughts. Because I just feel like Ive failed and Im such a disappointment. Not because of some great sin but because I graduated college 2 years ago and I still haven't really done anything with my life. Thank you Emily:) ❤

@@emwilss um two people know. Im going to try to go to counseling. Ive been saying the rosary and that helps. I dont think id act on the thoughts Im just really lost right now.

Emilyyyy! I'm crying. Thank you for this. 😭😭😭 you're making me cry early in the morning 😭😭😭 I labeled myself a disappointment in all aspects of my life for some mistakes I chose to do in the past. Which made me feel ashamed to be proud to call myself a Christian even when I am not the same person I was. 😭

There was a saint called Margaret Cortona and she lived a promiscuous life and she converted to the faith after the death of a Man she had a child by. She then went to the Franciscans and became a sister. She had mystical experiences with Jesus and in one Jesus showed her her place in heaven. She asked Jesus why it was so high up in heaven and Jesus told her that ge have not only saved her a place in heaven but he kept her a place with the virgins. God has the power to redeem!!!

I agree. But also you can be a disappointment to people for choices you made that were not wrong but different from what parents or whomever wanted for you. For example I am a disappointment to my MIL because I am white, fat, and poor and not a good choice for her son. He is a disappointment because he chose wrong in a spouse. But that is not our responsibility. Sometimes parents/grandparents/leaders/friends can be wrong in their disappointment. God has made everyone with unique talents, passions and paths. And sometimes when we follow those paths we can disappoint people in our lives. That is on them, not us.

So me everyday

Nice video. But it doesn’t even matter. You can choose to save yourself for marriage. Making all the sacrifices. All it still be taken away in a moment. At church. Where you were suppose to be safe. Disappointment and no worth are the only thing that makes sense.
