If You Only Want To Own 1 Luxury Watch - 5 Reasons Why A Rolex DateJust Is The Best Option At $2000+
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I get asked every day my recommendation for a luxury watch for those not looking to collect but to have one single "do it all" luxury piece. A few months ago I shared my thoughts on why the Omega Seamaster makes a great first luxury watch. But that was on the assumption it would be the first of many in a collection or part of a journey in collecting. What if you just want one watch or only need to add one luxury piece to an existing collection? The DateJust from Rolex is my top suggestion. In my opinion it has the most to offer and so, today I share my 5 reasons why. From the modernity and rugged dependability of the contemporary 11620 or 116334, to the more affordable vintage charmers like the 16200, 16030 or even quartz versions like the 17013. In terms of history, versatility, value for money, quality, and just the sheer amount of options to choose from, it's hard to beat! I also share which DateJusts I have had the pleasure of owning and a brief history, including a very special guest, sir Winston Churchill himself.

Hi TGV Very good video, and very good Churchill imitation😂 I could add: "We will wear them on the beaches, we will wear them in the air and in the streets. We will never give up on our Rolex'es" But off course, in the light of WW2 that would be kind of distasteful, so I wouldn't do that😖 Oops... Another choice - if you would want to go a bit lower in terms of price - could be the Breitling Colt. Not quite as elegant for formal occasions but one could still see as acceptable with a suit. Keep up the good work👍

My first luxury watch was indeed a Rolex DateJust that belonged to my grandfather. I've inherited it days before he passed, when he removed it from his wrist and gave it to me when he was at the hospital. It's a 1974, 1601 Stainless Steel with white gold bezel, jubilee bracelet, and white Pie Pan dial, with yellow gold hands and stick markers.

I have been an avid watch collector for over 40 years. I discovered your channel not long after you started on KZread and just wanted to tell you are quite entertaining and intelligent. Keep up the excellent work.
hahahahah the imitation was even better than the one performed in The Crown tv show. Going back to the topic..I think I will still pick the GMT Master II, I feel is the luxury watch I've always dreamed of and I was lucky enough to receive it for my graduation back in 2012. Wonderful video, come sempre!

TGV big fan here! Thanks for all of your great vids and amazing info it is greatly appreciated! I recently bought my first Rolex, and it is a Datejust 41 stainless steel slate diamond dial on jubilee bracelet. I was really considering spending the extra bucks and going for a white gold day date but decided to take a smaller step in the right direction with the datejust and have to admit I am a super happy customer. What completes my confidence in my purchase is this video. Thanks my man keep up the great work!

Agree with your 5 points! I own a datejust and it will be a keeper/ future family piece for my son
I went back to the beginning just to hear your impression of Churchill again. Quite entertaining, TGV!
The way he said: "dosent that make you want to get a datejust" priceless makes me want to get a datejust lol
A marvellous intro and an interesting subject, Tristano. Thanks to for your "positive vibes" during the video. There's passion! (smile). Greetings from SPAIN!!!. Ciao, till your next video.

Love your passion for these watches. Great vid.
Great vid tgv love the Winston Churchill voice lol
Another great vid TGV, thank you. I agree with 99% of what you said. I bought my missus a brand new DateJust a few years ago and it has had to be repaired twice already. I also bought her a Seiko LE MM300, which she loves, and that hasn't missed a beat! In fact all my Seikos haven't missed a beat. Cheers
This channel (including you and content provided) are so full of love towards the subject of the video. I see a lot youtubers trying to talk about things subscriber would love constantly asking for likes and subscribe. You do not do anything of this just providing great, well prepared, interesting videos. I like that a lot! Keep up!

