With my Mustang, the only time I need to modify anything is when the parts are wearing and tearing from brakes to replacing an old catalytic converter, e.t.c... Just the basic necessities. On the issue of fuel in modern fuel injected cars the only thing you can change easily to gain a little power is to run clear gas IE no alcohol in it can help. To running e85 and get more power you need bigger injectors, a tune and probably bigger or a second fuel pump because it takes a lot more volume of fuel.

    Wow, I don't know how to respond. First. I've been racing for over 40 yrs. I run my own shop and do 100% of my builds and know what works and what doesn't. Next, a lot of high school kids don't have money to spend and do things right unless they have rich parents and spoilt. Life is about trial and error, and that's what test and tune nights are all about. So telling people not to do things, they aren't doing any of that. Kids don't have $100k to build a car perfect from the start. I've ran plenty of stock cars on both turbos and nitrous and had little problems after I found the weak points. Race fuel will help keep your engine alive when you add a turbo with high boost. If you just get told what to do and never test and try for yourself, you never learn anything. I don't want my kids to put slicks on and hook up on the street, thinking they are in full control. I want them to spin to learn to control the car and lean into controlling the speed. People think everyone needs to be politically correct, and everything will be fine. Nope, not at all. I don't want some scientists to tell me something won't work because he never tried it and was always told it won't work. I wouldn't be where I am today if I listened to what people told me not to do. Now those people call me to fix their problems. Yes, some of the things you don't want to do. But not all are beneficial. Some good points for some, but not for others.

    Don't throw on certain mods without a retune. So true. I bought my 2018 Mustang GT that was already modded with a JLT cold air intake, among other mods, and although it ran ok the check engine light was on and it was throwing engine codes. I did some research and realized the prior owner likely didn't retune the car so I bought a Bama RevTech tuner and did a 93 octane race tune based on what mods I had. That cleared up the codes and of course opened up the performance potential from the factory tune. It's been running like a 500 hp beast ever since.

    See it often about the Race Gas/Premium in a stock car. Actually, MotorTrend made an EXCELLENT video comparing different grades of gasoline and race gas in an engine and showed the horsepower differences. It was all the same because the car wasn't turbo/super charged. If you cannot make use of a fuels ability to avoid Pre-Detonation then using a higher octane fuel doesn't do anything for you.

    If a muffler adds back pressure it's hurting power. There is never a performance gain with back pressure and I hope people, especially professionals, stop saying that. If the muffler flows as much as a straight pipe then it would not add back pressure. What might be the case is that deleting the muffler hurt velocity and therefore hurt power. Even though that's rarely the case. Also turbo engines most certainly don't want any restrictions in the exhaust. Blanket statements make the world a bad place

If you dont have the money to lower your car/ truck and are willing to give up the ride comfort for what you want, then heat or cut you springs be a man. Not true back pressure creates suction which helps exhaust gases escape faster. Theres a sweet spot for each engine when it comes to diameter of the pipes. Too big and there is no suction at all and too small there is too much restriction.

  • @TheDuckTeamYT

    @TheDuckTeamYT

    Жыл бұрын

    @@luismelchor744 Yes the whole point is to maximize the velocity of the exhaust gases. And you are right that back pressure creates velocity. If you have air escaping in a wide pipe the pressure difference between the gases in the pipe and outside in the atmosphere will be smaller and thus the air won’t escape as fast and might actually cause some exhaust gases to travel back (newtons third law). Generally speaking to maximize velocity you want to minimize pipe size changes in your exhaust and smooth out turns. Sharp turns are really bad and are going to rob you of power. Catalytic converters too cause back pressure, yet the only benefit of them is environmental, it don’t help in any way with improving engine efficiency. This is the main reason why saying back pressure is good is wrong is because it’s a misunderstanding of this velocity concept. Yes back pressure can help increase velocity but it can also do the opposite in cases like tight turns in pipes ect.

    Back pressure and power do NOT go in the same sentence… this has never been proven EVER Unleaded Race gas DOES NOT BURN SLOWER… the octane rating is the fuels resistance to “pressure ignition” or “pre ignition” even when switching from 93 to e85 your timing tables DO NOT CHANGE unless your engine is spark limited by boost or higher compression ratios, but thats because of the octane not the flame speed!

    E85 air fuel ratio is different though than gasoline , 9.7 to1 so fuel maps are different & timing should be too

    @@hieronymus..bosch8532 absolutely not true. The motor if not knock limited will make the most power at the same timing whether it's on 87 octane or Ethanol or methanol. Also if you tuned to 13:1 on pump gas and then drain and refill with E85 you would then see it run lean and tune it right back to 13:1.

    @@hieronymus..bosch8532 oh my god alcohol does not"like" more timing. You are right that the "tune" is dramatically different. It takes 30 to 35% more fuel than gasoline. That's it. Unless you didn't set the timing right the first time, changing the timing on alcohol will yield zero results. Any time on the Dyno would show you that.

    Im no expert in exhaust, but I still find it odd that you have open headers on cars and aircraft (think a P51 Mustang etc). That was for maximum peak rpm power.There is never any mention of backpressure requirements for those applications. I cant find a decent example, or a study that really dives into this. Any good places to start? Thanks. Good tips indeed, just this point is very muddied by people that do a thing, and then want to justify said thing. I still like to learn new aspects, no matter how much I may know in one area etc.

    I said back pressure but what I was trying to explain was scavenging and I used the wrong terminology. There are absolutely cases like turbo cars where running wide open is beneficial, my point in the video was not to remove the mufflers just to make your car loud.

    @@cjponyparts Got it. Happens to me too when I switch terms, reverting to the one I used longer, even if less correct. I admit that exhaust has been my weakest area, where the resonances due to length of pipes always throw me off. So, if I ever design a car...Ill just have eight straight pipes going to some basic muffler then out the back like a B52 lol
