If you must hold a lav mic, at least do this...

I'm all for trying new things and breaking out of the norm. And in the audio world, seeing creators hold lavalier microphones is just that. Dare I say a new and innovative way people are capturing audio.

At least it sounded good with you holding it- there have been a few terrible mic reviews where they held the mic right in front of their mouth, so of course it was plosive city for them! Thanks for showing how to do it properly.

Every tip on holding a LAV... extremely noteworthy, thank you. But I see no good reason to hold one. The mic I see so many KZreadrs holding is the DJI Wireless transmitter that also records. But usually they are discussing the mic so that makes sense. My pet peeve with many content providers when they are reviewing a product is how they have to hold the device and mindlessly keep turning it in their hands and, worse, shake it at you as they are talking with their hands. Arggh. Put it down so I can look at it. Hmm, how did I get off topic there? 😕🤐Guess I better go now. 😁😁

It would nice for us visual learners at least at the end to see your tips on a white board ( or similar) so we can review them. Thanks. 😀

I find that watching a video with the talent holding a lavaliere very annoying and so incredibly awkward, that I lose any/all interest in the topic being discussed. Lavalieres designed purpose is to be discreet while allowing freedom of movement of your body and, most importantly, the use of both of your hands. If you MUST hold a mic (for on air appearance or emficis) grab something like an SM58 stage mic. But, hey, maybe I'm just old fashioned and practical. Thanks Wayne, you offered some very reasonable help and tips for, what I think , is very unreasonable practice.

It's funny because things like this really demonstrate the influence social media platforms actually have. From things like the huge sales of Blue Yetis then SM7bs to holding Lav mics, YT has a way of normalizing the unconventional. Hmmm, maybe I'll have to devise a new ridiculous audio trend to be adopted by the masses... lol!

What would be a good mic to use with the dji mic for capturing exhaust audio. Its in the tail of my bike and even with the gain set to -12 it clips audio.