I've been a one watch guy for a long time now and I'm pretty happy with my Yachtmaster ref 16622, but if it wasn't this it would be a gorgeous black sub just like the one you own. These watches are ready for any task, mine goes to the office, traveling, gym, beach and basically anything life throws at me. But for 2k, Datejust is one heck a watch! Great vid as always!
Great great video TGV! And now for an affordable best 1 watch collection! In my opinion it's the SARB033, it accomplish the same as the date just for me... Cheers!
Tristano you made us alegro eith your report. My favorite watch is 16030 I bought around 15 years ago. I enjoy every time I wear it. It could only be replace by a day date 39mm in stainless steel 904L ( that model does not exist). Thanks again for the pasion you share in every report.
I agree with the versatility being hard to beat. Just got my first rolex a few weeks ago from my local AD. It's stainless smooth bezel silver dial oyster bracelet datejust 41(which some people like to confuse with the datejust 2. Proportions are completely different and it has a new movement with 72 hour power reserve). Anyway I love it!
Very informative video! Quality work mate, it would be a dream to own one of these in the future.
Another amazing video!! Like you have owned 2 datejusts, subs and a Daytona and always come back to the DJ, when Rolex started producing them with the hidden clasp on the jubilee it was a dream come true! Thanks for this great video!!
Hi TGV, great video as usual. If you need to choose one today, submariner or the new datejust 41?
Just watched this again 2 years later and enjoyed it as much as the first time. Makes me want to go buy a date just! Thanks for doing it my friend.
This is the crown jewel of my collection. I bought a fake one aged 15 in New York (long gone). Years later I wanted to get the real deal as a 30th birthday present to myself ... but at the time focus was on family and moving home. This year my wife surprised me with a 2017 white gold fluted bezel datejust for our 5th Yr wedding anniversary. A very special watch!! Keep up the great work - you're a class act, much like the datejust.
Excellent video ! I have been follow your channel for almost a year and since then i start saving for my first ever luxary time piece. After seeing this video my dilemma move a step ahead before I stuck between sub or batman but now date just. If you have you have to chose among those 3 which you go for ? Kind regards and best wishes.
Great video! What are your thoughts on the fluted bezel and diamonds on the face? Timeless?
I'm always impressed by the amount of effort you put into your intros. Bravo
Hello THE URBAN GENTRY, great video ! To you, should one go with the Stainless Steel or the two tones and champagne dial ? What's the best. Thanks
I enjoyed this video very much! I recently purchased a Datejust to replace the one I gave to my son a few years ago. They never seem to go out of style, it’s not difficult to get them serviced (so far), and they hold their value. I paid $1,100 for my first one in 1992, and $3,400 to replace my 16014.
Great review. Love it. Helped steel my decision :)
HAHAHA I love the Winston Voicevover!!! just brilliant :D
My first luxury watch was a Rolex Datejust - stainless steel, engine-turned bezel, on a jubilee bracelet. My father gave it to me during my sophomore year in college in 1985. (My father has a vast collection and influenced my passion for watches. His first luxury watch was a Rolex Oyster Perpetual given to him by his grandmother when he graduated med school.) My nephew will inherit the Oyster Perpetual; my middle daughter now has my Datejust; I bought my oldest daughter an Air-King with a blue dial; and my youngest daughter already has her eyes on a mid-size Datejust. "A crown for every achievement".
Hey TGV, you are one the very few great watch lovers I enjoy following. Actually your channel is the first youtube channel I subscribed. Great vids, great talks, very useful knowledge always. Many thanks for what you have doing so far. I have a question. What are you thinking about the newest datejust 41 fluted bezel with jubilee bracelet(especially the blue dial)? I really like that one and wondering if you have ever considered to make a vid about that model?
lol love the impression! Also love that watch...currently saving for it...possibly a 10 to 2 year old...
Omega A/T better depth rating and the teak dial version is a beauty.
Hi TGV great video once again, loved your winston churchill impersonation, made me chuckle lol. As for a one watch collection, i am going for the rolex explorer 1, the 2015 version, the last of the shorties, i love the simplicity of it, 39mm, just right for my 7 and a quarter inch wrist. I am 49yrs old and don't want anything too flash. I owned a oris aquis date not long back, nice watch but it was to big and blingy lol. I should have my explorer paid of in december plus it something to pass on to my son. I have a daughter aswell and i think i may save and purchase a datejust to pass on to her, i can't give one without the other lol. I think timepieces are a thing of beauty. Keep your shows coming TGV, they are very enjoyable, thank you.
Love the Churchill info. Also like the intro. What was the music you used for it?
I just love the different intros to the channel. Do you do them yourself? So professional

I agree. They are cinematic, classy and state of the art. I could happily watch more of them. The choice of music is really spot on also. TGV if its not too much trouble, would it be possible for you to mention the source of the music in the intro on occasion? Thanks, Simon Inglis.
The Rolex Datejust is my only watch because all my other watches were stolen during a break in and my home owners insurance won't pay nearly enough to replace the watches i lost :( but my Datejust just happened to be the watch i wore to work that day so its become very special to me and i never take it off now.

exactly! but it doesn't work like that. if you want full cost replacement you have to add it to your policy and that adds to the cost. its also a good idea to take lots of pictures of your watches and keep box and papers put up so you have proof you own the watch if it shows up in a pawnshop or some other store. police report + papers with serial numbers are a key thing to have. lucky i hve lots of pictures of my watches and some of the boxes and papers so if i ever see my watch in the future i will get it back. PS report the watches you own to your insurance provider and you can get full coverage on them for a few dollars a month
You have nailed it! The DateJust is the best "one only" luxury watch of all time. This watch just manages to work in every setting from the office to the beach to the golf course. The DateJust is my favorite.
Great video as always! I am saving to buy my first and probably only luxury piece. Datejust is surely an option and i love it,but I don't know if could be better a newer and more dressy watch instead of a 20 years old watch, having several non-luxury watches to wear in casual situations.
I have 2 Datejusts, the two toned and the 18k one. Love them both and would never give them up. The versatility is incredible because I can wear either one to a barbecue or a wedding.
I used to really like the Datejust 45 years ago, but no longer. Since my Military days I have fallen in love with military styled watches such as a Flieger, Kampfschwimmer and a General Field Watch.

Hey TGV, I'm turning 17 this month and I want to get my first automatic watch for myself. What do you think about the Steinhart Ocean 1? This is the one I'm currently thinking about getting. Thanks if you do answer, love your videos I want to be a collector too once I finish school.

Looking for one now, been checking out watchfinder, but still not sure whether to go new or 2 nd hand ?
I bought my wife a datejust. Couldn't determine which one to get her, so I decided to get her one made the year she was born. Still classy. Haven't told her the cost--she would be scared to wear it. Another pure class video.

I received my DJ2 as a birthday gift from my wife in London this year and am madly in love with it. Amazing versatile watch.
Wonderful. Many thanks.
Just got into watches as I've started a new job so I can spend money , just found your channel and I love your videos and dedication brother , I've ordered the Orient Bambino dress watch V2 , as my first watch in my hopeful soon collection after watching your video on it , once again I appreciate your work and effort into making these videos ,
lmao! when you started doing a weird voice, i died laughing. Instantly became my favorite youtuber hahahahaha
Yep man you hit the nail in the head with this one, I proudly own a vintage 1984 two tone 18K jubilee bracelet and I think is one of the most standard datejusts, now, apart form the Yuppie/American Psycho,/blingy connotation of the TT why is it that you say is one of the least collectibles? please enlighten me. Now my collection comprises besides the DJ, a Speedy MOTM and my third luxury piece that I hope to acquire is a Tudor Pelagos, pretty nice considering my finances and tatstes.
My first luxury watch: Submariner NoDate 14060M, the 2-liner... And loving it!!!! With a big cup of coffee I have to say I enjoyed your video as always! keep up the great work and keep the watches running
This is sort of off-topic but, Urban Gentry do you have any thoughts on the Brathwait watches? I'm contemplating on whether to get the Brathwait Classic Slim Melano top or Oreint Bambino gen 2, or even get both.
Hello, very nice reviews,. i would like to ask if you know anything about this brand Kronen & Sohne ? they do skeleton watches which looks cool but i don't know if i should trust them and i would be happy to hear from you. thanks
I bought my DJ after watching till date one of the best watch review ever made on you tube by TGV...the American pyscho. That DJ review was so eloquently produced that Rolex must have slipped you a fiver in the post. Another epic follow up and I always remember you when people admire my DJ as you brought this very versatile watch to my attention. I wear it with so much passion.
Came back to this video as I've been wearing my DJ this week (as you might have seen on Snupps).. Last night I shook our bed clothes, forgetting my watch was laying on the bed.. It flew 10 feet across the room, hit a door and landed hard.. Heart sank, then I realized it a Datajust.. Not a scratch on it and no performance issues at all 24 hours later.. ROBUST is right, TGV !
I was trying to decide between the Explorer and the DJ, now I’ll get the DJ, thank you!!!
Great video and recommendation. I got the Explorer as my keeper, I however use date alot at work and is the one thing I miss, I wouldn't want the date complication on the Explorer as I adore the design history, beauty, simplicity and symmetry. I am thus now looking for a date watch to join the Explorer, tried JLC Mst Ctl Date, didnt feel right, so still looking. I thus tend to agree that the DateJust is a massive contender for the one watch collection.
I’m watching this of course for the Rolex Datejust. However I love seeing your Sinn 104 in your intro. I bought mine partially because of your video about it. Love y 104 and I agree it is very close to the perfect all around watch.
I love the two-tone Oysterquartz! I only wish they would have made an automatic with that same case and bracelet. There is a link to Geta.. He designed the first Rolex Quartz watch: the reference 5100 A. K. A. “The Texan”! The very early Rolex Viceroy and Imperial Oyster case designs are clearly are the archetypes of the Oysterquartz case, and it could even be argued that Gerald Genta may have used these early Rolex designs as the styling inspiration for the AP Royal Oak. Thanks for another great video!
Pure Class Churchill!!!! Excellent Video Sir!! Imagine just one High End watch.. & maybe a beater.. Another Great Episode from the urban Gentry!! BMJ ENGLAND
Lol! Love the Chruchill voice imitation. That was great! Love my Datejust 41mm. Best classic Rolex watch aside for the Submariner.
Hey TGV I'm getting my first rolex!!! Thinking about the Datejust 41 with blue diamond dial!!! Is it a good investment buying it new from a rolex store or should I search for an pre owned?? Thanks
Great video as ever TGV. I own a SS Datejust with a grey tapestry dial fitted with a jubilee bracelet. Purchased my watch new in 1993 from Goldsmiths jewellers in Nottingham, UK. Completely agree with your comment saying that high end watches are affordable if save hard & long enough. I set my heart on owning a Rolex and for me the 36mm Datejust fits the bill perfectly. I intend to hand this watch on to one of my godchildren when I pass on. Finally...”Never in the field of human conflict”....Oops, just slipped into Churchill mode for a bit!
Hey TGV! I died when you read that letter 🤣🤣🤣
I've owned/worn several Rolex Steel-Sport-Stunners for 40 years and am always amazed people frenzy around them......when the Date-Just is the perfect Watch, and AVAILABLE....
I purchased a Rolex Oysterdate 6066 a 'poor' mans datejust. Also a great alternative, i payed 800£ for it.
With so many to choose from there's something out there for everyone. Great story.
Great video Tristano! The new Datejust 41 with Dark Rodium Dial and Jubilee bracelet is at the top of my current obsession list for 2018. Now if I can only force my self stick to my savings plan and not purchase any new watches until I have the requisite amount of cash squirreled away it will be mine!
I think for an 'only luxury watch', you're best staying with Rolex or Omega. They have the brand recognition, and good service support. Most Rolexes are a good only watch, especially the Explorer I, Sub, Oyster Perpetual, Datejust, and Daytona. From Omega, you'd be looking at the Seamaster 300, Aqua Terra, Globemaster, or Speedmaster (any of them, really).

EDIT: I am referring to the 9:18 oysterquartz!
Great impression love it!
I 100% agree, the datejust is the ideal watch. I do have one reference 116234 with silver dial, but i also have a gmt pepsi and a two line submariner and even though my sport Rolex watches are awesome, my datejust gives me a completely different feel when i wear it. Its dressy enough to make you feel sophisticated but rugged enough to wear every where. I highly recommend it especially in the 36mm size.
AWESOME!!!! I will watch this at least once per day, to make it done!!! :-D
I am getting a Rolex Datejust SS 16220, white dial, Roman numerals, engine-turned bezel and jubilee bracelet, box, papers and original purchase receipt all in mint condition. I viewed the watch and they way the bracelet was the perfect size and slipped onto the wrist to make such a comfortable fit. It won me over. I have not really been a Rolex fan preferring Omega and JLC but this watch had me hooked.
I love the Churchill narration TGV. Nicely done. Though I must disagree with the Rolex choice . With the history regarding Churchill I can easily see on his wrist a minute repeater several choices , such a classy watch for a classy man. I,m going with Vacheron Constatin. Good video Sir. Cheers.
Your Churchill impression was spot on!!!!

I really enjoyed this one... great advice -- wish I could own that gorgeous blue dial w/ roman numerals. Oh well... maybe in my next lifetime... the dreaming's the fun part. Fantastic enthusiasm... great content -- us avg folks dig the in-depth glimpse of something we'll likely never own ourselves.
Great video. I like the Datejusts from the 1960s. They look so astheticly perfect.:)
I would nominate the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, but feel it is too similar (essentially a no-date Datejust, right?). Instead, I choose the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra in 38.5mm size. Just as versatile and diverse in design, and pulls from the Seamaster heritage which is just as storied as the Rolex OP heritage.
Hi UTG. Thank you for spending time making all these exciting videos. If I was in the situation that I had to choose 1 clock? I would probably choose Rolex oyster perpetual blue Explorer dial. Because this is in my obtic the coolest under the radar watch! And most comfortable for everyday use.
Love the datejust! My dad has one with the blue face & jubilee bracelet. I’m obsessed. I’d like to start saving for one to match. Definitely a grail watch for me!
Wonderful video and Churchill imitation! I'd love to know your thoughts on my recent watch purchase, Seiko SRP772! I love it but I'd love to know your thoughts
Can you do a review of the seiko sse091, I haven't seen any videos about it.
Hey TGV ! Big fan I would absolutely agree. I got a datejust 16233 two tone for around 4k. The biggest purchase I ever made for the biggest smile to ever lay my face. I am thinking about an omega speedmaster for my next one !
TGV, Was that you doing Churchill? EXCELLENT! I was not a Rolex fan when I first found this channel. I felt it was snobbish and overrated. Today, I am fascinated by the brand. Many are calling for innovation for the lines. For me, its what brings a distinction to the brand. My one luxury watch choice would probably be a Rolex Day Date in white gold. I enjoyed this topic. Ciao!
